Modestissimo come sempre, una volta si diceva "canta come un bisonte" ,solo che qui vuole fare il raffinato e l'intimista, ma la cosa gli riesce piuttosto male, Kaufmann continua pure così, tanto il pubblico ti applaudirà sempre.

His Radames has been reported as "more intimate" and personal than the usual interpretation. He always seeks a fresh interpretation.

I forgot to count the Verdi album. That = 4. The 3 you list + the concert from La Scala was broadcast and recorded ''privarely'. i have it and the differences are minor. By now he has sung it on stage several times and reviewers cited it as "intimate". I would like to hear one of those perfs. they were not broadcasr.
+N.J. Colman Thank you very much! I saw him a month ago in Munich in Aida, live, the whole Radames role was more intimate than usual. Anyway, I was looking for the Celeste Aida part from the La Scala performance but couldn't find it nowhere. (I would be really interested to see it, any ways possible?) And not to forget...Pappano had a tv programme about tenors where Kaufmann shows variations of the end of Celeste Aida (vicino al sol). That's really interesting, you can download it.
Good for Kaufmann. Fine diminuendo on the B flat. More common these days, apparently, than prior to the mid 20th Century. Too bad Bjorling never tried it although he could have managed it, in the studio or LIVE as well but this was not encouraged in those days.

Personally I dislike squillo. It yells “tenor here” and ruins whatever character the singer is portraying. One of Kaufmann’s gifts is his characterization. Cuts like this don’t give chance. See his Werther or lieder like Winterreise.
@@nolacolman His Werther is horrible. Thill is the best Werther. Squillo means the tenor can actually be heard past the fifth row. Without squillo, you get people complaining that you can't hear a certain singer (ie Kaufmann).
`Marcus Romedahl It was an outdoor concert in the Konigsplatz. For heavens sake, no human voice could be heard clearly in such an open-air flat space (10,000+) without amplification. I have heard him sing a pianissimo that could be heard in every seat of a large opera house (Bayerische Staatsoper top rung Standing room). Have you ever been to an outdoor concert that wasn't amplified?

This by far my favorite performance by Jonas. What a master of the voice. Splendid control and delivery of this performance.
