Lion Dancers Chinese Lunar New Year

The Kings Shops in Waikoloa celebrated Chinese Lunar New Year on February 1, 2025 The traditional lion dance blessing was performed by the Yau Gong Lion Dancers. Watch the Lion Dance and "Picking the Greens", featuring a tradition of the lion acting out by eating the lettuce hanging from the shops doorways. When the lion eats the lettuce and spits it back out at the business owners and audience, that symbolizes a blessing of wealth and prosperity in the new year. A red envelope is also given to bring prosperity and is often hidden in the leafs of the greens to pay the dancers for their entertaining cultural performance and traditional blessing.
