My son had his first BJJ tourny last summer and I was sweating bullets on the way to the venue worse than he was. Man, that Volkanovski Vs Makhachev fight was straight up insane! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And let me tell you, Makhachev was on fire in rounds 1, 2, and 4. He was dominating with his strikes and ground game. But Volkanovski came back strong in rounds 3 and 5, really putting the pressure on Makhachev. One thing that really stood out to me was the crowd. It was clear that Volkanovski had the home country advantage, with every one of his successful hits getting a huge reaction from the crowd. But when Makhachev landed something, it was met with either silence or even boos. It's kind of crazy to think about how much of an impact the crowd can have on a fight like this. And can we talk about what was at stake here? Volkanovski was putting his pound-for-pound ranking on the line, while Makhachev had his lightweight belt up for grabs. It was intense, man. And even though Makhachev came out on top, I'm already itching for a rematch. These two are just too good to only fight once.

Its impressive that Volk could manage to escape from Islam, but if it was Fiziev or Tsarukyan instead of Islam, people would be saying how vulnerable Volk looked. Getting countered throughout, getting his back taken, letting him have over a round of control time (officially over 7 minutes of control). If you compare his fight vs Holloway, Ortega, and Zombie, it basically looks like Volk finally met his match. He got beat to the punch over and over again. But because its against Islam, the narrative is that it was a GREAT performance. Against anyone else, it would just be an ok, vulnerable-looking performance.

Another issue I think is that the narrative of Islam shifted so quick to him being invincible all of a sudden. Like no, he never looked invincible. Got knocked out once, had a competitve fight with Tsarukyan etc. He didn't look as invincible as Khabib. This narrative only started since he dominated Charles which yes was an amazing accomplishment but we've seen many fights where one guy just has the other dude's number that night. I watched all of Islam’s previous fights. In this fight Islam looked weak, tired, and unhealthy when he stepped in the cage. I think this is why he did not do well in his ground game. His strength was compromised. I don’t know why. Maybe because he had only 24 hours to recover after the weight-in instead of 36 hours he had in his previous fights. He looked as if he had not recovered enough. I think he is lucky, and we should credit him for not losing the fight. I really think his strength and form were so compromised that he could have lost the fight. Volk was much more healthy and at full strength.

People who haven't been genuinely dehydrated don't know how disadvantageous it really is. I'm sure lots of fighters can win against a bigger, dehydrated person. It makes you tired faster, take more damage per punch, lowers your mental and physical reaction time, etc.

Islam did *NOT* look bigger than Volk in this fight, taller sure, but not bigger. What Volk lacked in height he made up in width, he was like a block of pure muscle. They were very evenly matched in terms of raw strength. What some pros said about Volk retaining his muscle memory due to his days as a big rugby player and from his days fighting at middleweight and welterweight, proved to be true.
Since the fight, Volk has claimed he should keep the one thing he risked against the title (his p4p status), publicly disputed the result, and accused Islam of cheating without a shred of real evidence. He's behaving like Wilder after losing to Fury and people are just ignoring it.

Islam won 4 out of 5 based on damage it wasnt even close fight, Islam wobled him 5 times throughout the fight. Round 1 and 4 were Islams based on graplling round 2 and 3 were based on striking. Islam wobled Volk twice in round 2 once with a counter that sent Volk running backwards and second time shortly after with a knee that landed clean. Volk wobled him once on top of that Islam took him down, in the third round Islam outstruck him in sign strikes and had the most damaging strike of the round the elbow that rocked Volk and cut him open on his forehead. On top of that he again took him down if the round wasnt clear enough.

I think that the UFC rankings committee disrespected Islam by not placing him as the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, especially when this entire super fight revolved around the "Pound for Pound" on the line and "Light Weight Title" on the line. Islam won the hardest-fought super fight I have ever seen, and against the greatest pound-for-pound, and he is still ranked #2!? I don't think I have seen a level of disrespect as I am seeing now from the UFC towards Islam. If I was Islam I would never trust anything the UFC is saying from now on. Man, that Volkanovski Vs Makhachev fight was straight up insane! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. And let me tell you, Makhachev was on fire in rounds 1, 2, and 4. He was dominating with his strikes and ground game. But Volkanovski came back strong in rounds 3 and 5, really putting the pressure on Makhachev.
One thing that really stood out to me was the crowd. It was clear that Volkanovski had the home country advantage, with every one of his successful hits getting a huge reaction from the crowd. But when Makhachev landed something, it was met with either silence or even boos. It's kind of crazy to think about how much of an impact the crowd can have on a fight like this.
And can we talk about what was at stake here? Volkanovski was putting his pound-for-pound ranking on the line, while Makhachev had his lightweight belt up for grabs. It was intense, man. I watched all of Islam’s previous fights. In this fight Islam looked weak, tired, and unhealthy when he stepped in the cage. I think this is why he did not do well in his ground game. His strength was compromised. I don’t know why. Maybe because he had only 24 hours to recover after the weight-in instead of 36 hours he had in his previous fights. He looked as if he had not recovered enough. I think he is lucky, and we should credit him for not losing the fight. I really think his strength and form were so compromised that he could have lost the fight. Volk was much more healthy and at full strength.

Islam did *NOT* look bigger than Volk in this fight, taller sure, but not bigger. What Volk lacked in height he made up in width, he was like a block of pure muscle. They were very evenly matched in terms of raw strength. What some pros said about Volk retaining his muscle memory due to his days as a big rugby player and from his days fighting at middleweight and welterweight, proved to be true.

Islam won 4 out of 5 based on damage it wasnt even close fight, Islam wobled him 5 times throughout the fight.
Round 1 and 4 were Islams based on graplling round 2 and 3 were based on striking.
Islam wobled Volk twice in round 2 once with a counter that sent Volk running backwards and second time shortly after with a knee that landed clean.
Volk wobled him once on top of that Islam took him down, in the third round Islam outstruck him in sign strikes and had the most damaging strike of the round the elbow that rocked Volk and cut him open on his forehead.
On top of that he again took him down if the round wasnt clear enough.
I mean the only round in which alex looked unbelievable was the last min of 5th round.
And ya his wrestling defence shooked me too but that doesn't mean he was superb in the first 4 rounds , i mean infact Makhachev was looking more calculative and accurate and he even caught alex 2-3 times but ya the last min of 5th round was messed up for Makhachev.

I think that the UFC rankings committee disrespected Islam by not placing him as the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world, especially when this entire super fight revolved around the "Pound for Pound" on the line and "Light Weight Title" on the line. Islam won the hardest-fought super fight I have ever seen, and against the greatest pound-for-pound, and he is still ranked #2!? I don't think I have seen a level of disrespect as I am seeing now from the UFC towards Islam. If I was Islam I would never trust anything the UFC is saying from now on. At the very least I would have expected DC to at least defend Islam that he should be the #1 pound-for-pound fighter after beating the pound-for-pound fighter. After being disrespected like this I would not blame Islam for not signing a rematch with Volk.

UFC should NOT give an immediate rematch and Volk need to wait for his turn! There are a few very good opponents waiting for a title shot! Its not fair to skip them and give a rematch to Volk right away! Volk need to go back to his featherweight division and fight with Yair! islam needs to defend his title against other best fighters like Beneil Darius, Justin, Dustin and also rematch with Charles who deserves rematch more than Volkanovski!
Islam won , he’s the champ in that division … as the the challenger Volk has to do more than that to win , it was a close fight but Islam won
