Take it to Elvington Airfield in York, the longest, smoothest runway in the country. First week in August it hosts the Large Model Association weekend show. Why not go for the record there in front of 1500 people?
@@KevinTalbotTV hey kev! Awesome project!!! Can’t wait to see what this thing can really do! Question about the grub screws would those work on a XMAXX pinion gear? I need a flat one like that myself
@@KevinTalbotTV Hi Kevin, here are some ideas on increasing speed once you get to about 150 mph, aerodynamics becomes extraordinarily important, just as important as power. -ideally, change your whole body design to being more long and skinny, if you look at land speed record cars you will see what i mean. -But since that will mean a complete redesign, here are some ideas to improve your current car: -ADD A TAIL!! This sounds really weird, but extending the rear of the car out to a gentle point increases aerodynamics extraordinarily, because it eliminates the low-pressure area behind the car that pulls it back. Lookup "aerodynamic tail" to see what I'm talking about. -Enclose the rear wheels. Tires cause a lot of air turbulence, and hence drag, especially since you are using foam tires. If you can figure out a way to cover the front wheels too, that would be great, but it might be harder since the front wheels have to steer. -Change the batmobile-style rear fins to just regular fins. Again, turbulence. -Try and replace as many parts as you can with carbon fiber. You are right in that weight really only affects acceleration, and not top speed, but you are going to need decent acceleration if you want to get over 203 in any reasonable amount of space. Also, figure out a way to gear the thing down. I remember you said in a previous episode it was geared to 600 something mph. you are going to need more torque to get through the air at 200 mph, at that speed air is very "thick". Gear it to like 250 mph. -Finally, if you start to have issues with the motors overheating, consider adding small air scoops to direct air at them. And by small I mean SMALL! like 3/16th of an inch tall, and maybe 1 1/2 inch wide. No bigger, because they will cause too much drag. At 200mph, plenty of air will pass through them. Also, make sure the air has a way out, otherwise air will build up inside the body. h
Wow absolutely insane, I can’t wait to see it make a full pass, I also saw that’s it recommended to only do one run and let it cool down before going again so you won’t burn up your motors, awesome work though 👍👍👍

I can spot a strong determined runner when I see one, my prediction is that we are all going to lose our shit when Kev starts to get on it.. Watch.
Raz get more videos out please. It's because of you I've got back into RC`s. I'm currently trying to get a world record with a 1/18 not far away now then I'll upload my 1st TH-cam vid.
What is amazing is being able to achieve such speeds with relatively stock off the shelf parts...years ago a lot of custom engineering needed to be done to achieve these kind of speeds, custom chassis, custom wind motors and electronics. The hardest challenge is usually finding tyres that are up for it and not letting air get trapped under the car. You should try a 1/5 scake record with a pair of Lehner 30100's, they put out around 50HP each at peak power. Be the first to make the first 100HP rc car 😂
This is absolutely LEGENDARY I'm still cracking up at that sour guy with the previous record who sent you that email, can't wait for you to smash past 203!!!
Can't wait to see next development on this! Best thing about the vid was seeing all the other enthusiasts getting together and letting their projects rip!
It almost sounds like it’s only scraping when brakes are applied, throttle on sounds smooth and beautiful. Good luck Kev, we all know you’ll blow that record outta the water!!!
I'm actually impressed it hit that sort of speed in that distance, I think you'll be good up to 170-180, then you might experience issues with stability and tyres blowing etc... Looking forward to the next one.
Yes finally let’s see 200mph!!!! Well that was proper quick and it had so much more in it. Straight as an arrow!!!! We need more space!!!!! Epic build Kevin!!! 👊👊👍👍
I suggested that on one of his earlier videos for this car. I totally think the parachute would save this car from braking too far and hitting something. Totally agree with you.
@@chiefofkings I respectfully disagree. The parachute, servo and box to hold it would weigh less than a tire. I don't think that would be what holds them back from breaking the record.
This is an amazing build! I love seeing custom built speed runs and not just out of the box rtr. You might need to ride in a helicopter to chase the car so you dont lose sight or go out of range
Kevin. You might need to buy a lot more salt for those that said "No kev! That's wrong, that'll never work, it's too heavy, that she'll isn't aerodynamic enough!" Personally I think it's got a very good chance of getting the record. If I didn't I wouldn't have given you any advice over the last couple of years. I still think a parachute would be a good idea, just like top fuel dragsters use. 320+mph down to 100mph? Then they use the breaks. It'll take a small 9g servo, a spring a case and some origami to make it work but it'll save your tires. Now go and get the record..... 👍😀
Hey Kev! To help with some cooling maybe dremel out some slots in your fender arches. This will allow some additional airflow in to the ESC to help keep it cool for more runs without causing too much drag.

As a mechanical engineering student (not intelligent enough for aerodynamics), I can confirm more power = more speed

And a bit of weight reduction for better acceleration.
