This would be a great guide book for tourists following the same route or partial route. It would certainly encourage someone to follow the trail or make the next key point. Really wonderful Sarah. I’m really enjoying this. I can’t wait to visit Scotland.
Oh wow that’s such a wonderful beautiful adventure! There’s so many things, views, and the weather looks fantastic. I really appreciate you sharing this fun adventurous journey with us. I love your sketchbook paintings & sketches. This is definitely a wonderful inspirational video that has made me feel great & want to get out & explore my own backyard and surrounding countryside. Have a great weekend Sarah! 💕😉
I love your work! I’m so inspired by your talent and your manner. I am a 70 year young watercolorists who spends most of her time wishing I’d try. Maybe 2023 is my year!!
I think although the physical challenges may be an issue, this coastal adventure seems to be sitting well with you. You look so refreshed and inspired. What a precious record that sketchbook will be to you remembering this special undertaking
It’s true. This is exactly what I needed at this point in my life. Something to blow the cobwebs away and force me to think on my feet. I have never felt so alive and grateful for each day!
I felt so immersed in this video. It was like being there. Things are a bit tough here, (life stuff) but your story, this walk, your generosity of spirit in sharing so much of your journey was yet again, so welcome. I was transported and also found myself smiling, feeling like a proud friend or such of what your doing on this walk. It’s an epic adventure, I can feel the wind in my mind and imagine the colours and sounds. So cool, and I’m so grateful that you thought to take us all along and be part in an abstract yet somehow present way on this journey. Stay well (and hydrated) and all the best for the next part of your walk. Blessings.
I’m so glad you are enjoying it. It’s definitely an extra effort to record it but I find it very fun to look back on it too..even though it was recent! That means I’ll especially appreciate it when I’m older :)
There can be no doubt whatsoever that you are right where you're meant to be doing just what you are doing, Sarah!!! Your paintings and sketches and cinematography altogether are just stunning!!! 💙💙💙
Thank you, I’m trying! I feel that they are all very “raw” like the first few notes of a song, sung on the trail in the moment. Later I may take time to think deeper and complete the song :)

Sahra your art is so beautiful made more vibrant for these places are home to me. Due to disabilities I can no longer walk these special places so I say a special thank you for your beautiful journey through my neck of the woods.
It was a real pleasure to see this trip. I just finished my 5 days on North coast and watching yours I can't wait to start next one. Weather, colours, smells and sounds are so difficult to describe. I know how you feel so well. All the best Sarah ❤️
Love seeing a close up of the sketches you have been doing. The colors and marks come together so, I kept t great! Also, I kept having the words french toast come to mind while watching. 😉
I have to tell you this was the most epic video ever! I am down with Covid so have been watching vids like crazy (and I'm doing just fine btw). My husband has been watching with me and when he saw this one he said "I want to do that!" and I said "Me too!" So if we end up doing this in the future it will be thanks to you :) Amazing. My fave vid yet :)
I'm doing ok! And I have to tell you that I went away on a retreat several hours away a couple weekends ago. It was on a lake. I bought a backpack and created my own plein air kit and it was the first time I've ever really painted outside. All thanks to you! I've wanted to do it for soooo long! I just never made it a priority! Thanks Sarah :)
Am really enjoying this whole series Sarah! Saw a videos online about people buying those old WWII concrete bunkers and turning them into cafes, B&B, small events venues or as rented accommodation for hikers and tourists ....seems a great way to dispel the sad demons of the past. TFS!!
it would be a lovely thing, to have art on T's - or hoodies ( the sort one wears on damo mornings) i think your trek could translate well - consider it another canvas!
Spey Bay is lovely, I spend a lot of time there when the weather is nice enough, night times are gorgeous too, the amount of stars that you can see is incredible. Only downside at night is Lossie RAF has these huge floodlights that point straight you haha
Thank you! Yes, eventually I’ll have enough photos and content for a Sketching Scotland Volume 02 (and more). Taking my time and enjoying the journey :)
Your joy is my joy, Sarah! So happy to see you enjoying the journey. Beautiful sketches across mediums! I'm about to take a cross country roadtrip west myself from Maryland to Oregon! I'm excited to say the least. Thanks for the inspiration!
May I ask what is the sketchbook at 8:40? I love the tinted paper even though I suspect it's more for sketching than watercolors. I hope you get your journal published and with text and notes. That kind of journalogue is so unique when people share something out of the usual, which yours is! 🤩
It’s the Stillman & Birn nova sketchbook, I mainly use it for sketches and gouache. I’ll be self-publishing my own books from this journey eventually :)
@@SarahBurnsStudio Thanks, Sarah, and what a coincidence! I was just watching another channel that swears by the S&B beta. Appreciate you gettin back with me, I feel very confirmed now on the product, and kudos on your soon-to-be new publication! 🤗
Wonderful video as always Sarah, is that the etchr signature sketchbook you are using? I was wondering what it was like compared to their other sketchbooks (white and the grey ones). Cool idea going right around Scotland's coast.
Yes it's the Etchr Signature Sketchbook which has really thick cold pressed fabriano paper (which is a dream!). But for longer hikes it's too heavy, so I also use my Hahnemuhle 100% cotton paper sketchbook (the new one) which is pretty great too..not quite as nice but still excellent
Mavic mini, and yes I love sketching from my drone images ☺️ it also taught me how to visualise the earth from above so I can sketch it from birds eye view when I’m on the ground

Yes I have, but I’ve skipped some rainy days to catch up on work! I keep an eye on forecast but those are only right 50% of the time
SO Awesome!
Such a beautiful video, really enjoyed exploring with you!

Aww bummer about the spot lights. But I heard you can often see hints of aurora borealis in the Spey area?

You may have addressed this question at some point, but what kind of a drone do you use? Do you ever paint from the images it captures?
Mavic mini, and yes I love sketching from my drone images ☺️ it also taught me how to visualise the earth from above so I can sketch it from birds eye view when I’m on the ground
This was very relaxing. The water, rocks, and paint got into my core, just the way I like it! 💙💦 Thank you 😍
Glad you enjoyed it!
hi :D I don't see your brown watercolor sketchbook among your material list. What kind is it?
It's a Stillman & Birn Nova sketchbook but I don't use it for watercolor. Only sketching and gouache
Does anyone have the title for the stings music playing throughout the first third of the vid? I would love to find the sheet music!
I can't remember, maybe try a music-recognition app
the colours in your rocks and cliffs are gorgeous!
Thank you so much!
