When you're first trying to get out on your own, beggars can't be choosers, And jumping into a living situation with a girlfriend or boyfriend is usually a pretty bad idea. There's never a guarantee how the relationship is going to turn out or if that person is financially stable. So even if you think you know someone, you only know them as well as they allow you to. It's almost better to be in a roommate situation where you can hold them accountable for their end of the lease, And have some emotional distance from the situation.
