so as a indian, (needless to say, we are passionate about food as our italian counterparts) i saw mac n cheezy, pasta alfredo and spaghetti bolognese and deep down knew it that this is NOT true italian dishes. And these people confirmed the same Thanks...
It’s hard to find a good Italian restaurant that cook the simple traditional authentic Italian dishes. It’s best just to learn how to cook these dishes yourself.
Sorry but that food came from the frozen food section not an Italian American restaurant. You have to have real thing in order to compare. Also, tradition doesn't guarantee a better tasting dish.
without a joke ... my last dog was a hungarian street dog and he woudnt even eat a chicken nugget when we were in america even trash seems to taste better LUL
That's not just an American thing, anything taken from one culture to another, the new culture doesn't appreciate it and it's history, and will always change it
@@thesaucylorax True. And I can't make sure but I'll not b surprised if American Italian foods are more popular than 'real' Italian foods among non-Italians, for example Asians. As an Asian I'd say we appreciate American cheese the most, followed by British, and maybe French, but we don't usually like 'authentic' Swiss/Greek/etc. ones, maybe not authentic Italian ones too. We don't like how 'real' European cheese smell. Too strong.
I wonder why Italian food is considered healthy? Think of all that starch and carbohydrate they have in their diet. Stuffing yourself with carbohydrates is great for athletes and other exceptionally active people because they need a lot of energy. The body breaks down carbs into sugar while this is good news for sports people it causes the average person to gain serious amounts of weight in the medium term.
Stephanie G that's actually not true, the body breaks up the carbs into atp, which is needed for cellular activity. and just one thing you should notice: italians together with japanese have the highest percentage of 100 year-olds. if our diet (as i'm a proud italian) wasn't healthy there wouldn't be so many old people
alphaHero100 I eat it when I'm lazy and don't feel like spending 3 hours making pizza. :P (2 hours for proper kneading, proofing, and resting of the dough.) Even though making it from scratch tastes a million times better... sometimes you just don't wanna take the time to make it and allow yourself to be a little lazy.
Italians are pretty picky about pasta and pizza but the stuff you served didn’t even look good

Pasta doesn't need to look good. First of all it needs to taste good. I used to eat pasta that looked so fancy and tasted very bad. So, thank you, I prefer good pasta to fancy one. But also neither of these ones in that video :)
Because the poster of the video decided to go to the freezer section for instant food rather than actually go to a quality Italian restaurant in the US, just so he could point and sputter about how bad the "Italian American" food is in the US. He intentionally misrepresented Italian cuisine in US in a sort of moronic trolling. In short he's an ass-clown.
With all due respect, this would be a much better video without intercutting clips of the auteur laughing at his own work. The tasters say it all, and very eloquently.
Never in my life have I wanted to punch someone in the face so badly as when that douchebag kept shoving the same clip of his stupid fake laugh every other 30 seconds in the video.
My wife and I went to Rome in 2019. The food was fantastic, in fact it ruined Italia food for us back home. There is no comparison. I guess we have to go back to Italy.
Agree. I don't have idea about Italian food until i landed in Rome and eat Margherita pizza,... The most simple pizza (without meat i mean) yet so delicious, the best pizza i ever had. Eat simple pasta, (also without meat) but the best pasta i ever have in my whole life, eat roasted chicken with broccoli puree, simple food yet superb delicious... And all the best tiramisu, the best coffee i ever have was in italy. Not only in rome, in pisa, in milano and Lugano same. So ya I understand your passion in food and i love it. Back from Italy, it's difficult to accept 'fusion Italian food' because it's not as good as the authentic one in Italy
@Todd Stamos You missed the point. According to Rao's website, they claim to serve authentic Italian food. If they do, then I don't see how anyone here would complain. Authentic Italian food is not Italian-American food. If the food is made like how native Italians would make it, then there's no American element. Good Italian food from good Italian restaurants most probably serve authentic Italian food. It makes no sense to pay a premium for an inferior imitation.
Well...it is quite likely to find a good trattorias with an Italian chief cooking with the ingredients ordered from Italy. Can be quite expensive but one will barely be able to tell this food from an authentic Italian one. So I would disagree here.
@@valentinberg7 hi, believe me, Italians abroad tend to adapt recipes to local tastes, even when they know their stuff. And I can't blame them for that, they've got to do their business. But we easily notice differences, that's why I suggest not to look for "grandma flavor".
Ciao Vincenzo! For many years I cooked Italian food for my girlfriend who later became my wife. Pasta Arrabiata, Putanesca, Pesto, Carbonara, Pasta Norma and many other dishes all the while telling her if she ate this in Italy it would taste just the same. Two years ago we came to Italy together for the first time and she confessed that she had never believed believed me until now! My secret to my cooking was always in my genes! You see my grandfather was a great cook and he came to America from a little town called Moscufo in ABRUZZO!!! SI MANGIA BENE !!! Thanks for having such a great cooking website !!
wow, what a great thing 😍 thanks for sharing this story with us! Your wife is very lucky, I bet you have won her thanks also to your excellent cooking! I know Moscufo very well, a small town where si mangia bene, yes 😋

I am Italian and mentally open to experimenting with new flavors. In America I ate very good things, but obviously eating traditional dishes and so it is for the rest of the world. The moral is that it is difficult to cook different foods from one's culture if no one teaches how to do it correctly. But it must be admitted that the Italians are a people who make cooking "art", they are a creative people in this too. For most of us it is a real "ritual".
Food like Olive garden, Domino Pizza amd Pizza hut is certainly not Italian American. Food like Taco Bell is certainly not Mexican Italian. Food like Panda Express is certainly not American Chinese. All made by Angel Saxon Leftists Whites from America.
Italian food is amazing, but being from Texas my personal opinion is Mexican food being the best... Italian is definitely close second... Like a 1a 1b type of close

