Good coop for a small flock. I would put 12x12 pavers under the whole coop to keep the predators from digging under it and keep the wood off the ground.

Wire up that hole in the wire! Chicken snakes can get in small holes and wipe out yiur chicks! I learned the hard way.

Nice coop Andrew! I agree with your thoughts of adding meshed fencing wire along the bottom perimeter of the coop to keep predators from digging under. One modification I'd make would be to reverse the hinge and supports on the main box roof panel to the make the roof panel hinge from the outside toward the coop run. That way you could stand closer to the main coop box if you needed to do something in there. The way it's hinged now, the nesting boxes don't allow your feet to get close enough to bend over to work in the main box. 🙂

That is a great coop for chicks. Or a brooder. From experience living in SW Az where it’s 110°+, I would recommend to consider free range or fence in a large area for the hens. No matter how much air flow and water, even mister system, I always lost a couple in the summer. I moved them to a 700 sq ft area with 15 hens and shade over half, I haven’t lost any to heat. Seems like they need to roam to keep cool. Plus they need a little dirt for a “dirt bath” to keep parasites off their feathers. They will lay in the dirt and throw dirt on themselves. Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work and videos.

I liked this one just based off the title!🐣
And great content as well. Good idea to run some hardwire around the perimeter. Don't worry about trying the bury it. Just staple it to the frame and let it sit on the ground extending out from the coop. That way if something starts digging it will hit that hardwire mesh right away. Also consider putting wood chips down in the run. The chickens help the wood chips decompose by scratching around and that counteracts the smell of the chicken droppings. The result is great compost for the garden!

I've seen other few channels have that same thing and they have had no problems getting them. It's a little product.
I saw a chicken coup that used the roof rain run off to fill 55 gallon drums to hold and distribute water throughout the inside and outside. Once completed you no longer have to bring water to them, it done.

When I built the coop for my son, we buried brick around the edges to keep the raccoons & coyotes from being able to dig under it.

I can't recommend cackle hatchery highly enough. Great folks. They put out quality chicks and they back up and support their product . They also ship quickly predictably and on time with great selection.
For some reason I really desire to incubate and hatch my own. Seems like a really enjoyable experience.

We have been have problems with owls and raccoons at night with our chickens, What we did to prevent this was put a 📷 that sent real time pics on the coop and ran a strain of electric fence around the outside of the coop about half a foot away all the way around, so far problem solved
You will enjoy my upcoming video because that's exactly what I am doing. I have two blink cameras already setup out there.
Having raised chickens for 13 yrs in FL, that coop would never stand up to our predators. We switched to all metal roofing after having a raccoon chew through 1/2" plywood covered by roll roofing and kill all our chickens in that coop. They start chewing at the corner of the roof. Outside nest boxes are asking for trouble too. They will chew from the bottom corner and get in. All coops in FL or humid hot places need to be hardware cloth and 2x4s. Wrap the hardware cloth over exposed posts to help prevent predators from chewing. The coop should be as open as possible because our humidity can cause respiratory issues with poultry in the summer. Chickens can handle the cold here just fine, its humid heat that causes issues if there is limited air flow in the coops. All runs need to be covered and skirted at least 18 inches out 2 prevent digging in. I have game cam of a fox digging into a run and taking chickens out. Cedar is bad for chickens. They need pine chip bedding never cedar..not sure about cedar coop wood. You also have bears...
Plenty of air under that barn as it's open to the West. I don't plan to leave them in there long, just until I can find the time to build my custom coop. I also have a trick up my sleeve, two blink cameras that will watch either side of the coop and notify me of motion and record. I can be out there quickly if a predator comes around. Technology might as well help me out. Thanks for the tips!

Definitely make something to go around the bottom because I guarantee something will dig in that loose dirt and get under it....snakes, coons, skunks any critters will do that!! But I can't wait to see your homestead grow!!!

LOL at first I wondered why you were assembling a pre built chicken coop...That'll make a great 'tractor' if you put wire along the bottom and shade screen across the top you can roll it out into the grassy areas. I can see you building a chicken run all around your garden so they can happily munch on bugs and help keep them out of your garden...Soon you'll be making your own chicken poop compost!

I’m glad you’re gonna let them out. Green fed chickens and their eggs only produce about 20% of the nutrition that pasture raised chickens have. Especially when you’re eating a lot of eggs do you want them to be as healthy as possible. Grain is not good food for them, it’s wet the industry tells everybody to use but because it’s cheap, it’s much better to have them running around eating grass and bugs and worms and little lizards and snakes and what they eat naturally and you’ll end up with much better quality eggs and eventually meat. Same with cows and goats and everything else. Pastor Rays is exponentially healthy and you won’t need anabiotic‘s and hormones because they won’t be sick because they’ll be eating healthy. When you stuffed them full of grain it makes them fat and marketable but they’re fairly sick animals because that’s not what they eat in nature, I get a little grain seasonally but most of the time they’re eating bugs and grass.
It’ll be cool to see chickens running around in your videos and hopefully the help deep bugs and all that down as well. Cross your fingers and maybe they’ll even eat wasps and chase off armadillos. 😂

An average person would buy chicks, but not Andrew, he'll incubate:)))) That seems quite useful for starting or for people with small space who can't have many chicken. And the color is within your palette LOL!

