Nashville-based mix engineer, Jon Blass sat down with ADAM Audio to give a rundown of how he mixes Grammy-nominated gospel records. Gospel records can be some of the most challenging music to mix, with dense layers of instrumentation and elements from horns to keys to strings and vocals, all needing to have a distinct place in the track. Dive deep with this fantastic mixing masterclass with Jon as he walks through each and every layer of the song, with his mixing tips and tricks. Jon uses the ADAM Audio A7X in his Nashville-based mixing studio along with the ADAM Audio Sub10, allowing him to trust every frequency in the spectrum.

ADAM Audio was founded in March 1999 in Berlin. Since then the company has been developing, manufacturing and distributing loudspeakers in the field of Professional Audio.
The development of the X-ART (eXtended Accelerating Ribbon Technology) tweeter based on the 1960’s invention of the Air Motion Transformer by Oskar Heil was largely responsible for the company’s founding. Producing sound not with a piston-like diaphragm as is done in most of the loudspeakers that are on the market, but using a pleated diaphragm that is capable of moving the air 4 times faster than the folds themselves are moving was the appealing idea behind it all. The achieved results were intriguing and gave ample reason for moving forward.

Wow Adam Audio this was great!! Blass is THE ABSOLUTE BEST and has made my music sound great for many years!! Keep the content coming!!!
Thank you so much for the feedback! :)
...and I love your music @OfficialMyronButler. It was great to have you in Swaziland a few years back. You had come with the Bishop TD Jakes and I was on the drums for the local choir from Swaziland. Would really appreciate to connect with you. Much love
🔥🔥🔥
Beautiful
Love your music!!
Finally! Gospel comes to the scene! Thank goodness.... we had to put up with all that crap from the other genres...NOW WE ARE TALKING MUSIC AND THE HEIGHT OF EXCELLENCE! Phew!
Thank you for watching John!
Gospel engineers are underrated. Been loving them from the Randy Poole and JohnJascz engineering they did for Commissioned back in the day.
Gospel is some of the most challenging music to mix! These engineers are extremely skilled at their craft.
Blass use to be John Jaszcz assistant engineer before he went on his own. So he studied from one of the greats!
that Commission stuff is mixed flawlessly. John Jascz is the man!!!
The most interesting thing is that the use of plugins was very minimalistic compared to other mixing tutorials i've seen on youtube that i almost felt he was hiding some sauce from us but then the mix speaks for itself.
That let’s you know it was recorded very well!!
All of these mix videos are fake they get pre mixed stems and add one plugin to them.
That’s what separates the top folk. They get it correct from the beginning. You hear it from the best all time time. Get it correct at the source.
@@soulsweet17 that's what professional means. I do mix prep: de click, clip gain, do (gentle) surgical eq, bounce things down to a clean session with less tracks and start crafting the sound... The "problems" have been fixed before I start worrying about the aesthetics of the mix.
I have been searching for Gospel mixes and now I am here. Thanks goodness
Its rare I EVER watch an hour long video, but its great to watch someone expertly mixing this complex music that I love..kudos to JB for letting us get this sneak peak! I both learned and was affirmed.
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching.
The best engineer ever💯💯

Thanks for watching!
@Warren Roberts Ah really? Well I guess I don’t know his sound that much.
Great video. Lately I've been taking this road more & more of being accurate and fine tuned with my plugins and my mixing decision. You did that well and the mix sounds great. Anyway... I'm here to ask a question 😃 I wonder of do you automate the tracks and busses? I see you have the pro tools console and if I have to guess those automations were not drawn by hand. If I'm right what's your technique of nailing them? And if I'm wrong how did you draw all this fine automations by hand (?) and still had any perspective of what you want the volume to actually be... I'm asking cus I just mixing a whole band show and had very big problems with those automations... Everytime I print the mix I noticed something else jumping out. I don't have faders but considering to buy if it will help with that intuitive access to volume control. But I heard people do it by hand usually... I studied music production and met someone with automaton like yours and asked him how he did it and he said all by hand and as you understand me trying it wasn't so succuss full... Would love a good tip of how to nail those tiny automations to make everything sound coherent and cohesive through out the whole song with all it's dynamic parts. Now I know I post it on adams audio page so I the person who is the video can't see it can you do me a favor and give me his contact so I can ask him straight?
If anyone read all this, thank you for the time 😅
