  • In this live demo you will see how I process an oil painting to end up with a light filled and loose impressionist painting. Painting trees and light is such a pleasure because of the play between light and dark colors. You can have fun adding lots of juicy paint! See for yourself and enjoy this demo with me.
    If you want to watch more lessons on painting trees and light then check out my course called Painting Trees and Light in Oils. It has plenty of long form painting lessons that will cover this topic in great detail. Learn more here: social.malcolmdewey.com/Trees...

    So glad you did give everything up to do this. What an excellent teacher with a gentle , humorous and generous style. I love the split screens and sharing of colour choices and painting decisions. Not seen anyone else doing this. You are helping me! Reminds me of when my son went plant based. I found Bosh on Instagram and they shared so much quality content, including written recipes on Insta which I printed off and links to their fab website. I became a fan and now buy and gift their books and buy their products and follow and support them. Same now with you! Thank you for all you have given Malcolm. Blessings

    Another great video! Thank you so much Malcolm! I am so excited to try this outside next week (I’m in the U.S.). I tend to smooth the heck out of every brushstroke so I really needed to see how you build the elements through splotches of color. You are very interesting to watch paint. Thank you so much for this painting. I always learn so much from you. I was particularly interested how you would approach the dappled light on the road and was happily surprised that you merely hint at it with a few simple gestures whereas I have been trying to recreate every little shape and nuance - with such disappointing results as you can imagine. Also, as ever, your references seem completely bland with no centre of interest and then - ta-dah - you make it the most interesting, colourful, beautiful painting one could ever hope for. Amazing!!

    fun-want those yellow dots in the right foreground shadows to connect or something overall fun paint. handling

  • @PrincessAloeVera
    @PrincessAloeVera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    "Yellow is the happy color". Yes it is. I love that lemon yellow and white color! That is what artists use for highlight sunlight and to me that is a cool color. So I see light as cool when i paint.

    • @MalcolmDewey
      @MalcolmDewey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But cool compared to what other color?

    • @PrincessAloeVera
      @PrincessAloeVera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MalcolmDewey Exactly. Cool compared to other warmer yellows and I would keep using cool reds and yellows and blues for light and then warmer yellows reds and blues in PURE shadow but almost all shadow is receiving bounced light. It's just that I see the bounced pure light as cool compared to the colors in PURE shade. I am finding that lots of artists are doing and teaching lots of ways to show light and shade and it has been confusing me. So now I think it's just the way some people see cool and warm. It must be different for different eyes, literally. Most shadow has some light reflecting into it so that may be part of the confusion. But if you think of the rainblow colors.. yellows reds and blues etc.. I would see them as cool versions of those primaries so that is why i think of light as cool. Basically I think I'm just going to mostly try to paint what I see. It's fascinating to try and create light, so I would also say whatever works is good. If it looks right then it is right. lol. I suppose!

    • @PrincessAloeVera
      @PrincessAloeVera 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      so to further answer.. that highlight yellow would be cooler than any other yellow being made of lemon and white... but also it would be warmer than any cool red or blue too. But again, a cool yellow would be cooler than a warm red or warm blue! As you know every color has a warmer and a cooler version. So I'm saying it's cool compared to everything on my palette except for pure white and except for other cool reds and cool blues mixed with a lot of white..I paint a bright highlight with lemon/white, Q.rose or magenta/white and thalo blue or green/white or cobalt turquois/white.. mostly white but sneaking all the rainbow colors into it.. and atmosphere the same.. all colors of the rainbow is far distant light colors with a lot of whtie. Again to me I see that as all the stuff in the air bouncing light.. more distance gets cooler, to me, because there is more light between here and there.. it makes sense to me..

      You could for example turn this into an autumn scene with red and orange colors instead of greens and lemon yellows. Change the palette to warm and cool reds like cad red light and alizarin, deep yellows, burnt sienna and ultramarine. The most important thing is to keep the values the same. Relace the colors with these warm hues while keeping values the same and the scene changes.