As an American, I found this absolutely hilarious 😂 my favorite food back in the states was Italian, but no matter how delicious I thought it was, nothing compares to ACTUAL Italian food. I've lived in Italy for 2 years now and know first hand that there is no comparison. LOVE Italy and it's amazing cuisine 😋
@@Lukvader9 For years I'd heard about pizza from Naples being the best. I finally got there and was pretty disappointed. I wouldn't say it was bad. Just not especially good. I'd take New York pizza over that stutf every time.
From experience, I think the general quality of pizza in Italy is very good while in America it’s on a sliding scale from inedible to heavenly. I know this is sacrilege but pizza was made world famous not by the Italians but by Italian Americans from the US. Saying one is better than the other is a misnomer as they are really two different things. Ramen is technically not Japanese, it’s from China but it was the Japanese that adapted and made it world famous.
While I understand your point, the food you served to them looked absolutely awful, as if it had just been heated in a microwave, so I'm not surprised that it tasted dreadful.
ikr? they all looked like crap made by an 11yo; even worse than what you get out of a can or the frozen section. give them the stuff you can get from a nice restaurant and then open your smug italian mouth to gloat.
bvbxiong I went to an "Italian restaurant" in NY and the pasta wasn't just the same. You really need to try autentical pasta to understand. Just because is made in a restaurant it doesn't mean it's good.
The fact that the products are from Italy doesn't mean anything, it's also how they are cooked. If you eat italian pasta with ketchup it will still taste like shit, sorry.
The quality of the food, especially pasta, is not only based on the origin of the pasta itself (there are two main types of pasta: pasta fresca is made with eggs, pasta essicata is made without eggs and is the most used in Italy), but also on the WAY you cook it, serve it, and plate it. You just CAN'T cook pasta in cold water (you first have to bring the water to a boil at 100 degrees C) and without salt (use "sale grosso")! We also do NOT cook pasta in pans (unless you've already boiled it in water until it's "al dente" and then you finish off the cooking in a pan with other ingredients, like oil + pepper flakes + garlic), or use excessive amounts of meat or fish or cream cheese as toppings/sauces. For instance, take "pasta alla carbonara": first of all there is a specific type of pasta you must use - and that is spaghetti, preferibly thick ones -, and second of all we do use "guanciale" (which I am not sure is the same thing as bacon, I need to proofcheck that) but with moderation! The ratio of pasta to meat should be roughly 3:1... not like in your "spaghetti chicken carbonara"! As an Italian, I don't even think there even is a recipe that uses chicken as a topping/sauce, not even with "ragù" (the product of cooking ground meat with "odori" like carrots, red onions and celery). Post Scrittum: I literally have no idea where you read that "the United States is increasingly becoming a leader in the fine cheese making"... I truly believe we have a wayyyy DIFFERENT perception of what "fine cheese" is, and it certainly is NOT that repelling-looking orange block of gummy unkown substance you pass of as "cheese". I'm sorry, there just is no competition between THAT e una bella forma di parmigiano reggiano! (You've just been ranted from a 17 year old Florentine girl, ciaoo)
I died when the guy just smelled the pizza before tastes it. He knew the food was garbage. I remember my Italian-American grandmother would spend ALL day cooking our Sunday dinners. She always used fresh ingredients for everything. Always!!!! How I miss her bread, artichokes, antipasta, and my favorite braciole
My Italian grandmother did Sunday dinners when we lived in Brooklyn. As a child I was sad we weren't allowed to eat out especially for " Italian " food. Now I realize its because its not authentic real Italian. Now we live in AK and its extremely hard to find fresh ingredients. I wish I was taught the proper way. My grandmother is 95 so its our job to cook for her now ....but I wouldn't dare.... 😆I was raised American. Good thing her kids were taught properly because she woukd go hungry before eating anything I cook ( American) lol

I can relate to this video. My paternal grandparents were from Northern Italy and schooled my non-Italian mother on all the original old-world recipes. She transcribed everything from verbal instructions onto index cards (which we inherited and guard like gold). If Dad were alive today, he'd be ROTF watching this.

