Glad you got lucky under the moonlight with Michael Shainblum!
Or....... did he get lucky ;)
You might be getting tired of such comments, but the reality is that, as photographer since I was 10 - in all formats from the AE-1 to field 4x5 to the world of wonderful modernity (I work(ed) in tech).... I found you, here, in Tacoma, via the adorable reserve of Heaton.
This is clear:
You have an exceptional talent to spare, both as a landscape superdude to an wonderful story-teller videographer.
I might not be be be able to overstate how much I enjoy your posts. Simply, they are superb.
Absolutely aquiver to watch you, as well as adore Heaton.
You’re simply a joy to watch.

Ever need a place to crash en route to Rainier (I see it out my window daily) or Oregon and all points south. Just signal and and my door is open to you and any horde you might wish to bring. Just crash and make art.
-
In my better years, I’m alive to tell you the West Coast Trail is simply evil. Pure devilish and a horror beyond anything relative to just about anywhere in the world I’ve ever been. Nepal included. Brutal.
Yet, there is that orgasmic waterfall along that route. I suppose the dead, beached whale is long gone, but is the beach hamburger joint that was there in the 90’s, accessible only by foot or boat still there?
Don’t know.
I expect you to shoot that waterfall and show me!
If not, I’ll have to kill you.
Hugs to you. A hug to Heaton.
Keep on keeping on.
You’re a bright spot in a sea of grey, my dear man.
Rich
Thanks foe the kind words Rich though I doubt I'll ever do the Wct
Gavin. Offer stands. Really.
Feel free to crash anytime with anyone.

WCT? My lingering memory was all the medivac helicopters rescuing all those with broken skulls and compound fractures. The thing is an absolute nightmare.and a war zone for the insane.
Yea. Don’t do it. It’s so not worth it.
.... but there is a magical oceanfront waterfall 2/3rds in. Pretty cool, but not worth dying over!
Ironically, I got hurt on the way back on a boat to Renfrew and was ambulanced to Victoria to sew my finger back together - a classic survive-the-war and get hit by a car after coming home.
Love your channel. Tell Heaton he has to up his game.
Your talent is immense.
You are a hoot of a a guy,
One day...,,
Be well. Do well.
Ya’ sure have the goods.
Rich
fototripper btw: Recently was in Glencoe. Geeze. Scotland is wet with wonder. Just watched your bluebell clip (not Scotland) .... .but absolutely wonderful.
Forwarding your channel to everyone I know. Keep it up. So great.
..
You fail your way to success not the other way round. I think that's a point that is lost on most folks. Nice job Gavin!!
You crazy bastard, do not fall!
Yup....that made my stomach queezey looking over that ledge.
Watched this oldie on my 1st lunch break of 2023! Thanks for the escape 😊
I took a break and now I'm back and the first thing I see is... Appropriate footwear... just... just beautiful!
Please never stop doing your videos!!!!
I love sunset photography. SO off course I had to watch this.
Brilliant video and great shots! I was going to suggest that you should have pranked Michael with a big foot costume... But with that 400ft drop, Maybe not such a good idea 🤔🤣
Fabulous as usual gavin,,,,, lovely composite at the end mate,,, well done you, thanks, Bob 😎
I can't believe you got to go on a shoot with Michael Shainblum! You are so lucky. His work is awesome. Totally epic. Did you have to pay to have a one on one session with him? I bet you learned a lot from him on that hike. So lucky.
I always wonder how hell you get down in the dark from such death defying cliffs. We should call you Gavin Hardcore. A superb set of images as always. Your Mum would be calling your Dad to get that slipper out if she knew you were on that edge. That last image was a belter!!
She did get the slipper out. We had headlamps.
Love da 'Pills'
Very entertaining and even informative 🤣 should have your own TV show
I was just about to write comment of using light pollution-filters on nightphotography when the lighting/moon-photo appeared. That is just awesome!
wow you get the shots buddy and I'm so entertained watching !!!!
The 'Compensation Shot' is an absolute WINNER! It is awesome.
Wauw, that lghtning/moon/mountain shot is epic./
These 2 are hilarious 🤣
Really enjoyed this episode Mr. Hardcastle, you really do have some talent for this sort of thing, carry on my man!
