Man, I love rowing so much I've been doing it for over 10 years, but these videos always have a bunch of arrogant rowers complaining about form and technique. Did it ever occur to you that this is a novice crew? Were you a top tier rower when you first started? Don't be so critical.
Yeah. I'm moving to a place where rowing is popular, so I decided to watch a few vids. After looking at most of the comments, most of the people came off a little arrogant. At least when I see comments like yours, it leads me to believe that you're either an exception to the rule, or I've been getting the wrong impression though the wrong vids. Not that it matters lol

As a long time Coach, especially for new rowers. Most everyone at some time, even the BEST Olympians will "catch a crab". It will happen, it will reach up from the depths of water hell and snatch the person sometimes right out of their shoes. I've seen some pretty impressive ones over the years at the St.Catharines Rowing Club. Some training day derailments, some in races. Each one though memorable to the person on the receiving end of a butt handle coming to extract vengeance from the briny deep.
I've been rowing a consistent 4+ lineup for over 2 years now. Our 2k season started with 2 consecutive wins, then a tragic loss due to a boat-stopping crab. That lineup just got 4th at Nats in the U17W4+, the second-highest placement for our women's team ever.
it's kinda interesting bcs usually if people have an issue with set it's handle heights when it's sweep but their body angles are messing up the set more than the actual handle heights
I can't tell because of the image stabilization, but it seems to me that Starboard was pulling high on the drive. That may have made it difficult for Port to enter cleanly. Just a guess.
This happened to my friend during a regatta, only sad part is that his boat was the A boat and not whatever C boat mess that was. Nice try from them tho, sounded like they really cared
Watch no 3 blade on right......goes shallow first stroke then always much deeper than all the others for next several strokes......along comes a rough patch and catches his difficult finish.......easily done. Avoid going deep! Nobody hurt hopefully.
The gopro shakes because of its position on the bow. We just filmed with the camera in the same spot looked like boat was not set but, it was rock solid.

This happened to a crew mate of mine in a wooden four. He went straight out through the side of the boat, taking it with him.

Obviously this is a novice crew, but shouldn’t they get really good at low rate stuff before they do race pace?
I don't get how people get ejected from crabs. I've caught some big crabs and haven't been flung out... just feather and muscle the oar up.
Benjamin C if the boats going fast enough when they catch, the oar can literally fling out of your hand and like push you out of the boat