My ancestors were poor and left Italy during hard times. With this mass exodus, we created new Italian cuisine with local ingredients and hardships in the United States, Argentina and other places. It is not fake, it is the result of fusion cuisine for generations. Also, my entire family makes better food than is in this video.
Your comment is by far the most sensible I've read. People need to realize that food grown and prepared in various regions is going to taste differently based on soil, climate, water, etc and the availability of local ingredients. People's palates evolve over time based on their locale.
I completely agree! My mom was a first generation american who grew up in the depression. They took italian dishes from their parents who immigrated and improvised with the ingredients they could afford.
Elisa - thats a very fair and objective comment about the fusion and it can work ...chicken tikka massala or General Taos chicken (which we never have in UK but I loved in US) anyone?? i do prefer the thin very light scrappy toppings from Italian pizzerias as opposed to the cheese overloaded ones from chains .. but i do also have them once in while .. its a but unfair as I can get excellent Italian food in the US as you can in UK .. just need to know where to go..
Having done a bit of research on this - these dishes are not "fake" Italian food, but rather the cuisine created by the Italian immigrant community in America (mostly quite poor and mostly in New York City) in the early 1900s. It's an immigrant cuisine which combines some of the techniques and themes from Southern Italy with ingredients and cooking methods which were readily available in NYC in the early 20th Century. What wasn't available was the sort of hyper-fresh ingredients that make Italian food in Italy what it is (fresh-seafood, lots of fresh vegetables). What WAS available at the time was cheap, fresh beef in in large amounts and at prices much lower than in Italy (Remember, the American cattle industry was BOOMING at the time - with Western cattle being shipped East and beef EVERYWHERE - this is also the same time New York Steakhouse culture developed.) Also, while fresh vegetables were largely not available, CANNED vegetables were cheap and widely available - especially canned tomatoes, which became the staple sauce-base for Italian-American food. The industrial nature of the cuisine and the cheaply available beef are what differentiate Italian-American food from Continental Italian food - large meatballs that would have been wasteful in a 19th Century Italian context, tons of canned tomato sauce, and in the case of Pizza - the most traditional and oldest New York pizzerias use COAL-FIRED ovens rather than wood-fired ovens that you would see in Naples, because New York pizza evolved as a cheap way to feed Italian laborer going to work in the factories. So, please don't make fun of Italian-American food just because it's not the same as Italian food in Italy - it's a cuisine with a rich history, born out of people from Italy who were faced with very challenging circumstances as they immigrated to New York. There are a lot of blood, sweat and tears mixed into those dishes, and they deserve respect.
WTF is "american italian"? Do you have dual citizenship, or at the very least speak the language, know the culture and history, or just trying to get on a bandwagon of the country with some actual identity?
Lukasz........most Americans, unless they are American Indian, were either born somewhere else, or had parents, grandparents, etc....who were born somewhere else. It is a customary way of identifying ourselves, and also taking pride in our ancestry, our heritage. So, stop being an ass. BTW.......some "bandwagon". You mean the "bandwagon" of the countries of Europe, most of whom are failing miserably, and teetering on the brink of bankruptcy ? You mean the "Europe bandwagon" that's being over run by muslims? The "Europe" that looks to the USA for protection against the Russians? THAT Europe?
I live in England where you can find all the bad, fake Italian foods and many people know no better. Love your videos, bought my first Guanciale at my local, superb Italian food store, looking forwards folling your video recipe and cooking my first, authentic Spaghetti Carbonara at the weekend.
I think we have Italian American copies in uk and for more money Italian Italian although I've eaten pizza made by a Jamaican who learnt how in Italy and it was very good.
Italian food in the UK, especially London, improved a lot compared to 10 years ago, where Italian food was very similar to American/Italian. Most of the pasta dishes were more like sauce with pasta than the other wat round
I've made Cajun Alfredo pasta for many Italians who have enjoyed it thoroughly. As a foodie I don't understand why you can't wrap your head around the importance of quality ingredients and experience. Cultural knowledge can help, but it's not entirely necessary. Should we all just apologize for cooking each other's food and go back to eating only what is geographically native to each country? Again (maybe now you'll remember me) that would mean no tomatoes, chocolate or pumpkin for you!
Bill Costello Cooks in the USA put sugar in meat, should we call them good cooks? I don't think so. Sugar masks the real taste of the meat. But there are many other good things that comes from the USA: science and technology, for example. And also entertainment. Except from the ones from the UK, I generally dislike contemporary european movies and TV series.
I live in Canada and I know many Italians. I have NEVER known an Italian in my city to shop for food in any place but an Italian-owned and operated market. I’m sure there must be Italians out there that do their grocery shopping in chain supermarkets-I’m just not aware of any. This preference for Italian establishments among Italians generally also applies to restaurants. When they must, they will venture to the odd burger place, diner, sushi, Thai, Greek restaurant, or steakhouse, but overwhelmingly, when left to their own devises, they will frequent Italian places to the near exclusion of anything else. This singleminded dedication to their own products and cuisine is sometimes carried to extremes: for instance, many of my Italian friends are convinced that their regional cheeses and wines, their foie gras and truffles, are vastly superior to those of France; they insist that their engineering, machinery, and automobiles are better than those of the Germans; their olive oils better than those of Greece; their modern furniture is sleeker than Danish designs; that Italian bespoke tailoring is finer than that of Savile Row, their fashion and perfumery second to none, etc., etc., etc. For all their cosmopolitanism, I find that the outlook of a great many Italians - even the more sophisticated types - is in this regard, remarkably provincial.
I am a Finn living in Sweden and I can tell you I am a lot more "patriotic" than my family living in Finland :-D A lot of emigrants and expatriates become more nationalistic. Back in the "old country", they had the culture all around them, so it was fine to be more open-minded and experimental. The safety of familiarity was right there to fall back on when things got bad. Also, there is the xenophobia. I can imagine Italians are one of the people who are subjected to racism and prejudices. Also, if you keep telling your Italian friends that French cheeses and wines are better, that German cars and machinery are better, that Greek olive oil, Danish design, British tailoring, and so on and so forth, that everything not Italian is better, they will tell you you're wrong. I know Finland has her faults, but I'm sure not to talk about them to people who hack on her.
That was my thought too. All of the American comparison dishes look like something pulled them out of the Healthy Choice freezer section. If so, it's no wonder they all recoiled with disgust.
You did a great job at educating us. I never knew the Totinos pizza rolls and Marie Calendar meals were not authentic Italian. Thank you for shedding light on this. Please make a video showing how Japanese people react to top ramen. I will be extremely sadden if i find out another culinary delicacy is not considered authentic.
lepetitgarçonsinsocks the original Italian " Mac and cheese" used mostly shells, union, garlic, basil and parmesan. The parmesan would be on top with the shells under and then be put in the oven. I don't recognise that dish in this mutilation.
lepetitgarçonsinsocks I'm showing they are not related to each other. As doing a part time dentist study, I also am I food enthusiast. So i would love to stay in the kitchen a little longer to eat proper food.
Vincenzos Plate actually Mac and cheese is a dish from England (look this up) and no, no American ever considers the dish to be Italian....like we never do or have. Most of us think of it as southern soul food. The only thing about it that’s Italian is the word Macaroni....btw, why would you intentionally serve frozen food and expect a good reaction? Do you honestly believe Americans eat out of the freezer section of the restaurant? Do you understand how expensive those meals can be? We normally make things from scratch....I’m sorry, but your video is just rude. Educate yourself
sgtgiggles from England??? Are you serious??? No, you just ignore that "mac" is "maccheroni" = "pasta", and it's Italian! Don't tell other people to "look this up" when you just ignore the basis...
M.C. P. , That’s like saying bread is Levantine origin so every bread dish is a knock off, or chicken/cattle/lamb dishes are Eurasian only because that’s the first place it was domesticated. Or even crazier wine is exclusively a drink from the caucuses because that’s where it originally was fermented, ignoring the fact that it became the most popular alcoholic drink throughout the entire Mediterranean. Chili peppers came from South America yet it’s a staple ingredient in India, half way across the world. Your argument holds no traction. Tea is from China yet the English, all of Eastern Asia, and India can’t live without it. Learn anthropology and evolution of foods via trade. Ohhh and we can’t forget about potatoes, which a blight wiped out a massive chunk of Ireland’s population. That’s a new world tuber Incase you were wondering. Tomatoes came from the new world too, so why should anyone who isn’t Nahuatl say that tomatoes mashed up in a sauce is Italian. again, look it up. By not researching your own stupid argument, it is YOU who is ignorant, not me. Google is your friend. Why don’t you give it a shot?

