    Thanks Darren! Really valuable information for me. I am currently using the 500ml soft flasks and Salomon vest for marathon training. It's nice to know about the options out there. Much appreciated!

    Heya Darren! Thanks for this video! I was looking into soft flasks for travel as they collapse but I had a few reservations, one you answered in your video, regarding filtering options. The others were 1) how does one “clean and dry”’ for storage, particularly if electrolytes were used, 2) the durability of the flask compared to day a Nalgene water bottle (my current go to for travel and car camping, but doesn’t have the water filtering possibilities in a single drinking container).
    Happy New Year!

      Hi Amy, Thanks for watching and Happy New Year. 1) That is a great question, and after using a number of soft flask I usually rinse with some warm soapy water and bottle brush, then let it dry in a bowl overnight. I usually store my soft flasks and caps in a zip lock bag and leave it open until I am pretty sure they are dry. Here is a video I made in maintaining my water filter with a similar cleaning for soft flasks. th-cam.com/video/Ugoi57jU31g/w-d-xo.html 2) Durability wise a Nalgene bottle is going to be more durable than a soft flask, but I wouldn't be afraid of it leaking or getting puncture wounds if you take care of them. I have been using the same hydrapak soft flask with straw for about 5 years now and the only wear and tear I noticed was a little discoloration of the plastic over time depending on what type of hydration mix you use. I use Nuun tablets and ScratchLabs hydration powder that work pretty well for me.

    Such a great and helpful video ! Thank you. I just wanted to double check that the befree filter fits all the hydrapak and the aonijie bottles from the video as well ?

      Hello Miaa, Yes, The Katadyne Befree filter does fit all the Hydrapak and Aonijie soft flasks. Just make sure that the soft flasks have the 42 mm threading.

    Should the filter be dried after the trip to maintain its durability?

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @robertozzz777 Yes, after your trip air dry and store in an open zip lock bag. I try not to keep it screwed onto the soft flask for storage to prevent mold and mildew. Thanks

    Are you still using the aonijie flasks? I ran into the same scenario as you: bought a vest without flasks. Thanks

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I carry one aonijie soft flask 500ml with the lock system and one Salomon XA filter 500 ml soft flask. Happy Holidays

      @@DarrenYee probably last question: do you find the straws useful or is it more gimmicky? I’ve read that most people just lift the vest to drink from the soft flasks as opposed to straws hitting your face

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @c2thew I actually like the straw. I bought a 600 ml speed flask with straw. Same as you I didn't like the straw waving around in front of my face so. I made a straw tether out of shock cord and put it on all my packs. That's a great idea for a video. Thanks

    Does Aonijie have the same mouth diameter with Salomon? Is it also 42mm?

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes Aonijie, Solomon, and hyropak have the same 42mm mouth opening. But the threading on some of the caps might not line up exactly and you may experience some leaking.

    Does the water in the flask stay cold?

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello, These water flasks are not insulated. So they only stay cold for a little while unless you put ice in them. I haven't found a good insulated soft flask yet. If you do put ice in them, the soft flasks will form a thin layer of condensation on the outside and may get your gear a little wet.

    How do I fix a leak in my solf flask 🙏

    • @DarrenYee
      @DarrenYee  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ray, I haven't had to try and fix a leak in a soft flask before. It maybe a defect and I would try and return it, Other that that maybe try some super glue, tape, or sealant if your on the trail. I figure that if it springs a leak it might be time to replace, plus it is pretty reasonable to get a new one. Thanks for watching.
