Awesome video Chris! Quick tip for everyone watching, if you depress the brake pedal all the way down and hold it there with like a broom stick or something after you crack the brake hose loose, it'll stop the fluid from dripping out of the hose while you're working.
So I just stumbled across this video series. I’m going to go through all your videos to see what else I’ve missed. I am 100% doing this swap on my C5Z! And also, your tutorial is awesome. No steps missed!!!
Thanks Chris! I love the multi series video idea, more information is always better and your production is always so well done! I’m seriously considering this upgrade.
Just finished this upgrade last weekend. Indeed, they do not manufacture the calipers for both sides. They make the right rear and left front. Just buy two of each and swap the bleeder valves with the crossover tubes on one of each and it works great. Remember the bleeder valves go on top. Great video series!
Excellent upload Chris. If you haven't yet checked the price on the necessary new slide pins, you may be a bit shocked. I think they're a total of 28 of them. But hey, it's just a cost of this great upgrade. FWIW, you refer the this upgrade as C6 ZO6 upgrade. They also came on the C6 GS. Save the Wave.
Awesome video. I have done jobs like this many times when restoring my previous muscle cars as 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T convertible, 1971 Cuda`convertibles, Charger R/T etc that I have owned and restored through the years. I am orginally a Moparfreak : ), but I have alwas loved these Corvettes. Chris!!!! : ), The work you do and show how to do are awesome. - I am no yongster, but I always love too learn something new, and how to do work on newer cars like the Corvette C5. Thank you for doing these Videoes, they are great. - You are a very good teacher : )
I did this on my C4. But I had to buy special rear brackets / drum brake hubs to incorporate the parking brake. Especially with the manual transmission.
Hello. watching your youtube channel often. there is a lot of good video’s today's big question: I see that there is no difference between the right and left side of front and rear rotors. what about cooling the brakes. then the right side gets extra hot and you get an imbalance in the brakes What does the manufacturer say about this? Best regards Simon (Norway)
I think this upgrade is good if you are tracking the car.For street use just using highest quality pads, brake fluid and Z06 C6 wheels/tires will be all you really need.Of course you lose the bling factor.Entertaining and informative video(as usual) though
God loves yall and God bless y'all. Good video, I cant wait to get my C5Z. Can you do a vid on, whether it made a difference using the bigger brake kit?
Awesome series, and well communicated. Each step. I want to do this on my C5. I'm just curious, will the C5 front calipers fit on the rear? Thanks for all your informative C5 content.
I like how you give the size of tools needed for the project. I have a question what camera and software are you using for adding music over the footage?
Of course it is a worthwhile upgrade. If you have the money, Wilwood is probably better, but if you have that kind of money you probably wouldn’t have a C5.
@@mycorvettelife the Wilwood Spec Corvette kit can be had for around $1500 for the fronts. Comes with the 2 piece rotors and 6 pistons. I'm just curious if the stopping power or heat dissipation is enough to justify 2x the cost of what you've done here. (I really like what you've done here)
If you were removing the whole assembly anyway, couldn't you just skip the caliper removal and just take out the two 21mm bracket bolts and remove the caliper/bracket as one piece?
Great video Chris but some parts numbers they are not found in Rock Auto ...for ( LR .RF .LF. calipers ) and did you go with C6 (6.0L . or 7.0L) and which year you go with ?
Depending on availability they may not be shown. If a part is on back order, you will not find it on Rock Auto. You should be able to find it for any year 2006-2013. 7.0L
I enjoy your videos. I recently did this to my c5 base and have CCW SP500's 18" fronts and 19" rears, my rims clear the calipers on at the perimeter but they won't clear the calipers on the inside. What rims are you running?
Awesome video Chris! Quick tip for everyone watching, if you depress the brake pedal all the way down and hold it there with like a broom stick or something after you crack the brake hose loose, it'll stop the fluid from dripping out of the hose while you're working.
Nice tip!
@@mycorvettelife Spray the fluid everywhere...yup that's a great tip...….wow!!!
@@scnomad100yeah how tf does pressurizing the system keep it from doing anything but spraying fluid everywhere?
I think now is the time to think about adding the functional Z06 air extractors for the rear brakes. Very easy to install.

True
Great job. I'm going to keep watching and end up with a C5.
Go fast and stop quick with those huge brakes you are putting on. Nice disassembly of all the parts involved to get ready for the upgrade.
Thank you for making these videos, extremely grateful.
Thx Chris
I've been looking forward to this install. Great deal on the C6 Brake kit. Thanks
GREAT job Chris
You the man, Chris, great job, great video.