I have Italian American friends and their food doesn't look as bad as the food you are showing but the video was very funny, I laughed a lot. Thank you!
They used very poor examples of the food, one thing I noticed, the Pizza served is not Good representation and like a real authentic NY Style pizza pie. My grandma was Italian and from NY and used to take us to this place her friend owned for Pizza in the 70's, it was the best Pizza I have ever had in my life and the attention to detail was something I could taste in the pizza, the right spices, herbs, gallic buttery taste the dough, the fresh home made sauce made from fresh tomato and some sort of rigorous stewing process, it's a deferent kind of taste that you can't get at your local Domino's!
Yeah, I agree, the examples were bad. It is true that Pizza was popularized more in the states, than it was within Italy, Carbonara is a post-war invention but I don't so how that is relevant. A lot of this comes down to foreigners perception of Italian cuisine as opposed to what italian cuisine actually is. It is way more than Carbonara and Pizza.@@windowsalternative2203
This is completely true. I learnt to cook proper Italian food by family/close friends. When you go abroad they often ruin "improvise" the dishes. That's why real Italian cooks come to prepare food in the restaurants. Italian food is simple, healthy and delicious. It all starts with high quality ingredients, not processed stuff.
blknitenca that's correct. Mac&cheese is older than the arrival of Italians in the US. Its origins are Italian, but more ancient. that's the way we prepared pasta during the renaissance, it was with cheese, milk, and sometimes honey and cinnamon. So I think it's correct to say that it's not affiliated to the other dishes (Italian American) they presented in this video.
Jimmy LeFirst lol no American would touch that stuff unless they were in a rush to leave the house (because he essentially showed processed microwave food)
Jimmy LeFirst You know that the cultural definition of the west has its roots in Greco-Roman civilization in Europe? How can Italy not be part of 'the west'?
to be fair, you got the worst versions of those dishes that you could. the mac and cheese looked funny and that pizza was trash. I mean...cheap delivery is way better than that mess.
First time I went to the US some years ago, my host had that KRAFT mac and cheese you guys love to death, holy shit, it's terrible, one of the most artificial tasteless foods I've ever eaten. But it seems it's quite popular.
Because it's cheap, some people get hooked on it when they grow up with it. Blame the MSGs. I used to eat Kraft Mac&cheese and my cousin's son would eat nothing else but that between the ages of 1 and 4... I can't stomach it any more though. Also, don't compare kraft mac and cheese with cooked from scratch mac and cheese casserole dishes.
You should change the title to "Serving humans terrible food" you could have put a chinese person, black person or whatever race you wanted in front of that food and they'd all think its garbage. You made a video where you served people kraft dinner and delissio pizza's......
A lot of people would still eat it though. These peoples' reactions were very indicative that they couldn't even stand to be near it, playing to the Italian factor, are you gonna hate on them as well for acknowledging that a big reason they don't like the food is their background (a big part of which is being Italian)?
Ok, these Americanized Italian dishes looked terrible to me, and I'm an American. why not try the experiment again with good examples next time? that pizza looked like it was straight out of the freezer section of my grocer.
J N Morgan I never said that the Americanized versions would be better than the true Italian ones to the Italian people, only that the test was setup for failure. I wouldn't have eaten the dishes the Italians were served in this video.
I grew up eating all that shit...and so did you (if you're an american)...i don't eat it now, but that's all americans eat...just admit it...geezus...Part of the Problem, much???
Chris Nelson because those "Italians" just want to be prick. Just saying, the people tasting those foods are a bunch of ignorants who can't even speak Italian. Enough said.
I mean if you are admitting you ate those things growing up that means you are between 12 and 18? ALso your family was poor as fuck then because all those things look like they cam from discount groceries.
I'm of the same generation and from the Midwest...but we were lucky enough to be rural, where we could grow our own food...never had to suffer through that boxed, processed, frozen crap. Never had money, but we sure ate well.
Holding up Dominoes and The Olive Garden as American Italian is kind of like Americans holding up Mussolini as a fair representation of what your average Italian citizen is like...
So, show a little maturity and self restraint. No one forces you to eat it all at once. Take the rest home. There’s not a restaurant in the US that won’t give you a “to go” box.
Allan, you miss the point dummy. Why is a chicken Caesar salad that is supposed to be for one person, literally big enough to feed 2 or even 3 people? How about making it 1/3 to 1/2 the size, and lowering the cost? I don't want a "to go" box ( as classy as you may find that) , so I can eat wilted salad the next day.
Just order one and share it then. Or just ask them for a half salad. Most places will be happy to do that for you. They serve large portions because customer satisfaction is the most important aspect of business. They never, ever want a customer to walk away thinking they paid too much for too little. You give the customer more than their money's worth because you want them to come back. Most Americans laugh when they see some high-priced restaurant put some thumb-sized piece of chicken, next to a baby carrot, drizzled with some yellow sauce, with a sprig of parsley on a plate for $50. It may look good, but the average Joe ain't paying for edible art when he sits down to eat.
We know it's "fake Italian", but that doesn't mean it's a good representation when you serve them precooked frozen food. Spaghetti and Meatballs is only "fake" because authentic Italians don't serve meatballs on top of their spaghetti. But I'm sure that someone in America could still cook and serve up a pretty damn good bowl of spaghetti and meatballs that would meet the flavor approval of those Italians.
I call bullshit on this video. Italian Americans have been making great food in America for centuries. What did you do pick the worst food? There are thousands of great Italian Americans restaurants and Delis all over the country. Pick the best food from America, don't tell the recipients it's from America, then do the test with a side by side comparison with food from Italy. You may be embarrassed.
As a Canadian I can certainly vouch for this. I've eaten all over the US from NYC to San Francisco to Chicago. You're absolutely delusional if you think that this video is even remotely indicative of American Italian cuisine. You should be ashamed of yourself for this bs on here. What a joke.
What's your point though? I know lots of Italians who won't eat anything OTHER than Italian. They won't try Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern or anything else for that matter. What does that tell you about them? I'm sorry but like any other cuisine in the world, if you use quality ingredients and serve up fresh dishes, Italian-American food is as good as anything out there. If you serve people frozen pizzas and spaghetti and meatballs out of can, they're going to have a bad day. One place in particular is the the Mulberry in Buffalo, New York in the Bethlehem Park area. Everything is scratch made including their exceptional mozzarella. I challenge any Italian from the motherland to try their food. I'd bet my house that they'd love it. Also, keep in mind that I have no skin in this game as I'm from Toronto, Canada, but I've visited the US and a lot of Europe on countless occasions so I feel like I have some idea as to what I'm talking about. Plus I'm half Italian so I've witnessed this attitude from a lot of the older generations in my family. Living in a city like Toronto - where I can get anything from Ethiopian to Sri Lankan - has allowed me to be introduced to some foods that I would easily take over a good bowl of pasta. Don't get me wrong; classic Italian dishes from my father's region are exceptional and some of my very favourites. But a good bowl of pho or ramen is absolutely divine and tough to beat in my eyes.
My father's grandparents came to NY from Sicily, both his parents are Sicilian, he was born and raised in NY in Brooklyn. My mother, well she's a mix of European. They made me and my brother, so although I didn't immigrate from Scilly my family and extended family still up hold most traditions and lifestyle from Scilly.
My mother was taught how to cook by my father, grandmother, and all three of my great aunts. If I even joked about using jar sauce or eating frozen pizza I would get the spoon!! And when the wooden one broke I got the metal one lol
True Italian American " cuisine " was born out of economic restraints and availability and should not be lumped in with something Pizza Hut, Olive Garden, or any chain " Italian" restaurant would serve. Our immigrant grandmothers created Italian American cuisine and our moms and aunts specialized in preparing it. In my opinion it is every bit as valid ..and as good.....as " real" Italian cuisine.
That' s BS right here... You cannot make a ANY dish without proper ingredients. You cannot make Czech svickova sauce without loads of root vegetables. You cannot make Russian borsc w/o beet. You cannot make English roastbeef out of a bloody chicken. You do not use cheddar in Italian mac&cheese. It is just completely different food in States. Once you lack them and use substitutes, then it is substitute for the meal. Simply as that. You cannot call it Italian food anymore. It is inspired by Italy. If anything.
as a Chilean from an italian family that has american and italian food: they are not imitations, or fake, american pizza is american pizza, and italian pizza is italian pizza, i like them both but its like comparing rice and noodles.
American pizza is garbage and an insult to us Italians. Anyone who defends American pizza is not Italian, but a traitor who should call themselves American from now on.
Lol but they all act like they are 5-star chefs, which is highly annoying lol and now you're claiming that every single italian can cook well, I call bs. No offence
Lol I have met Italians who think they know how to cook but when I tasted their food, it wasn't as good as you might think. not every Italian can cook well , heck I knew some who couldn't even cook at all.
I try to explain myself better, certainly not all are chefs but certainly in Italy we have a great taste and 'a "culture" of food, something that the United States will never have because of politicians in favor of the omg ... everyone boasts of the best things that your country can give, then Italy is proud of its cuisine and its art while the USA has the ability to stabilize nations and make wars all over the world ... everyone prides himself on that that has ... to everyone his pride ... I prefer mine because if the ° ° Italians are critical of the kitchen there will be a reason why there will be a reason if the USA wars and has been murdering for 230 years .. You eat shit and you are also convinced that it is good while the real food you have never tasted it.
Misleading title, this video has nothing to do with America! Its filmed in Leichhardt Italian forum in Sydney Australia. The food they are eating is Italian Australian.
Vincenzo I have very recently discovered your channel, and it's very beautiful seeing someone as passionate as me when it comes to their culture's food. I am a Greek woman who has grown up in Melbourne, with a passion for my culture and it's food as well. Australia (and even these 'Greek celebrity chefs" ) have destroyed our food also. Same story in America from what I experienced also. It's very frustrating, as not only are people being lied to, but ancient cultures are slowly being modified to the point of erasing the truth. I admire you for your passion and courage. Never stop doing what you are doing.
I am Italian. I know how food from Nonna tastes like, and I know olive garden and co.. are not representatives of Italian cuisine. Nevertheless americanized Italian dishes can also taste good when cooked with good and fresh ingredients. Nobody of my Italian family would be so ignorant towards food they don't know.
That's good. I used to enjoy mocking variations of Italian food until I realised that my Italian grandma's recipe for pasta sauce probably isn't "authentic" even though she grew up and learned from her mother in Southern Italy. I love her pasta sauce and I think it's good to have an open mind or else you might miss out on good food. I'm sure families have their own unique recipes even in Italy.
What's supposed to taste good about it? Except my Italian heart breaks when I see this garbage. Are you crazy? It hurts to hear something like that from an Italian, if you are one at all.
@@JFP1988 If you want to trample on our traditions, feel free to do so. But don't be surprised if you are excluded in Bella Italia. Because that's exactly what you deserve.

