Researcher Pianist, Dr. Kawakami studies（Waseda University） “why people listen to sad music” from the viewpoints of music psychology, neuroscience and cognitive science. Her paper published in 2013 caused a sensation all over the world, featured in the “Gray Matter” article of New York Times, BBC radio (The Why Factor) and Le Monde de l'intelligence.
She played an assigned piece for the entrance exam of music college when she was 12 years old.
She performed etude by Chopin showing students at a music college as a good example at the age of 15.
The pianists she respects: Nelson Freire, Martha Argerich, Murray Perahia, Grigory Sokolov and Evgeny Kissin.
