Saying the lyrics aged poorly is perfectly acceptable criticism. No one is coming for their art when they say that. "Censoring" is outright blocking aspects of the creative vision, which fans are not doing - nor do they have any control over. If anything, it's like you're trying to censor the criticism. I've been a long time fan of TSSF and I agree that their first 3 albums lack maturity. Parker gave us his one-sided portrayal of the relationship and didn't seem to take a whole lot of self accountability. At the time I loved this albums and I still do, but now that I've matured I can see that and I don't have the same emotional investment into those lyrics. Proper Dose was a breath of fresh air both instrumentally and lyrically, where Parker's maturity really showed. He takes a lot of accountability on that record and expresses feelings that he should be spending more time connecting with loved ones and trying to understand the decisions that they make. Fortunately this new record isn't a step back as far as subject matter, but the lyrics and instrumentals are TSSF at their weakest imo. I think Proper Dose is their last great album.

I disagree with the automatic assumption that Parker must have had something to take accountability for. Why make that assumption? For all we know, he coulda been great to the girl and deeply loved her and she decided to leave him to bang trash. It's definitely not something uncommon to see. I'm not really trying to censor the criticism as much as I am trying to make fun of it for even being a criticism in the first place. You yourself may not be someone who wants to censor people's art but there are definitely people that are and it's a slippery slope we're on. If the old lyrics were slurring or bullying or being homophobic or racist, id be critical of it too but none of that happened here and that venom in those lyrics are something many can relate to and make other guys going through the same thing and feeling the same way feel less alone in what they're going through. There's no reason to assume Parker had anything to take personal accountability for because we don't know him. I appreciate you watching either way tho.

@@Rob_Cary I have to make that assumption because two different people in a defunct relationship will give you vastly different takes on how the other person treated them. The truth is always somewhere in the middle. Maybe it's closer to Parker's account, maybe it's not, but I can't take his word for everything. I still enjoy the first three records, in fact WYDS will forever be my favorite album from them, but I just enjoy it vicariously through the less mature version of myself that related with it at that time. Relationships and people are complex. Parker has gone through a lot of growth as an artist and as an individual, which is evident in Proper Dose. That album confesses a lot accountability on his part and it's the reason why I can still go back and enjoy the first three records to this day. If he made a fourth album along the same lines, it would be evident that this guy is probably stretching the truth a bit and making himself to be the victim. Given that didn't happen, I can respect his growth and appreciate what he went through to get to this point. I think that's what people refer to when they say those albums aged poorly. Although I don't exactly agree with it, I do agree that they are immature - but that's okay, because we all were at some point.
