I‘m afraid I can‘t wait another seven months before listening to this recording… It‘s one of my absolute Christmas favourites, and this rendition is new to me… Was new to me… And I‘m very glad I chose to change this fact, since it is more than rewarding; it‘s fantastic! ✨✨✨ Thank you for sharing it! 🙏🍀
Almost 30 years ago, Ward Marston engineered a re-issue of Plançon's Victor recordings on the Romophone label. Only four recordings were made in 1903, on 23rd December! Needless to say, copies are somewhat rare. I am trying to find the reference to the claim that these four recordings were exceptionally clear reproductions of Plançon's voice, because of the singer's proximity to the recording horn. It seems that Plançon's resonant and mellow voice was captured very faithfully by the Victor recordings, more so than most of his contemporaries. Merry Christmas to all.

Wonderful my friend!! Have a lovely holiday my friend!
Here's wishing you a very Happy Christmas Ginny and lots of good fortune in 2023.
Always superb - such a stately rendition, perfectly sung and reproduced on the EMG. Merry Christmas!
Stately is right---such a glorious composition originally entitled "Minuit, chrétiens!" (Midnight Christians).
@@grahamrankin So thrilling ...
The remarkable, resonant voice of Plançon is always a treat ! My vote, however, goes to the 1903 version, if indeed one must choose ;)
I just checked and I have two copies of the 1906, but no 1903. Sigh...
The 1903 version gets my vote too ! Very many thanks.

@@grahamrankin Me too!
@@MichaelStBede Fascinating---very many thanks.
This version compares with the 1903 disc uploaded a few days ago : th-cam.com/video/PxIcM1g1Nn0/w-d-xo.html
Magnificent! Graham...what might the Sogaphon set-up _do_ for the Plançon recordings? Might they sound even better than they do here?
@@noshirm6285 Quite possibly yes ! I did offer to buy a Sogaphon soundbox years ago. My offer was accepted but the item never arrived I am afraid.
@@grahamrankin 😢 WELL! Graham, just IMAGINE what it would DO for all those priceless 78s!!
@@noshirm6285 Indeed !
@@grahamrankin Merry Christmas in advance, Graham. 🤗
