The original written version of this explained that the goggles failed to work because, in the nanoseconds before the AI recognized and blocked the view of 096's face, an unmodified image would pass along to the viewer's eyes without the viewer even being conscious of it. That was still enough to trigger 096, though.

@@danielmartinez2637Note quite. 096 only kills anyone who has viewed its face. It has an intrinsic knowledge of where it’s target is and how to get there and no way to stop it has yet been found after someone has viewed its face. Only if someone views it’s face will it attack said person. He was killed because the goggles were ineffective.

I don't know if you caught it, but the whole premise of this movie is that Investigator Arlea (mean lady) is attempting to prove that the doctor orchestrated the whole breach. He sent that photograph to the farmhouse in the mountains (where he said he was researching btw) to make sure 096 broke out, colluding with Alexei, all because he wants to make sure he is authorised to kill it. The doctor literally set 096 on those 70 odd people for his own selfish reasons, and the 'mean' inspector is trying to coax a confession out of him, which isn't apparent until the end. That's why they don't mind terminating Alexei and the doctor, they're already guilty of pretty much unleashing a weapon of mass destruction on a civilian population, and the only reason they're sticking around is because they know more about 096 than anyone else.
While 096 is one of the original monsters and a classic, it does harken back to a time when the Foundation was written to terminate people all the time for no good reason, just for the sake of making them seem cold and uncaring. The writing has evolved and moved on from them being so trigger happy these days.
Thanks for explaining this more to us 🙂 we did catch most of that and feel like they focused too much on the twist instead of SCP 096 which we really the best part of this. Such a fascinating SCP and kind of a sad one as well 😢🤗

The SCP foundation is supposed to be "cold not cruel" meaning they may seem harsh in situations but it's what they must do so they don't grow attached or things like that, and if they do cruel things, it could cause anomalies to become worse than they already are.
SCP-096 is also nearly indestructible, most known methods of damage towards it either do nothing or leave it with some marks or partially damaged limbs, seeing it's face anywhere and anyhow will cause you death no matter where you are located, it will always destroy anything in it's path and find any way to get to you even if you are under water or on the other side of the world, the only theory that would prevent you from dying is staying in space, as it can't fly but you'd have to come down eventually and that's game over.
SCP-096 I think is only scared of 2 SCP's in the foundation which is SCP-173 and SCP-682.
I'm not 100% sure on these facts though so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

The reason the researcher in this video wants to destroy 096 is he is deathly afraid of the chain reaction that 096 can cause. Yes if one person sees his face, just them dies. but what if someone sees it and records it, uploading it to the internet before they're killed too? 096 is dangerous solely because of our inherent curiosity. Our need to understand and recognize that which might be dangerous.
one of the reasons you stated is from experience. Once a chair that would teleport whenever someone needed to sit was set for destruction as it teleported itself into the first agent that tried capturing it. They could not contain it in any way and even if it was not attacking anyone in its own cycle, after they threw that chair into a woodshipper, it started teleporting its fragements inside of everybody in the facility it would come into contact with.. Also the further away the target that sees his face is the faster 096 will be. It can dislocate its jaw like a snake its skin is putrid and white like a corpse. Despite it looking malnurished it is far stronger than normal flesh. Its arms are longer than they should at 1.5meters long. Once enouugh firepower hits 096 it will shred his flesh but leave its bones intact and as been reported to slaughter MTF while missing most of its body without a single care.
@@gotskilsudont2149 but they did manage to contain it, making it's containment chamber a calm environment. Heck it initially teleported to them after the woodchipper because it sensed it'd be safer with the Foundation. he GOC were to blame for it's shredding.
Shy Guy is an iconic SCP in the foundation but he's still a massive mystery. I believe 096 is noted to not have any higher brain functions and isn't considered sapient. Is it right to feel sympathetic towards our favourite lanky white boy? Idk. What I do know is that it's better he's in containment than out of it
True he’s dangerous. But at the same time, he doesn’t seem to be malicious and wanting to hurt people. Doesn’t mean 096 should be set free though we still feel kinda bad for it 😢

@@SirBroadcast even if it was 4 pixels it's still his face but what the goggles do is just black it out entirely but something went wrong and they just saw a little tiny bit of it's face through the goggles and then boom you know the rest
if i remember correctly, the whole film is based on the actual incident report on the official scp096 page. the incident report was vague, it didnt have much info to go on, as "high importance" informations are classified in the form of " [REDACTED] ". so this film is the result of some creative minds taking that small bit of info, and making it into this cinematic

SCP 096 is a classic SCP because it shows how the SCP Foundations (Secure, Contain, Protect) are written as such. Stick 096 in a room and leave them there and he's fine. He murder's anyone who see's his face or see's a photo of his face but otherwise he's going to sit in his room and be fine. A very dangerous creature but one you can safely keep contained by following a few basic rules. This method works why change it is the Foundation's guiding principle. Trying to kill them sometimes works and sometimes you end up with something like SCP-1609.