Vincenzos Plate sound like a copout. Just show us what that grandma makes. I’m sure it looks delicious. I’m American so I grew up on Mac and cheese and spahgetti and meatballs. Show us what we’re missing
You'd be surprised how much depth there is to taste and food. You might not know how it is but you might wanna come to Europe and eat some traditional dishes. The Americans ain't got shit on us.
I'm Sicilian and literally everyone I know eats pasta every day, once a day (although I'm sure many Italians don't.) Dinner is usually bread based, breakfast is usually a sweet croissant or roll, coffee, milk, cookies, Nutella on Fette Biscottate, and the best Sicilian breakfast of sweet brioche dipped in almond granita. Last time there, they thought my husband so strange for eating eggs for breakfast. Yeah Vincenzo, you served them up nasty frozen food, but these people were very rude and snobby, but that is how Italians are, and it is true! They have a lot of pride in their food and culture, and they should, but it doesn't mean they should be disrespectful. Italians grow up believing they are the best in everything and that Italy is the best place in the world, and don't get me wrong, I'm an Italian and I love Italy, but when you have that attitude it makes it hard to appreciate all the other beautiful cultures in this world. Also, last time I visited, about 3 years ago, I stayed for quite a while and American food was really popular. But whenever a cousin served me up "American" food or we went to an "American" restaurant, I didn't criticize the "Italianized" American food and call it disgusting and inauthentic, I'm not that rude.
There's a lot of snobbery around Italian and French food. And you're right it is a bit rude. I think the problem is when you call it Italian food or compare it to the authentic dishes. This video got me thinking about my own grandma's cooking. I love her pasta sauce but even though she grew up in Southern Italy and was taught by her mum you probably won't find the sauce she makes on any menu in an Italian restaurant in Italy. I think it's probably quite unique, and therefore technically not authentic but it's based on authentic Italian cuisine and I'm sure not every family and individual in Italy cooks in exactly the same way. If you approach food in this manner you can miss out on good food and the food culture never evolves.
Love this video, I watched after the episode 2 the apology, and I don’t get why people were so upset I thought it was rather funny, as an American all these videos have been so educational ❤️
People were upset because these old geezers are acting like babies who don't want to eat their vegetables. They didn't even try the food and were already fake throwing up.
I've been to Italy on Holiday a few times and I love the food it has to be one of the worlds best cuisines , The restaurants in the US, Britain and other places just serve up a mockery of Italian food to us with cream and other rubbish in it, Go to Italy and experience proper Italian food.
I am from asia. And so far I only ate american style pizza. Once I tried the real pizza margherita... dear god, I think I can never eat american pizza anymore! 😂
I’m French but my ex-girlfriends family was off the boat and thank GOD the mother actually accepted me and taught me how to properly cook authentic Italian dishes. Unfortunately my wife today is from Colombia and she’s happy eating Papa Johns yukkkkkkk........
typical clickbait stuff. serving the worst family dollar and walmart microwave products to food lovers. but the older guy is a typical italian guy that hates everything that is not cooked by mama or nonna. as simple as that. you can find amazing food everywhere in italy, but also lots of below-average restaurants. like everywhere in the world. but this here is like serving microwave kebaps to turkish guys or canned gyros to greeks. everybody would hate it.