The only thing missing on the moon/flash pic is the dancing unicorn on the peak. This will make the best heavy metal t-shirt.
The lightning shot may look good in B&W. Great video!
I think your lightening shot looks better than any Milky Way shot that I've seen to date. Beautiful location, great light, excellent video.
Thanks Jerry :)
I love how different our shots came out from from this evening! Killer work as always man!
You two are becoming a pretty good team. The grump master flex is going to get jealous!
Dude your 'hugh' at 04:01 is the best. Phasma.
That shot is unreal. Dope
I love great Craic and thats what you bring in your videos!!! Love it and keep the content coming!! Kaz x
I can't concentrate after point you came to the top. Thanks!
Killer shots.
Simply majestiqua!!!!
Nice photo fototripper!!
Beautiful shot gav 😅
I'm needing that song at 10:20!!! So good.
My raisins shrivelled a little bit more when you got close to the edge. Man I freak with heights I would be crawling around on my hands and knees haha
I think Michael has a bright future in comedy. He is hanging with the right crowd! He makes a great foil for you and has a few great
ad libs of his own.
Success from failure. Remember old Winston’s words..... “Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm” but you managed to pull the rabbit from the hat....loved this video, as usual informative, fun and creative. You make me nervous waving the camera about on the edge of the cliffs..... get vertigo watching it..... thank you Sir Hardcatle
Good one, Gavin! Pretty epic. I've been to Smith Rock, but not to the top of that ridge. Spectacular viewpoint.
Entertaining and educational!!! What more could you ask for? Well done!
It was almost as if our voices were synchronised at the 'tripod shot' As I said 'Oh no Gavin' with my hands on my mouth, you answered!!! Then I thought well if anything goes over the edge it will be the tripod and camera, not my boy.Beautiful shots.
hahahahaahah I knew it!
Totally refreshingly new Photography vlog for me, not at all what I've been used to watching totally loved it!! oh and amazing pics bud!!
First, thanks for the great laughs. Love the composite. I totally understand the comments re: less than stellar photos for the night. I've watched the weather forecasts for days, stared at different weather sites all showing clear skies at night. I'll drive to Maine, stay over night in hotel, walk outside around 2 AM to see ALL clouds. The weather reports still says clear skies. I live on the east coast in Mass so hard to see beyond the light pollution. So, head to Maine, enjoy a great diner and good beer. When you do a capture a great image you cherish the moments.
New to your blogs or vlogs, vids!!
Love watching pros like yourselfs,i learn so much and now have a bloody good laugh at the same time🤣
Just what the world needs right now!
Outstanding work😃
All the best and stay safe👍
Yeah yeah yeah nice shots and all that but man that chocolate bar looked stunning Gavin.
It were brill!
Even with all that light pollution, you got an epic shot. Very cool!
Came across your channel a few days ago , can't stop watching really good, very professional ....... sometimes lol keep them coming.
Good advice about being outside to catch the magic. Those of us who fish don’t catch anything in our living rooms.
Nice Video! I like the longer length of the video.
The “invade you personal space” part, cracked me up 😅
Great video, and amazing shot!
Wowee, good job on the pano.
"Once we got a little higher..." Haha, yeah me too Gavin.. me too.
Great fun watching the video as usual!
That's life. Mostly things we plan hard do not happen as planned but things that do work out usually are unplanned. Great series! Happy shooting!!
Gorgeous stuff as always!
Informative and entertaining 👍🏻
juicy AF! another great vid
Gorgeous!!
Great final composite image Gavin! Glad you rememberd to take your head torch LOL :)
Even without the milkway, it was really photogasmic ❤
Gavin - thanks for showing the RAW files and the failures too. Glad you showed a little of the decent after the shoot - I almost spewed my coffee on the keyboard with your "Makes me twitchy... Twitchy like a rabbits whiskers." I've done that hike in the daylight and I might have just slept at the top with the rattlesnakes.
What a beautiful place! And great pictures. Wish I could go there!
