Whenever my friends make fun of me for defending Taylor so much, I always tell them about an article I read about how Taylor's marketing plan is unique in the market and works only for her, because of the relationship she carefully built with us fans...if she was a man, everyone would be talking about how much of a business power force she was... Since she is a woman, they skip on the deserving appreciation... I'll also never forget when she questioned the interviewer saying male singers would also write about their exes and that was seen as romantic....and for Taylor relies the role of crazy ex girlfriend... Congrats Taylor, this music is on point, I love it
@Cacauchan544 well if people said TS as crazy ex-gilfriend than she deserve it because that how she maket her music and rich simple. I don't think almost any male singer reach at her level of crazy Ex story songs.
I first heard this song this morning driving to school and it's probably my favorite song on the new album. I can't drive straight to this song. Love Taylor
Christopher Tola / Did you listen to the album in your car or hear it on the radio, because I don’t think any of her songs have been released as singles yet?
This has such powerful lyrics about sexism, but is done in such a clever way, being a catchy pop song. The production is amazing, especially the chorus.
I love how towards the end she sounds more wiped out and tired compared to the beginning. It's a genius way to portray the exhaustion you feel from fighting for equality, portrayed in the strong beats at the start of the song.
So, are we fighting for equal opportunity, or equal outcome. Pretty sure the female architect that lives down the road from me makes way more money... even though, as a child my dream was to be an architect. But life has a funny way of not working out the way we would like.
@@truckerduck85 The fact that the architect that lives down the road is a woman is irrelevant to if you became an architect. The question is, if you were an architect, would you make more than her?
Interesting point! To me, it always sounded more like making "the last statement", like in a confident way. Like whenever in other songs she's pointing out things she deeply believes are ironic or smth like that, but still says them in a smooth way
She's literally more successful than any male artist alive right now, so if she wanted to move towards equality, she would be the one giving up power to men. What she's actually striving towards is further inequality.
You want equality? Far more women stay home as homemakers than men. That's not equal; do you want it to be? And if a guy is walking down a street, others are more likely to see him as a threat than if it were a girl walking; that's not equal either! Don't feminists care about that, if they supposedly want equality?
"They wouldn't shake their heads and question how much of this I deserve" As a woman workin in a male dominated field (engineering) it sicks me to my stomach that when we get a raise or a better possition in the company we're "lucky", while man are deserving of it, just bc they're a man..
I got a meritorious promotion when I was enlisted and this dirtbag started talking trash about it to the whole unit when they all knew I earned it. Changed units and had to start from zero again (the boys never have to). But when I left, they all begged me to stay. Even the ones who treated me like dirt.
i'm a young aspiring female engineer. i've already experienced some of this at my high school's stem clubs (science olympiad, math team, etc) and it's just so difficult to deal with. guys are chosen over me because they're considered smarter, and they're all within this tiny little clique that i struggle to get into. however, i am SO HAPPY to see this year a ton of female freshmen joining our stem clubs, especially as a senior. Now, i think the number of females evenly match or exceed the number of males in stem clubs, which makes me so excited. it also makes me think back to my time as a freshman, entering all-male clubs, one after another, scared out of my mind.
As a man I completely agree with her. Growing up, all I heard about Taylor Swift was how people would criticize her for “dating around” and writing about exes in her music, and then later about how it was “wrong” for her to change to a sexier look and be more outspoken. Very different from how people treat John Mayer or Adam Levine. Women are expected to be polite, agreeable, and beautiful. They are assessed based on how FEW people they have slept with. People innately react much more harshly when a woman has anything contrary to say. (Just look at the comments for evidence of that). Pretty much all of these things are the opposite for men. I’m not saying that men don’t have problems in their lives, but it’s totally legitimate for Taylor Swift to wonder these things.
@@user-tj1rk3sx7c Why not? A bunch of other men have indeed released songs about past lovers and they have received huge success. I'm talking Bruno Mars, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Justin Bieber, you name it.
Avie Turley Plain as day, I don’t know how/why other people don’t see it. I admit that all the ways people used to talk about Taylor Swift made me think I didn’t like her. Later as I started trying to sing on my own, I saw some live videos of her and realized how amazingly talented she is, and how beautiful her voice is. Over the years to I have come to realize that I was pre-conditioned as a teenager to not like her based on peoples’ judgment of her for dating around. Now I have a massive crush on her and even more massive respect for her talent.
I've always thought u were unfairly judged because of your gender alone. It's drama when you do something and it's fighting for justice if a man does it. I see you for who you are. You're more than an artist. You're an accomplished, smart and shrewd businesswoman. Nothing to be apologetic for. It's definitely an uphill battle.
what the heck are you on about? being a pretty young white woman is pretty much the best thing you can be in 2019 America. I just don't buy this "woe is me, life is hard" junk from them.
@@grapeape888 You couldn't be more right. It's sad that women are all following this trend of thinking that they are unfairly prejudiced due to their gender. The truth is, that half of the time men are facing the exact same adversities as these women are, they just don't realise it because it may present in a different way, while the other half of the time the adversities they face has absolutely nothing to do with gender, but it's just an easy thing to blame it on. I'm not sure if it's worse elsewhere, but where i'm from if anything women have it better. It's just that one person complains about being descriminated against and everyone else just jumps on the bandwagon without thinking for themselves that it might be due to something other than their gender.

