This is very interesting because it all comes together with “el día de muertos” which is November 2nd. I recently learned a little more about it in how some people start on Oct 28 through Nov 2nd. Every day has a different meaning. Im Hispanic but I didn’t not grow up with this tradition but I think is so fascinating. It all intertwined in the different cultures. The soul cake reminds me of “el pan de muerto”. This will be my first year celebrating “el día de muertos” so I have done and continue to do research. It all makes sense now. Hi Vanessa, I think it's so interesting as well as specifically because once again there was something with the Aztec culture that would venerate and honor their dead ancestors and of course income the Catholic conquistadores and brought with them the celebration of All saints Day and all souls day. That's why Day of the Dead falls on All saints thing. I think they're so many cultures going all the way back to the ancient Egyptians that revered death and honored their ancestors. So I think it's just a natural human occurrence as a show of love and respect for those who have passed away. Thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed your video Annie. It was fun to learn more about the origin of Halloween. One thing that I always wondered about was in the movie Meet Me In St Louis when on Halloween they threw flour in peoples faces. I have never found anything about doing that.

Very interesting video. Some facts I didn't know but alot of where Halloween originated i knew. I was a bible student for many years and so I studied about where various holidays got their origin. Its rather fascinating and the funny thing is people just celebrate things not knowing why. Snyway I love the Halloween house and the vintage children are so cute. I love all the vintage things including clothing. Was a fun time thanks for making it so interesting.
How fun! Loved the creepy story telling and all the crafts. Was interested in making the pumpkin man but was unsure of what you were using to make him.
I am so sorry. I think moving forward if I do storytelling again I'll start with the description of the items I'm using for the pumpkin man. I simply use the little pumpkin containers that they have at the Dollar tree and they also had in the makeup section. These little coffee cups fake little coffee cups with the facial sponges inside and that's what I used for his body and I use the top of that coffee cup for his hat. I hope that helps and I'm so sorry once again, but I thank you so much for pointing that out. That helps me make a better video next time

Wonderful video, absolutely love your channel 💜🌸 By the way you pronounced Celts perfectly the second time you introduced the name. It’s just like Cat or Canadian or cookie.
So the photo or the vintage Halloween paper? I got that from timu. It was a whole set and the little iron that I'm using. I like to dry decoupage I guess. And what I do is I put the decoupage or the mod podge on the material let it just dry for or set for a minute or two. So it's not 22 sticky and then I put the paper on top and use a very low heat iron to stick it in place. That way there's less chance of wrinkles. Thanks for watching

Hi there, so for the cappuccino I do have an espresso machine but that just makes the espresso coffee to do the foam as you saw there. I have this little container I guess little picture and it has the foaming element to it and that's I just heat up the milk in the microwave for like 20 30 seconds and then I create the foam with the little frother and that's it. Great video, love your stuff, but as a Welsh girl born and bread, I can assure you that the celts were not from england, they were the Saxons, the celts lived in Wales, Ireland, Scotland, and gallway in france, the Saxons faught against the celts, any way, love Halloween and thanks so much for your great video! ❤❤❤