This is a very correct depiction of real Italian foods. After coming home from public school one day, my mom asked me what I had. I told her I had two lunches mixed together: spaghetti and a hamburger. My mom only puts Italian sausage in spaghetti. She asked me if I ate it, I said yeah 🤷 She asked me if I was sick, did I get sick lol. And was 💯 % serious
I love your recipes. I can feel the love and precision as you combine ingredients. Italian food is love and a masterpiece. Can you do a video on Italian Cheese Cake made only with Ricotta
I'm Italian, and I lived for a long time in LA while i was in college, telling the truth I find unfair that this guy makes fun of the italian/american food pretending it's all bad,. I have to say that surely some of it it's not the healthiest stuff, neverthless, I got used to it once I started to live an ordinarly life in the US, and i liked it too.. (except macaroni and cheese ....besides not being italian at all, it's a really bad junk). It's a cheap shot if you give this food to old italian folks be cause you have a guaranteed result...which is a negative response. The reason is simple.....Italians are quite conservative in their feeding habits (indeed we like to eat well and our way), old italians are basically impossible to satisfy even if you bring them to the best restaurant in town... 60% of the times they might refuse just because they're not used to the taste at first glance, the other 40% is because of that silly italian proudness about the old "italians do it better" thing. In California I saw many things called Italian and cooked by vietnamese or mexicans...some stuff was really unknown to me, some tasted good....some was ridiculous even to look at... the bottom of the line is that we do really eat different, but doesn't necessarely mean all the italian/american food is crap (when cooked properly), we can get use to it.... The stuff though must be cooked on demand...not for many like in the fast food restaurants ....otherwise chances are it won't be liked.
How is it unfair when say a giant corporation makes a meat lovers pizza with gross BBQ sauce??? They are just cutting corners and making the cheapest nastiest food and passing it as an Italian Pizza NOT UNFAIR at all!
E studiare.