Yes I'll be interested to see all the categories it could be nominated. What's nice about this album is it's mostly the work of only 3 people. I think it makes all the songs a lot more personnal & intimate. It's always Taylor with either jack antonoff or Joel little. So the songs always feel and sound very Taylor. I think it's what will set this album apart from other Grammys nominated albums that will probably have more than 5 writer/producers for every song. I think the academy loves this kind of albums that Taylor did to them it feel more artistic and worthy of praise. @Mary Antonio This comment seems like it is from someone that is actually from a society in which men are preffered. That being said this song is pretty cringe.

Taylor Swift
I love what she's saying. She's not attacking anyone, and we all know she isn't. This is exactly what feminism is. It's not man hate, like the official "feminist" Instagram. It's not special treatment. It's believing that a woman is equal to man. Taylor's right, if she were a man, society would see her as "A Talented Writer With Amazing Love Songs", not "crazy and obsessive". This is true feminism.
to be honest this album is such an amazing masterpiece the lyrics are full of meaning but it is it in to a way that makes it real nice and pop i just love taylor u truly are the boss of pop and amazing music
As a guy, this song doesn’t feel like it’s attacking me in any way. Taylor’s simply calling out the double standards and inequality in our society. If you’re offended by this song and what she has to say then maybe you should take a long look in the mirror and think for a bit. She’s 100% right and she’s not attacking anyone. That’s what feminism is. Not the screeching about how men are terrible and women are better. That ain’t feminism. Real feminism is equality for everyone and it’s a shame that people have that misconception.
She is exposing the truth about double standards when it comes to women because it's real and it has happened to her during her entire career. I personally don't see this as a "feminist" song since she is just stating a reality in her own experience. Of course it can be argued that it is since to some feminism is about equality like you say but since nowdays the term is heavily deformed I would just say this is an empowerment song about women being treated as lesser people than men when they do the same thing , double standards basically
If what ur saying is ‘real’ feminism then it’s not needed. The only inequality’s are just the sexiest people. The system isn’t inherently sexist. Honestly I think she’d be in the same place. ( btw I disagree with the message of the song but honestly it’s still one of the best song she’s ever made.)
It's like being able to say that a supreme court nominee touched you inappropriately 30 years ago and being flown out to D.C. to testify despite having no corroborating witnesses or evidence.

Or maybe she got tired in the studio?
Jkjk great analysis !

This song is so necessary. So powerful. Being a feminist means you believe in equality for all, not special treatment. Just equality. Simple.
👍👍👍
Jasmine Scholz you’re right 🥰 equality among men and women is 100% needed especially when it comes to the issues of child support.
Being a feminist means you believe in equal rights and forget about equal responsibilities.
@@w_e_i_l_k_a oOf
You want equality? Far more women stay home as homemakers than men. That's not equal; do you want it to be? And if a guy is walking down a street, others are more likely to see him as a threat than if it were a girl walking; that's not equal either! Don't feminists care about that, if they supposedly want equality?

i'm a young aspiring female engineer. i've already experienced some of this at my high school's stem clubs (science olympiad, math team, etc) and it's just so difficult to deal with. guys are chosen over me because they're considered smarter, and they're all within this tiny little clique that i struggle to get into. however, i am SO HAPPY to see this year a ton of female freshmen joining our stem clubs, especially as a senior.
True🙌

@@sillysausage326 Words often have more than one definition, genius

I love this comment. Thank you!
Couldn’t have said it better!!! 👍🏻
Thank you for saying this, especially as a man. Every person should be a feminist, it's like you said not just for women, it's for everyone! 🖤

Seeing Taylor performing this masterpiece on stage might hit really different. It had been a long time, but our Miss Americana is back and I couldn't be happier.
Aww Taylor is releasing her album on TH-cam....she knows I'm poor
Hahaha I love this! So am I! I feel ya!!!
Lol
I love that she did this
She knows we're poor lol
she did it because of TH-cam Music (TH-cam's stream platform)
Pure 80's energy, pure boping and swinging. This, by far, is my favourite track in the album.
Taylor said in her interview that the media has a compeltely different vocabulary for male and female artists. If a man does soemthing its "strategic", a woman does the same thing and its "calculated". Two very similar words with entirely different connotations and thats all I've been able to think about for 2 days.
dude thats a great connection
“i wonder if id get there quicker if i was a man” this line gives me shivers.
"When everyone believes ya
What’s that like?"
Preach.
Lol true af
Swiftie-KwangBaeIsHere lol would you rather be able to send anyone to jail just by saying they did something? Try moving to Russia 😂😂