Those calipers have been discontinued. Hard to find online. Super expensive when you do find them.
Great video...super detail and specs...those new breaks are gonna be great!
This really helped me with my research, thank you for your video 👊🏼

Is there a torque spec for the slider bolts on the Z06 calipers.. I don't recall you mentioning it . Great video
I saved about$ 300 getting it on Amazon for everything
God loves yall and God bless y'all. Good video, I cant wait to get my C5Z. Can you do a vid on, whether it made a difference using the bigger brake kit?
Great video but I am having issues finding the front caliper 22799631 and 22799630
What are the part numbers for the SS brake lines? Also will they connect directly to the C5 lines or is some sort of adapter required
Did you address the increased front wheel diameter?
Chris, great job. What year is the ZO6 parts?
Went to Rock Auto and your part numbers don't pull up. Also to be a $2K+ upgrade now.
Awesome series, and well communicated. Each step. I want to do this on my C5. I'm just curious, will the C5 front calipers fit on the rear? Thanks for all your informative C5 content.
No
Good Vid, and you're right the videos I've seen are a little bit superficial😎

what do you think about running brembo 4 piston all the way around
great vid
awesome video as always!

IPhone and the Splice app.
Are you wheels 18x11 forgestar f14? With what offset to clear the c6z calipers? Thanks.
@My Corvette Life - Is this a worthwhile upgrade for a C5 Z06 or should I look at a Wilwood kit?
Of course it is a worthwhile upgrade. If you have the money, Wilwood is probably better, but if you have that kind of money you probably wouldn’t have a C5.

If you track your car regularly, I would say go with Wilwood. If not, don’t waste your money.
If you were removing the whole assembly anyway, couldn't you just skip the caliper removal and just take out the two 21mm bracket bolts and remove the caliper/bracket as one piece?
Yes you could.

Hi Chris, this C6 ZO6 brake kit is no longer available on RockAuto. Do you know where i can get the calipers, and rotors from? Thank you . Dominic
Go aftermarket - these are going to get increasingly expensive year by year....
Hey what’s going on, What size wheels do you need on the c5 after the upgrade?
Nice, thanks!
You and Dave (yellowcorvette) need to get together for a video.
I am enjoying your series. Can I use 17 inch front wheels with this setup?
No, 18” minimum.
That's dope. Unlike that new set-up. Question, you want to sell your old front calipers?
Already sold.
Very nice
What brand brake lines are those? Do you have a part number where I can order them?

Forgestar F14
@@mycorvettelife Deep concave or super deer concave?
Dont you have to go with bigger wheels also?
Yes, which I already have. 18” minimum front.
Was there a increase in brake performance?
I have no way to test factually, but I see no reason why it wouldn’t.
Mature
Can I use my bear rotors, with C6 Zo6 calipers?
Yes. Contact Bear to get to correct size.
Chris ,does this brake upgrade require a different master cylinder?
No
just bought some C5Z 17’s for the rear on my C6 for drag set up purposes, with those C6Z calipers clear in the rear??
I’m not sure, but I doubt it.
My Corvette Life damn i really thought they would clear since its just 4 pistons in the rear..
5/8" and 16mm are the same size. That's why you don't have a 16mm. Just FYI
Bummer...rock auto doesnt stock all the calipers anymore....
Go aftermarket - these are going to get increasingly expensive year by year....
What is the model of the QuickJack you use?
5000
@@mycorvettelife 5000SLX or 5000EXT?
SLX
What year of z06 are those rotors from?
They are brand new. Same as 06-13 Z06 or Grand Sport.
which brake set up is lighter (stock or z06)?
The c6z brakes are much heavier. Stock is the lightest setup. More mass equals less brake fade.
The heaviest part is the rotors. The C6Z rotors are very heavy, but if you can manage to afford 2 piece rotors you can save about 10lbs a piece.
I wasn’t hating on you...just some friendly teasing..🤣😂
This is why I'm starting with a C6 Z06. By time you upgrade everything to buy 'like' a C6 (so many other parts) you end up paying more...
But then you end up with a stock C6 like thousands of others.
@@mycorvettelife C6 Z06 and the value of one. Instead of the value of a C5 with C6 parts
BTW, not saying your route is bad just say why I wouldn't ;)
Looks like the left caliper is no longer available.
It is.

Yeah the left rear is gone all over the Internet 172-2575 is another part number but I cant find one in stock