It *was* a non-malicious entity, however, an organization known as the Global Occult Coalition changed that. The Coalition's main rule is to destroy any anomaly, unlike the SCP foundation's rule of securing. SCP-1609 was captured by the Coalition and was improperly destroyed. The person in charge of the destruction used a wood chipper instead of an incinerator. Now, the sentient chair has instead turned into a sentient pile of splinters, nails, and leather shreds that kills anybody near it that talks about or resembles any type of Coalition or SCP staff (also including but not limited to the topics of destruction, weapons, cruelty, yelling, and cold dispositions.).
TL;DR What was a sentient and benevolent chair but is now a sentient pile of scraps that has PTSD and kills you if you trigger it.
@@acid4546 Actually, the GOC's goal is to terminate lethal anomalies and the ones that threatens their Concealment of the paranormal mission this is stated in their Excerpts from PHYSICS Division Field Manual 1: Operative's Handbook
and SCP-1609 or KTE-0937-Velveteen in the GOC casefiles has more story than it wanting to be helpful
History: Initially one of a set of six matching objects originally constructed by KTE-7201-Pygmalion ("The Carpenter") as a gift to [IDENTITY REDACTED]. Classified a Second Mission threat in ████. Creator, customer, and artifacts were all liquidated by a GOC Field Operator cell. All other objects were successfully incinerated: KTE-0937-Velveteen was disposed of by maceration after a mechanical failure in the incinerator device. Artifact proceeded to escape through teleportation, and has since been responsible for the deaths of several agents. Believed to currently be in the possession of The Foundation.

I was blown away by how high quality this film is. Makes me want a full length feature film even more.
There was a movie in development called SCP: containment breach run. It was announced a few years after the game came out but went silent about 4 years ago and wasn't heard from again. Presumably cancelled but I believe the director insists its not
It would be cool to see a full length feature film on this with a high enough budget to do it justice. A very interesting concept here and surprised someone like Blumhouse hasn’t done it yet. 🙂🤔
@@DefinitelyNotDefinitive2 the reason a feature film won't happen is because of copyright. SCP comes under creative commons meaning the entire community has ownership as opposed to one person. Legally speaking a film studio wouldn't be able to make money from it fairly. Kinda like what happened with the slenderman movie where Sony "purchased" the rights from his creator even though everything that the character is came from what the community attributed.
The scramble gear was created for the mtf to avoid looking at his face but it doesn’t work.

It should be noted that SCP-096 does not react to sketches of its face and only reacts to exact displays such as direct sight or photographs. Refer to Document #096-1 for details regarding testing to confirm this

Scp 096 designated “The Shy Guy” is an unique anomaly, though the effect into its destruction is priority number one, understanding it is still up for attention for most. Because if there was a way to find out it’s cause of pain and suffering, maybe there would be a way to turn it into a more calm more tamed creature for better research and understanding of its abilities and set of origin. Yet seeing how the way it’s been treated and the 05’s see it more as a threat than an opportunity, it is far from it.

It’s not the highest the highest is actually the Director. Only one man that’s supposedly been around since the 1800s, the O-5 are anomaly’s themselves and so is the director.

Incase you don't know, the description of SCP-096 "The Shy Guy" on the wiki is as follows:
"SCP-096 is a humanoid creature measuring approximately 2.38 meters in height. Subject shows very little muscle mass, with preliminary analysis of body mass suggesting mild malnutrition. Arms are grossly out of proportion with the rest of the subject's body, with an approximate length of 1.5 meters each. Skin is mostly devoid of pigmentation, with no sign of any body hair.
SCP-096's jaw can open to four (4) times the norm of an average human. Other facial features remain similar to an average human, with the exception of the eyes, which are also devoid of pigmentation. It is not yet known whether SCP-096 is blind or not. It shows no signs of any higher brain functions, and is not considered to be sapient.
SCP-096 is normally extremely docile, with pressure sensors inside its cell indicating it spends most of the day pacing by the eastern wall. However, when someone views SCP-096's face, whether it be directly, via video recording, or even a photograph, it will enter a stage of considerable emotional distress. SCP-096 will cover its face with its hands and begin screaming, crying, and babbling incoherently. Awesome video! I learned about the origin of SCP 096. That it was once human but it turned into what is now when he climbed Mount Everest and met SCP 1529 aka The King Of The Mountain.
In SCP-5000 where the SCP foundation becomes "evil" and declares war on humanity they circulate pictures of SCP-096 face on the internet leading to mass casualties.

