For me this song is incredibly nostalgic. "wouldn't it be nice if we were older" refers to the feeling one often has as a child, when you can't wait to grow up and be able to do whatever you want. The song almost sounds like the singer is quoting themselves from when they were young saying "wouldn't it be nice if we were older", remembering how they couldn't wait to grow up Now that they've grown up they realize childhood wasn't so bad, because as an adult you may have freedom but at the same time you have all these responsibilities that start stressing you out. The singer is remembering how they felt back then, when they couldn't wait to grow up and they didn't have any responsibilities or stressors. To me the song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of nostalgia.

You decide to go in, and it closes behind you. The first thing you’re greeted with is a futuristic city. You get frightened and run until you’re out of there. As you approach the city you once called home, as you expect to see another futuristic city, you find the ruins of a disaster. It looks like an earthquake or something hit. A few large buildings are still standing. As you get closer, you realize that they are starting to crumble. There are vines now crawling up the buildings, and you decide to stay and explore. The one place you were trying to escape, that you took for granted, now a pile of garbage. You climb into the least crumbled building that you can find, and you sit down on the floor, against a wall that still has some faded magenta wallpaper. You realize that you can’t ever go back. This is it. You’re trapped here forever. . .
