  • The Precision Bass was a truly revolutionary instrument when it was released in 1951. As music evolves, our instruments change in lockstep; the end result is today’s version, the American Professional Precision Bass. Follow along with Fender Signature Artist Sean Hurley (John Mayer, Ringo Starr, Alanis Morissette, Vertical Horizon) as he tours the historic instrument’s newest iteration.
Developed by longtime bass pickup master Michael Bump, the brand new V-Mod split-coil Precision Bass pickup uses a carefully selected blend of alnico magnet types for balanced tone. The “golden” ’63 P Bass neck profile nestles perfectly in the player’s hand, while the narrow-tall frets provide a familiar playing feel and perfect intonation.

Sean Hurley is a such a class player, one of my all time favourites. It'd be good to hear him play this instrument with flats on it (or older rounds), where my hunch is where its sound would really shine.

I own a professional V precision.this is an amazing precision bass.it isn't as ganky as a traditional P; it has a clarity that lends itself well to the B string.it sounds somewhere between a J and a P.a very unique tone and useable for everything.the B string is surprisingly excellent.I own four precisions and this one was well thought out.10/10.

Bought this bass, in Olympic White, last week. I've put on a set of D'Addario NYXL 45100 roundwounds and it sounds a*m*a*z*i*n*g! I was somewhat skeptical about the V-Mod pickup but it has really nailed a fresh modern tone, which is exactly what I was looking for. Can't stop slapping it!

listen to a lot of isolated bass tracks. Acoustically, more buzz than you'd think. But to me this doesn't have a lot of buzz, just grit which adds to the tone.

In my 37 years of playing, and 32 years as a studio/gigging bassist, I've never been much of a P-Bass kinda guy. I've always been a dyed-in-the-wool Jazz Bass kind of guy. And, if I do play a P-Bass, I really like the Precision pickup REVERSED, with the E & A string pickup CLOSER to the bridge, and the D & G string pickup CLOSER to the fingerboard. I just think it produces a much better tone, to MY EAR, for MY PLAYING STYLE, at least. Surly, the Fender Custom Shop would build a bass with a reversed P pickup.

P bass or quit playing lol for me (music is all opinion based) the active jazz or the pj basses (I've played PJ's for 6 years) are just super high driven and I'm way more into the low mids and getting a great low clean. The jazz pickups are amazing if that's what you are looking for, but I love the classic sound that I can modulate
with pedals if need be rather that a bright sound that I'm fighting with to get warm and low.