I wonder how they even thought it would work? Obviously no technology is as fast as real time.
And why they risked all those MTFs with these goggles they haven’t even tested out, instead of going with the safe option which is looking down and bagging Shy.
I know this wouldn’t be an option seeing how the foundation works and shit, but letting Shy back to his home in the mountains would be the safest option. He would keep to himself and there would be the minimal amount of people visiting. But, I know they can’t just keep dangerous anomalies out there, since the whole point of the foundation is researching and containing the strange and unusual. Though I somehow feel bad for Shy, seeing as it’s so easy to avoid death if you respect him. There wouldn’t even have been a breach hadn’t it been for Dan and Oleksei.

Those bodies shouldn't have been left, 096 leaves almost no evidence when it was seen somewhere.
The reason 096 is crying all the time is because his face is so hideous and it understands this. That's also why he doesn't want anyone to see his face, because anyone who does see it, makes 096 furious and homicidal, going out and killing the one who saw him, so there would be no witnesses.
Also, I know it seems that the lady interviewer is cold-hearted and the doctor she's interviewing is sympathetic, but it's only until the end of the video that you find out it's the exact opposite of that. The reason she seems to cold to the doctor is because she knows he masterminded 096's escape from containment. He had to remove himself from the situation, so went on a business trip to the mountains for an excavation for live samples of the geology, so he wouldn't be implicated, or so he thought. He also seemed like he was sympathetic to the situation of 096 killing people, but he's faking it to throw people off the scent, plus it seems that there are times during the interview where he's very sinister and nervous about being caught. He also keeps repeating himself. "We need to kill it," and "they were supposed to work", also "it's not if but when." This solidifies his lying strategy, so he doesn't have to think very hard about what to say to cover his butt. But it didn't work. First, he wasn't there when it broke out, he knew the picture immediately when he saw it, and his coworker, who they said was dead but wasn't, ratted him out.

I saw a theory/deep dive origin story from one of the bigger SCP fan theory youtubers years ago that actually explains the creation of Shy Guy and why he hides his face. To avoid too many spoilers it basically comes down to Shy Guy once being a normal human, but through a chance encounter with another SCP on or near the mountain range where he was photographed, Shy Guy eventually became what he is now. Just look up Origin of Shy Guy theory or something like that and you should find it. I'll edit this to include the link to the video I'm referring to when I find it again.

"SCP-096, also known as the Shy Guy, is a major antagonist in the SCP Foundation universe. It is a Euclid-class humanoid contained by the Foundation, who will know if someone looked at its face and relentlessly pursue that individual until violently murdering them while screaming."
Fun fact: SCP 096 is ranked to be the scariest SCP out there, to myself, I can see why, compared to most SCPs I've seen and heard of I find 096 the be one of if not, the most interesting SCP out there, and this is how fast he is 8,182.258064516129 km per hour, 35 km/h or more is how fast he runs, and what happens if you look at his face is in-game. When docile, SCP-096 will passively approach and follow the player. If the player ever views SCP-096's face, it will enter an agitated state and will begin to cover its face and panic. Shortly after, it will start chasing the player down to kill them, basically if one person looks directly at its face, making eye contact, it will quickly start to get up and start to act and go crazy then after like seconds or minutes later (seconds to be exact), it will then begin to run and charge at you and ONLY at you, or if anyone else get in its way (or looks) at him as well, but mainly what I've known for is that it will once charge at its only victim, no matter where the victim is, even plus, legend has it that if you are provided an image or some short OF SCP 096, it will still get triggered and 096 will know who exactly looked at him, so basically all you can do around 096 is pray to God you'll survive, but odds are slim.
If they shoot it, it wouldn't matter 096 is basically unkillable. Hence the scene with the Warthog trying to dab on it.

