It's a cultural thing. Bedouins do it because they're patriotic. Christians do it because they see their brothers in Syria, Iraq and Egypt being slaughtered by Muslims. But I've never heard of an Arab Muslim, who is not a Bedouin, enlist in the Army. Also, not being in the army is looked down upon in Israel. Being in the army helps with college and civilian benefits. Arabs know this so they join, this is their country too.

Israeli Army is based on meritocracy unlike Arab armies where your tribe, religious sect and social status determines whether you would be General or a boot polisher to the General. No wonder they lose all wars.
Its why the only real armies in the middle east are Turkey, Isreal and Iran. Just look at the Iran-Iraq war. Saddam got weapons from US and USSR, had more tanks and jets but still lost to outdated and second hand american weapons used by the outnumber/out gunned Iranians. Arab armies have cultural and historical reasons for being as they are.

Socialization is an ignored aspect of military service. Israelis, more than most nations, are probably more aware since it incorporates larger swaths of women. Incorporating other groups voluntarily can be a force multiplier for society. Working as a team and taking responsibility for the team and the nation elevates the spirit and produces leaders. Those who stubbornly stand outside and watch will be sorely disappointed when the world changes before their eyes as it already is passing them by.

These young men are to be congratulated rather than condemned. School doesn't really emphasize that Arabs & Jews are from same historic roots, with same abjad root words in language (in Hebrew/Aramaic/Arabic). Both our peoples, among others like Kurds & Arameans & Assyrians, have experienced much of the same scenarios through history - whether Ottoman empire, Babylonian empire, or Assyrian empire. These facts are not talked about, not in most Arab communities and not even on mainstream international news like CNN or Sky.
In Israel, we celebrate both Hebrew culture, and Arab culture, in the streets, and in the mainstream popular culture. And even old people in the street, sitting on the sidewalk, always playing backgammon with their friends - and its always mizrahi Jews & Arabs playing together.
There are some division inciting politicians like that guy you saw in the video, saying emotion-changing rhetoric to manipulate people, but he can't fool everyone. We mostly have Arab Israeli idf volunteers because they feel part of our people, and definitely part of our country. These are both Druze & Christian & Muslim Arabs.
I am proud to be Israeli even more because I see Arab individuals as *no difference* to how I see Jew individuals - meaning that my environment has resulted in me thinking this way. but even more proud than that, when Arab brothers in the idf protect us, Jews. Equally protecting us as much as we protect them. Every one of those soldiers are 100% Israeli. When bombs drops from the sky, its both on their homes and on our homes. And we often share an apartment block building together anyway! and I can bet money that even in neighborhoods with racist Israelis (I'm sure there's some racists in every country), most of them will agree with everything I just said.
It's a cultural thing. Bedouins do it because they're patriotic. Christians do it because they see their brothers in Syria, Iraq and Egypt being slaughtered by Muslims. Druze are drafted and they're more patriotic than a lot of Jews. I'm in the Army and these reports don't take into consideration the different groups within the Arab community. Everyone isn't simply "Arab". There are Druze, Bedouins, Arab Muslims and Christians (many Christians don't identify as Arab). That plays into it more than anything. But I've never heard of an Arab Muslim, who is not a Bedouin, enlist in the Army.
Also, not being in the army is looked down upon in Israel. Being in the army helps with college and civilian benefits. Arabs know this so they join, this is their country too.

Then major hassan was ordered to Iraq as a psychologist. He tried to get out of the army. The army said no. Go to Iraq or go to jail. There’s a lot of people that are so all about supporting Hamas that they think that Arabs joining the IDF is a draft by force, but that’s not true. They’re all volunteers whether you’re a Muslim or Christian or any other religion, you have that right to enlist. While every other Jew is conscripted into the IDF. Muslims, Christians, many other religions volunteer. I remember this one former IDF veteran speaking about when he was a child growing up he was conflicted between whose side he’s really on. Is he in Israeli? Is he a Palestinian? Either way he asked the group of Arabs wearing the IDF equipment asking why do you fight for Israel? And they responded with a laugh saying this is our home. Our home is under attack. We must defend it and our families and friends from terrorists trying to destroy our home. Unlike Hamas that literally wants to do serious harm they don’t care who they hit. Literally it’s not just you know they’re hatred for Jews. In fact anyone they don’t care for human rights. In most cases, a lot of people don’t seem to pay attention this button, all the rocket attacks that it happened whether it’s the past or not many of them have claimed the lives of Muslims especially those living in Israel.
