NIkke is very much a textbook example of "came for the *plot*, but stayed for the plot". it can be very bipolar in either very dark or serious moments or very happy go lucky but I like that personally.
@@georgieegames I can definitely confirm that. It can be silly at times but can also pull on your heart strings, or make it really easy to hate someone lol
As a veteran player of NIKKE, everyone came into the game as the funny haha jiggly butt game. But expectations were shook after the tutorial. I've stuck around, and I'm loving the developments. EVERY single soundtrack hits the right moods, even the ones outside of combat. Some of the characters go so deep in their lives in their Bond Stories. If the layer of lewdness is what worries you, well no worries, cuz it is only one layer of the cake (the irony LOL). Delve deeper and you will find characters that you're very likely to love. Enjoy the soundtracks in the meantime!
I played very shorty after release. I didn’t rlly like gacha and didn’t care for the ads but the one ad of demonstrating scarlet killing raptures with a sword at a distance, I played it. And 2 years later I’ve continue to played it. I’ve beaten every event, I’m progressing nicely in the hard mode, and I have every single NIKKE save for Isabel. All cuz the story has me by the throat
After playing it for a few days it becomes clear that the devs sexualize the characters on purpose to get a good source of income to develop the game they really want to make in terms of story, music, worldbuilding, etc. I personally like this approach, as it makes a good balance between earning income for the company and keeping their creative freedom
That is fair enough and they definitively have developed their own unique style! If the world and story etc is awesome that's really good and if they like creating that styles that's awesome! The game is also doing really well but it is just not a style I would go for but that's just me ahah I can definitely appreciate other things about this game tho! Thanks for watching!
To be fair i don't think the sexualization is soulless, devs and artists can be horny and have fun implementing this stuff even if its supposed to be a selling point of the game. Saying "what they REALLY want to make" is a bit demeaning of the passion put into it and feeds into this idea of sexy=bad
In terms of designs they got 2 different groups of artists and coders. One for the Raptures and another for the Nikkes. The main director of the Raptures designs and battles is called wholesomely by the community has the Father of all Raptures.
Nihilister Song had my jaw drop when I first played that boss. Didn't expect the music to be that good, let alone the phase change. The Nikke music creators and Cosmograph are incredible, and are carrying that game on their back.
Their OST is crazy good and diverse. Cosmograph joined my top ranks with Vanguard Studios. I unironically have a playlist just for Nikke/PGR/Blue Archive/Arknights, those gachas are just undercovered music companies at this point.
Nihilister is one of those bosses where, you can see that the game isnt playing around no more and truly challenges all you know about previous bosses. Shes definitely intimidating storywise and gameplaywise. To think shes one of the weakest of her kind.
The main story boss fights used to be much harder before they made them more accessible (so players don't have to grind for literal months). Nihilister, along with Mother Whale would halt progress unless you had a good team composition and skill timing. Beating them felt like an actual achievement, especially since I didn't have Modernia or any other Pilgrim Nikke (comparable to Arknight's Elite Operators in regards to power level).
Back in the days I had to hand control and I-framing Noise all the time to make a progress in all contents. It made me felt like I'm playing Elden Ring or something soul like. LOL
Nowadays Mother Whale is still a hard stop but simply because I needed to break the 160 wall to get past her. Granted I joined six months ago after they made those bosses easier.
When i first heard that chime for the Harvester, i genuinely had an "ohhhhhh, fuck" sort of feeling which ended up (at the time) being justified That thing visually was terrifying and i loved it!! The bell also is basically what made me fall in love with the song so quickly. Its an instant fave for me in the entire soundtrack and its gonna be tough for it to be bumped down The music in this game is surprisingly amazing and its part of why i keep playing ♡♡
whattt bro we're never giving up is the way more better i listen to that song 30 times per day since it come out its so cool idk why less people talk about it
The Land Eater theme is such a banger but the thing is it is just a mini-boss that appears once and never comes back in the story again but for some reason composer designed to give it one of the great themes. LOL
I remember the reason the Nikke's look the way they look was because the concept of the ideal self but I think pushed to extremes. Can't remember where I read that though.
My favorite of these is probably Land Eater. The theme is amazing and was the first one I added to my playlist. Hell, I love whole boss' presentation tbh. Throughout the chapter you hear that it's an old human bunker and that the Raptures did something to it, then during the fight the entire building suddently stands up. As for other recommendations, I suggest Alteisen mk.VI's theme "The Moving Fortress" because it's quite iconic, and Modernia's theme "Ominous Cross" because if you liked Nihilister phase 1 there's a good chance you'll like it.