Damn that was awesome killer shots you got there bro ! I am very impressed
I'm going there next week, glad you did for me all home work :)
Really, really nice composition man! So much joy to watch your videos. cheers!
LOL!! I now know my own diagnosis. I have to ask my M.D. if I also have FASMA. Great video and photography as always! HILARYMOUS!!
Thank you for sharing
Love your videos!
The Yorkshire photo God does it again! Maybe give the Milky way pics a break, how about Mars or a Galaxy or a Topic.😃
ugh topic!!!!!!!
📸
Ha ha! The Frankenstein photo was amazing. So glad neither of you fell off that cliff edge; My palms were sweating.
Have you ever done the masking trick where you block out part of the shot to reduce the light levels, best to use a fuzzy edge and giggle it a bit to blend in the edge.
I hear you about often failing to get the shot you go out for. So often, I get a totally different shot, but that's the fun of it for me. I tend to think of it as there's a shot in your head that gets you out of the door, but it's never* the one you come home with.
*maybe 0.01% of the time...
True
Don’t think I’d call the shot with city glow a failure. It’s a great shot of a city on the horizon at night under the stars. It may not be the shot you wanted or were hoping for, but it’s a cool of what it is.
Gavin, fantastic moon image. So different from the typical landscape photo. Thank you for sharing.
Just when I thought I had heard it all, out comes ..."licking these lovely clouds"
Ok Gavin I'm proud of you, you held it together longer than I expected when Michael was doing the whole "Am I in you personal space" bit.
I'm getting more professional by the day....
I need to try the photo stacking. You make it look easy
Boom! 30k subs - YAY! Terrific moonlit image. The post-processing was ridiculous. So glad you got lucky with Michelle on a mountain top. And finally, I'm still waiting for your advanced processing course - announced in 2017. ;)
Still working on it Jim ;)
Great video Gavin, Stunning images as always that moon lit image is tasty 👌
Thanks again for a great tutorial, one point the light pollution you see is from Redmond about 3 miles away not Bend at about 35miles away
Amazing shots very entertaining video.
What an awesome place!! Great video, once more!!
Your videos are a step above everything else on TH-cam. Funny, informative and always filled with stunning images.
Entertaining, informativly and funny, thats what I want to see. Congrats! Liked and subscribed.....! Greetings from austria (where no kangaroos are...)
We need to set you up with a GoFundMe site for an 'L' bracket. lol
And I believe the magic happens when you're looking for something else. What a beautiful image with the lightning! So moody and epic. There's something to be said for moonlight photography as much as all the other astro stuff. No failures, just unplanned epicness. Glad you made it off the mountain safely.
Love your successes as well as your failures. Looking forward to your and Michaels tutorial.
Fasthma love that. Great images as well.
I'm afraid to say that, maybe my professor is also a subscriber 😆, I'm now at the lecture but I'm watching with the headphones secretly, I'm in a big joy right now 🤫😆
Your Prof is clearly a discerning character with impeccable taste.
@@fototripper She is so nice actually, but I couldn't resist the overwhelming desire of watching the video 🤦🏻♂️😆
Always make me laugh
Outstanding work Gavin love your videos liked amd subscribed!
Now that's really "JUICY", Gavin!!!!
great episode. I would have fainted on the edge of that cliff, which would make a great time lapse falling to the ground. Your shots that you did get were amazing. I appreciate you sharing the fails with the epic shots. It can be so discouraging when the time in the field is limited by other life stuff. Thanks for making these great videos.
Absolutely beautiful photography. Nice colors and stunning composition :)
I normally dont comment but the image captured at @10:14 is absolutely stunning. Nice work!
Awesome content you make, really like you videos .. so inspiring :)
he moonshot with the lightning is absolutely stunning! VERY well done!
What an amazing place. Thnx Gavin.
Oh man......Are you not on instagram? Your photos are so Amazing!!! I think you'd be really really popular there if you post regularly🙏
This is my current favorite channel on youtube, every video is learning and entertaining! Always makes my day better.
Oh, dear! You have won me over to the dark side of making composites. I think your perceived “failures” resulted in a huge composite success: well done!
Juicy indeed!! Photography, amazing, entertainment trezmendous!!!