It has been theorized that 096 actually does not want to kill as it cries when it has killed and they used SCP 093 the mirror of desire and it's deepest desire was to just be invisible.
Haven’t these people know scp 096 is just an human that you don’t want to get in front of him because when you do it he always runs fast as you can think so maybe if he really don’t have a face to shown he probably don’t exist

So I guess the scramble googles were useless on moving targets because the ai had to rescramble the face but it worked on still images. Imma say that's a genius plot twist for a short film because it is a realistic problem with ai face recognition and filters

Tau-1 at the time should've been pointing their guns outwards instead of 096 to see if anyone accidentally come across the situation while also not looking at 096 but I know it's just the lore
They left out some details about that incident for this short film which is completely fine and probably for the best because those details they left out were really horrible. lol

The secret to SCP-096 is it's skeleton. Its proven to be indestructible. Just use SCP-173 just like in the Consequences and Collarbones tale!

There's a really annoying huge inaccuracy in here, when the unit sent to retrieve it are killed, she refers to them as "MTF Tau-1" who are not human, Tau 1, nicknamed "Samsara" are, and I quote, "cyborgs created from the flesh of a dead god" so yeah no this was not them and there's been zero explanation on the SCP wiki if this was pre-Samsara or not since we don't know when Samsara were created so the only viable explanation is that they took up a unit name that was no longer in use, also an MTF (Mobile Task Force, think special forces unit) would not be like 7 dudes, they're usually at least 30-40 strong, 20/25 at a minimum, though there is one particular MTF who are like 500 strong and used as basically a hammer when you just need absolutely overwhelming firepower to help suppress an anomaly so it can be contained, so the writers of this took a fair few liberties with the script but overall its really good and a great introduction to SCP
They probably should’ve refrained from that lingo then because clearly their budget couldn’t accommodate that many MTF specialists. Wish they would’ve focused more on 096 and task force team than the scientists in the room but again we understand it was budget constraints 🤗

Fun fact: In of realities they showed 096's face to an astronaut, who was send to a Sun, 096 jumped so high, so it leaved Earth atmosphere and head to that astronaut ship and they both burned in Sun. Then they decided to look at the 096's photo and after that Sun moved to Earth and everyone on planet died.)

The reason it's called "Scramble goggles' Is because they scramble the SCP's face. Also the reason why they didn't work is because the goggles where not fast enough to cover his face. So even tiny pixels can make him go into killer mode

With the shy guy’s capabilities couldn’t it be used for assassinations and other crap as I heard it could leap to the moon and crap... couldn’t it been used for some amazing feats and quick uses.
Problem is on trying to control shy guy. Once he gets out, as in this movie, he can create a lot of kills. 😱
No, it can't leap to the moon. That's beyond even the Shy Guy's capabilities.
And while it would guarantee the target's death, there would be many innocent casualties as it would make its way to the target.

The real origin of 096 is rather tragic. 096 was a real human before, a celebrated mountaineer. He met with a curse of the king of mountain, a supernatural creature on the peak of Mount Everest. 096 saw its face, which was a hollow with two burning flaming eyes, 096 wished to just conquer the peak of Everest, the creature cursed him in a way that 096 kept climbing for years, neither reaching nor falling, no hunger, but he lost all the muscles, his limbs were abnormally elongated, finally he reached the top, climbed down to nearby village, people kept looking at him as a weird strange thing, he only saw hundreds of pairs of burning eyes of the king of mountains, that gave him PTSD, he just wanted to stay away from that creature, in his mind he was thinking of the king everywhere, which made him desperately furious, so whenever someone looked at his face, he would guaranteed kill the target, after doing that he felt remorseful knowing he killed innocents, that's why he wept, he just wanted to be at his own all the time, once the foundation tried to drop him into space, he returned and killed the target, nothing can stop him, even the SCP version of God battled him and couldn't neutralize.
So this creature as we know is immune to all damage from well anything including the wrath of god himself yes you heard me scp-343 aka god he struck the shy guy with the largest light in bolt ever created by his hand only burning the beast but not killing it and we have no way of terminating the shy guy so

Not at all. It's the socially incompetent people's interpretation of introversion. Being an isolated loser who lost the ability to socially interact is NOT being introverted. You are not unable or despise people. I am an introvert and I hate people throwing it around like it's a mental illness. I just find it exhausting and somewhat gets me a bit anxious when faced with social dillemas. I'm not locked in a room hiding from people. Now I'm forced even more to adapt since I can't tell people I'm introverted because they get a picture of you.