My fav music in Nikke after a year and a half playing are, "The Moving Fortress" (Alteisen MK.VI Boss fight) "Camilla" (OST New Year, New Sword Event), "Absolute Maker" (Indivillia 2d Phase Boss fight), and MOG "Memory Of Goddess Snow stage" from Mini game Re:Dash event.
Mihoyo games are extremely good but after I played nikke I dropped them all, Nikke gacha system is so good I could not play another gacha were limited character just vanish for month after their banner XD
Cosmograph and the sound team uses Leitmotifs a lot to great effect in order to convey the emotions of the situation. One example I'd give is a Leitmotif I dub simply as "Snow White". There's so many more, and arguably more iconic motifs of Nikke. However this character theme is one of the longest running Leitmotifs of the game. 1: The Pilgrim 2: pure-white 3: The Pilgrim (Acoustic Ver.) 4: The Pioneers 5: Dear. Snow White
If you like Nikke OSTs, might I suggest Stellar Blade OSTs? Stellar Balde is also by Shift Up and thier first console game. If you give it a listen, I would suggest "Stellar Blade OST - Intro Cinematic". This is legit the first thing we hear when you start a playthrough in this game.
I like how with Land Eater, the turtle, you're like "I bet he's just zooming all over the place" and with Nihilister, the dragon, you're like "I feel like this one is slow" LOL I've also heard that the boss songs are from the perspective of the boss, and I can definitely see that with Nihilister's music, I've never read the lyrics for it before, it suits her very well
Easily 3 of my fave themes in the game. Sometimes you forget the kind of game this is if you just listen to the music. I do recommend some of the event themes as well. You already did Red Ash and Satellites, but definitely check out ACPU Freeze (voted the fan favorite before the 1.5 anniversary), I Got Your Back, and Lovely Lonely Cat
Yep, there it is the Nihilister. And yeah we basicall beating the boss while listening to that banger and not distracted at all. Why? We miss one weakness, and we're cooked medium rare 😂 Try listen to Day Break next and Crystal Chamber boss theme, another good banger
I totally get why Nikke's character design could be offputting, but I will say the plot and world and game itself are all really, really strong. And for as much as the designs are sexualized a lot of the characters themselves are just absolute cinnamon rolls, if that helps.
Some themes I can recommend from Nikke are Goddess of Victory (Overzone event), OUR HOMETOWN (REDASH Event) and BulletStorm by NieN (battle theme)! Happy that Nikke and SHIFTUP is getting some renown finally! The sexy characters are the biggest devisive thing in all 3 of SHIFTUP's games, I'd absolutely recommend Nikke if you love cyberpunk anime and FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT FOR MANAGED DEMOCRACY'N FREEDOM BROTHER!!😤✊️ The story and character writing makes up for the sexy designs and makes you care and respect a character's role in The Ark's society, it'll surprise you.
Nikke actually defies expectations. Looking at it who would've thought it has more than just degen bait. And there is more to gameplay than just auto (it gets pretty sweaty in some content). But it is still a very degenerate game. So if someone is not into it i would recommend listening to ost and move on (i myself deleted account after first anni). As a metal enjoyer i wish more games would have metal music in their ost, but i take what i can.
If you do another set of music reactions to Nikke, I'd recommend Daybreak, So Playful and ACPU Freeze, all 3 will be a good mix of different styles. Nikke music never fails to get you hyped for a boss fight though, also the bgms in story stages really set the mood well too, Cosmograph is just the G.o.a.t.
Day Break for the Red Ash event is another really good boss theme. As for the character designs. If you can look past them then the music and story will keep your interest. Cosmograph was the best choice Shift Up could have made when choosing their primary musician for the game. Not only does he release absolute banger after banger he's also a whale and spend an unhealthy amount of time playing lmao.
Nikke can be a hard sell. While it has a very good story and deep characters it's also highly sexualised. It leads to this weird kind of 'bi-polar' story telling where a very emotional, melancholic story may start with the characters jiggling around flirting with each other in sexy santa outfits. For extra songs to react to, do "The Clarion Call" "Goddess of Victory" and "We Rise" or “lovely Lonely Cat”.