@@thesaucylorax True. And I can't make sure but I'll not b surprised if American Italian foods are more popular than 'real' Italian foods among non-Italians, for example Asians.

_Rooseje Keizer Well since they didn't give them Pizza hut or Dominos in the video, that really doesn't apply

Pasta doesn't need to look good. First of all it needs to taste good. I used to eat pasta that looked so fancy and tasted very bad. So, thank you, I prefer good pasta to fancy one. But also neither of these ones in that video :)
No, they wanted to trash it caused it smelled like trash.
And tasted like trash
Because the poster of the video decided to go to the freezer section for instant food rather than actually go to a quality Italian restaurant in the US, just so he could point and sputter about how bad the "Italian American" food is in the US.
He intentionally misrepresented Italian cuisine in US in a sort of moronic trolling. In short he's an ass-clown.

Bravo
@Todd Stamos You missed the point. According to Rao's website, they claim to serve authentic Italian food. If they do, then I don't see how anyone here would complain. Authentic Italian food is not Italian-American food. If the food is made like how native Italians would make it, then there's no American element. Good Italian food from good Italian restaurants most probably serve authentic Italian food. It makes no sense to pay a premium for an inferior imitation.
Rule no. 1 for Italian people:NEVER look for Italian food in a foreign country. NEVER.
That's an important rule, you're so right!!

I am Italian and mentally open to experimenting with new flavors. In America I ate very good things, but obviously eating traditional dishes and so it is for the rest of the world. The moral is that it is difficult to cook different foods from one's culture if no one teaches how to do it correctly.
LOL and maybe you should stop eating your crap american food cause it's obviously poisoning your small brain.

I'm looking to be adopted by an Italian family after watching this video...
Elisa Pallatin, Italians food from the US has developed to your tastes. Brasilians prefer Sao paolo pizza to roman pizza
@@leonardodavid2842 And I would defend your cuisine, too!
I am american Italian and my momma made good Italian food. this stuff looks like the frozen food you buy at the market. 🙊

Italians just do it better
Allan Curtis - Bada-bing bada-boom! 🇮🇹👍

Yes they do. Also, Americans go to American Italian restaurants and get Alfredo spaghetti with all that cream, etc.
"Mac n cheese" means macaroni with cheese, which I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) has been a dish in Italy since approximately the 1300s.
sgtgiggles from England???

Holding up Dominoes and The Olive Garden as American Italian is kind of like Americans holding up Mussolini as a fair representation of what your average Italian citizen is like...
Bravo!!
Uncle.....the biggest problem with American restaurants is not the quality of the food, its the portions. The portions are too big.
It may look good, but the average Joe ain't paying for edible art when he sits down to eat.
it looks like you just got food from the freezer section and heated it up, no wonder no one wants to eat that.
So have you ever been to an Italian-American's home and tried what they cook?
Gillis like Every american does you mean?
Yes indeed. They look like something from the freezer in the supermarket, that has been thrown into the microwave oven...Yuk..!

I have several Italian friends from Italy living in America and non of them will ever eat American Italian food.
Living in a city like Toronto -
where I can get anything from Ethiopian to Sri Lankan - has allowed me to be introduced to some foods that I would easily take over a good bowl of pasta. Don't get me wrong; classic Italian dishes from my father's region are exceptional and some of my very favourites. But a good bowl of pho or ramen is absolutely divine and tough to beat in my eyes.
Name one.
Nice deflection. Give me a name.
I'm American/Sicilian, that food looked fucken nasty. let me look them something that wasn't frozen , from a jar, or a box
American/Sicilian? How so?
My father's grandparents came to NY from Sicily, both his parents are Sicilian, he was born and raised in NY in Brooklyn. My mother, well she's a mix of European. They made me and my brother, so although I didn't immigrate from Scilly my family and extended family still up hold most traditions and lifestyle from Scilly.
My mother was taught how to cook by my father, grandmother, and all three of my great aunts.
If I even joked about using jar sauce or eating frozen pizza I would get the spoon!! And when the wooden one broke I got the metal one lol

Oh wow 🤩

Thank you so much for your comment bella, I really appreciate your words! You’re right in everything you said, thanks again
I love authentic Greek food... Let's hope "they" don't ruin that too.

