  • History
Plaque Attack is a video game developed and published by Activision in 1983. It was designed by Steve Cartwright. The game was released for the Atari 2600 platform. The game was created with the intention of promoting good dental habits. It was a unique concept at the time, combining elements of health education with the fun of video gaming. The game was part of a cross-promotion with Aquafresh toothpaste, where players could get a rebate by sending in proof of purchase.
    Scenario
In Plaque Attack, the player controls a tube of toothpaste. The game takes place inside a person's mouth, where various types of food, such as hamburgers and french fries, are intent on destroying the teeth. The player's objective is to protect the teeth by shooting toothpaste at the food. If the food touches a tooth, it begins to decay the tooth. The game continues until all the teeth are gone.
    How to Play?
The player controls the movement of the toothpaste tube using a joystick. The tube can be moved left or right, and the direction of the toothpaste can be aimed towards the upper or lower part of the mouth. The red button on the joystick is used to squirt the toothpaste. The game starts with eight teeth to defend. The player must shoot toothpaste at the food before it reaches the teeth. If the food touches a tooth, it starts to decay the tooth. If the player shoots the food quickly enough after it starts decaying a tooth, the tooth can be saved. Otherwise, the tooth will disappear. The food comes in waves, and their movements become more complicated as the game progresses. Points are scored for destroying the food, and bonus points are given for the number of teeth left at the end of each wave and the amount of toothpaste left. After scoring a certain number of points, the player gains bonus teeth. These bonus teeth are added at the end of each wave. If all eight teeth are still present, the additional teeth are placed on the sides of the mouth. Otherwise, the bonus teeth replace any lost teeth. The game ends when all the teeth are gone and the toothpaste is used up.