Andrew I used rabbit wire and attached it to the outside bottom of my pen and let it run outwards the two feet or what ever weigh you should use but I buried it down about six inches. That away most of the time should something try to dig under they would have to dig back out the two feet or so in order to get under the wire also by using the rabbit wire the squares or to small for snakes to get through. It’s just a thought.
I do also plan to bury wire myself.

Great looking coop. I would not cut the door to install screen. Connect screen to the inside frame. That way you can as you said close the door in wintertime for heat retention. Now lets get them chicks delivered!!!

Please consider more protection for your chicks. Raccoons, dogs, bears and any number of larger creatures can break through this style coup. We put ours inside a 10x10 enclosed kennel.
We’ve left them in the pasture with a locked chicken tractor and one of those moveable solar powered electric fence surrounding in. We lost a few chickens but because of the shock predictors that did break in only got 1 or 2.
So that would probably work ok.
I like the electric wire idea, plus I have something else in mind.
You addressed my only thought, raccoons and foxes will dig under the sides and kill your birds. I would almost be tempted to put hardware cloth under the whole thing... Not sure though.

Clost in the bottom with mesh and add wheels and you can move it around the yard. Dont forget to add rain water harvesting to the big coop so you can have a auto watering system.

With raccoons, skunks, yote and the like. You may want to anchor the run base down and or bury some wire so that nothing digs under.
I'm considering that, but I do have something else up my sleeve.

We used to have rabits on raised level hotches we had maiby 30 rabits or so before we sold some and some past on

I would suggest putting an over sized layer of rabbit / chicken wire on the dirt under the entire coop and secure it to the ground and the coop somehow. Those raccoons, foxes , etc. are relentless when it comes to chickens.
Plus, I like all the music you pick for all your videos, to use as a filler when we watch you in fast motion. Usually music annoys me, not yours :)

Definitely add something under the perimeter to prevent animals digging in from outside. We have it around ours and it has saved many a bird from predators.
I agree, that's also why I want to lock them inside the house at night.
I like that coop. I have seen several of them but different models. To me, they was too small for chickens but good for baby chicks. The one you have is much better. 👍
I think it would be perfect for 4 laying hens or a bunch of chicks.
Need to cleans the cab window of you tractor. Portable electric fence to give them more safe space. Need water collection from roof to a barrel to a watering nipple. Some way to collect water so they never run out. For a pre built coop looks good. How many birds is the max cause it doesn’t look that big? Stay Cool.
If I remember correctly it's rated for 4+ hens, we shouldn't have a problem putting many times that of chicks inside.
Are you against moving that through your yard around your house. And moving it as needed. To help fertilize your yard, and keep your chickens on fresh grass. Or in the Fall and winter time (if it will fit) put the run section in your garden for weed control and fertilizing. With that coop your possibilities are endless. Chickens are the gateway drug for farm animals.
I'd have to reinforce the bottom to be able to constantly move it. I am considering building a chicken tractor.
You need to clean the front window of your tractor. I can't see anything when the sun hits is. I can't wait to see the baby chicks.

I am getting around 15 eggs because I do expect some to not hatch. My ultimate goal is around 8 laying hens once I get my big coop built.
Well how funny. I live in a town of 7700 ish. And yesterday I found a chicken in my backyard. Then she whent to a neighbors house and nocked on the door.... but no one owns her. So I named it KFC...

I guess you can call yourselves farmers now 😁 You may to critter prof the coop from digging under and chewing thru raccoons can be pretty creative and determined for a quick taste of chicken. Good luck

3 good breeds of layers are Plymouth Barred Rock, ISA Browns and Golden Comets.. Start them off with crumble feed, once they feather out switch them to pellets, there will be alot less waste with the pellets..

Goats or cows, depending on how much fencing we can get done.
I would be worried about the bears getting in. Might want to keep them in the garage until they are fully feathered out. Maybe get one of those solar powered fences to help keep animals out of the area at night. Try not to get white chickens because they are a good target for hawks.
Luckily we've never seen a bear up by the shop. You never know

@@TKCL if you want good Laying chickens I would recommend red sex linked chickens and also some Americana chickens they will throw the blue green color eggs and if you like the dark red chocolate eggs color then you have to look into the black copper marans

@@TKCL sorry... You can also use a heating lamp and some kind of tray but make sure to put some water in a dish for moisture but you will have to rock the eggs side to side daily 🤷🏽♂️.... Trust me I have made more with less. Or if you have a tractor supply store near you they usually have pretty good little incubators
funny how scripted this video is, ive watched serval reviews regarding this exact product and alot of this stuff is word for word the same exact thing the other tubers say, not hating just kinda shitty when your looking for a truthful review.
Wow that's pretty crazy being these are my own words and nothing was scripted. I don't take anything from a company that tells me what I have to say. And FYI that Coop is still taking care of our chickens over a year later. Heavy duty, nope it isn't. But it's a good solution for someone who doesn't have the time or tools to build one.