I love this video. I am American and abhor most attempts at Italian food here. Thank you for the video
Giulio988 Bravoo!!!
To be fair, most Americans find this food disgusting too. Haha!
Yeah I know that my friend! I don't really understand how anyone can find this food appetizing
They should have showed us what real italian food looks like.
Vincenzos Plate sound like a copout. Just show us what that grandma makes. I’m sure it looks delicious. I’m American so I grew up on Mac and cheese and spahgetti and meatballs. Show us what we’re missing
You can, it just takes more effort. lol
Trust me its realy goof
@Hello World fuck no!
@Hello World what?
"mac en ciiii!o piatt fappuzza!?""se mia mamma vedrebbe scti spaghetti con le porpette...."ahahahah,muoio
It looks like he's giving them horrible versions of the "fake" food. I call bullshit on this video.
Your Brain regà state calmi oh😂 poracci ho capito che non sanno replicare il cibo italiano e continuano a difendersi ma non incazzatevi così XD
+ John Bencoma : You do understand that this was cooked in Sydney , Australia , don't you ? This vincenzo clown is just a hate monger .
You'd be surprised how much depth there is to taste and food. You might not know how it is but you might wanna come to Europe and eat some traditional dishes. The Americans ain't got shit on us.
Nope that food sucks in italy I been in america and im from italy, so...
It's clear that your pallet has been manipulated by McDonalds. God have mercy on you foodie soul.
All the dislikes are from upset americans that don't want to deal with their country food problems
Soo true
No, it's not an accurate depiction. If you served that food to Americans they would throw it out.
Andrew Hollister you just don’t have any culture or food
@Jesus Christ no wonder yall fat and unhealthy, go eat your sugar filled disgusting burgers
Spot on video. Love it 🥰
Awesome! Thank you!
I LOVED this video!! It makes me want to try the traditional versions even more!!
Go for it! 😍

Exactly how I felt after coming back from Italy. 😂 Italy has the best food in the world IMO.
@@vincenzosplate For sure! We ate at one tourist trap in Sorrento. It was still better than Italian in the US. 🤣
Have you ever been in Italy?
I strongly disagree. The food was boring & bland. I couldn't believe how dry the food was in Italy.
@@luvinmysailor You must of hit the fast food joints of Italy. 😉🤣 What was dry, I'm curious?
That's because Americans poison the food with GMO'S. Tomatoes and cucumbers don't have the same aroma and taste they did 20 years ago.
great video vicenzo
Thank you my friend!
Love this video, I watched after the episode 2 the apology, and I don’t get why people were so upset I thought it was rather funny, as an American all these videos have been so educational ❤️
Oh, many thanks Sean ❤️🙏🏻 I really appreciate!
People were upset because these old geezers are acting like babies who don't want to eat their vegetables. They didn't even try the food and were already fake throwing up.
@@Lee-ic8ln its because your american food tastes like shit
I've been to Italy on Holiday a few times and I love the food it has to be one of the worlds best cuisines , The restaurants in the US, Britain and other places just serve up a mockery of Italian food to us with cream and other rubbish in it, Go to Italy and experience proper Italian food.
I am from asia. And so far I only ate american style pizza. Once I tried the real pizza margherita... dear god, I think I can never eat american pizza anymore! 😂
once you taste the real Italian pizza you never go back, you're right 😁❤️
I’m French but my ex-girlfriends family was off the boat and thank GOD the mother actually accepted me and taught me how to properly cook authentic Italian dishes. Unfortunately my wife today is from Colombia and she’s happy eating Papa Johns yukkkkkkk........
How about cook Columbian food for her?

typical clickbait stuff. serving the worst family dollar and walmart microwave products to food lovers. but the older guy is a typical italian guy that hates everything that is not cooked by mama or nonna. as simple as that. you can find amazing food everywhere in italy, but also lots of below-average restaurants. like everywhere in the world.
but this here is like serving microwave kebaps to turkish guys or canned gyros to greeks. everybody would hate it.
Yet another triggered American
You're not supposed to eat macaroni with only cheese, no wonder americans are all obese.
jojibot it’s possible to criticize something without being “triggered”, you know. This video might have been valid if they served dishes made fresh by an Italian American chef.
Du u think there wrong and think the food they just had was good 8f u do ur anouther person who knows notin about food like the people in ireland knows noting about good ur brought up with shit food so u think its good if u like that food ur fucked
Giovanni Doria you’re not biased at all
This is a very correct depiction of real Italian foods.
Thanks for sharing your story! It's great to hear that Italian cuisine cured you 😂🇮🇹 Hope you try out some of my recipes!
I love your recipes. I can feel the love and precision as you combine ingredients. Italian food is love and a masterpiece.
Can you do a video on Italian Cheese Cake made only with Ricotta
“se mia mamma vedrebbe” ho sentito un tonfo al cuore
Ops
Is content bro
E studiare.
The guy who said eating stuff like that will make you ill over the years is right. It gave me ulcerative colitis. I have spent one week in the last 10 years not suffering. Where was I that week?