They sent it to me and what I do is I put the mod podge on the wood first let it dry a little bit and then I reactivate the glue with heat so that I just put the paper on top and that's it. Well......not quite. As much as I love modern Samhain, the truth is, to say Halloween’s connections to ancient Samhain, or anything “ancient” for that matter, are, at best, extremely tenuous, would be grossly overstating the facts. A direct connection between Halloween and Samhain has never been proven. Least of all with any legitimate satisfactory evidence to back the claim. Halloween just does not have the “pagan precedent” so many people seem to desperately want it to. What is definitively known about Samhain (that's SAH-wen, BTW) would fit on about a page and a half of paper. What gets passed around the Internet as “history” and “fact” is mostly speculation and utter nonsense. The primary source of what is known comes from the books of the Ulster Cycle. By most historical accounts, Samhain proper was preceded by three days, and followed by three days. In some accounts it’s only a three-day celebration (not a seven day). Samhain seems to have been a time to prepare for winter, to welcome in the dark half of the year, cull the herds and celebrate the final harvest of the year. Two particular activities that these old Gaelic texts seem to suggest were very popular at Samhain were…. horse racing and drinking. That sounds a lot like many European holidays today from October-January. The texts also speak of it as a time to pay tithings, gather taxes, and the holding of a judicial assembly (much like the Manx ‘Tynwald Day’). There is zero evidence that it was a religious observance, that it entailed any ritual, that it was a celebration of the dead, or that it opened the Celtic year. Anything else asserted to be associated with Samhain is either pure wishful thinking or absolute nonsense. There is zero evidence the Celts ever donned costumes of animal pelts to ward off evil spirits. Costuming for trick-or-treat comes from about 1930's America. The concept of trick-or-treat dates to about then as well. It has no ties to mumming, guising or souling. Historical similarity does not equate to historical sameness. When it comes to Halloween, there is no continued ancient tradition. As a sort of aside - given it was the end of harvest and it was a time for people to gather for various assemblies, it stands to reason, they would have celebrated the harvest with feasting (especially since one historically attested activity was drinking in excess). The idea of a Thanksgiving-like holiday combined with celebrating the changing of the seasons is a great analogy! You're spot on with the origin of the bonfire. The bones of animals culled for the winter would be burned. An interesting question that unfortunately may never have an answer is were the bones burned as a way of honouring the animal who had given its life so that people could eat and survive the winter, or was it just a convenient way to dispose of the remains of the animal. I'd like to think it was the former, but we'll never know. As you may know, Samhain is the name for the entire month of November in the Gaelic languages (Irish, Scottish and Manx) An interesting tidbit is that in Welsh, the name for November is Tachwedd, an old word meaning 'slaughter' - the month when livestock were culled for the upcoming winter. Most of what is celebrated today as modern Samhain comes solely from the myths, legends and lore that have surrounded Samhain for well over 1.000 years. horseracing and (presumably) feasting sound great, I'm not sure I'd survive a long judicial assembly, or people standing in long queues to pay their tithes to the local chief :)
Thank you so much for all this information and exactly as you said there are few connections that are written regarding Samhain and Halloween - but there are some ties to the Celts and especially the Irish that did bring some of the traditions with them in the 1800' migration to the US - but that was more to do with the traditions with Catholicism. As I mentioned the celebration did resemble more like Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. I didn't mention that they dressed in animal pelts but it is mentioned the use of soot to disguise themselves or just to give the others a good fright now and then. I did say however that he Christians took over the feasting holiday and tacked it on to their feast for the saints and All Souls Day. They did include a ritual of dressing like the saints but that was more of taken from the Roman rites of Parentalia and Lumeria as I understand. Also, I included the story of Mrs. Krebs because she is the one who brought about the way we celebrate Halloween in America today. Halloween is now more American than any other culture though other countries are joining in on the fun. My main objective with this was to dispel the rumors of witchcraft or evil associated with Halloween except for those we have instilled into the Holiday ourselves here in the US, thanks in a big way to Hollywood. Thank you again do you have a channel I would love to learn more. Thanks for sharing this with me and my viewers as it added to the demystification of the misconceptions around Halloween. great history lesson - would love to know where you got the photo - and was that an iron you used please? this was at the 13.23 mark - tyvm :)
So the photo or the vintage Halloween paper? I got that from timu. It was a whole set and the little iron that I'm using. I like to dry decoupage I guess. And what I do is I put the decoupage or the mod podge on the material let it just dry for or set for a minute or two. So it's not 22 sticky and then I put the paper on top and use a very low heat iron to stick it in place. That way there's less chance of wrinkles. Thanks for watching

Hi there, so for the cappuccino I do have an espresso machine but that just makes the espresso coffee to do the foam as you saw there. I have this little container I guess little picture and it has the foaming element to it and that's I just heat up the milk in the microwave for like 20 30 seconds and then I create the foam with the little frother and that's it. They sent it to me and what I do is I put the mod podge on the wood first let it dry a little bit and then I reactivate the glue with heat so that I just put the paper on top and that's it. Well......not quite.
As much as I love modern Samhain, the truth is, to say Halloween’s connections to ancient Samhain, or anything “ancient” for that matter, are, at best, extremely tenuous, would be grossly overstating the facts. A direct connection between Halloween and Samhain has never been proven. Least of all with any legitimate satisfactory evidence to back the claim.
Halloween just does not have the “pagan precedent” so many people seem to desperately want it to.
What is definitively known about Samhain (that's SAH-wen, BTW) would fit on about a page and a half of paper. What gets passed around the Internet as “history” and “fact” is mostly speculation and utter nonsense. The primary source of what is known comes from the books of the Ulster Cycle. By most historical accounts, Samhain proper was preceded by three days, and followed by three days. In some accounts it’s only a three-day celebration (not a seven day). Samhain seems to have been a time to prepare for winter, to welcome in the dark half of the year, cull the herds and celebrate the final harvest of the year. Two particular activities that these old Gaelic texts seem to suggest were very popular at Samhain were…. horse racing and drinking. That sounds a lot like many European holidays today from October-January. The texts also speak of it as a time to pay tithings, gather taxes, and the holding of a judicial assembly (much like the Manx ‘Tynwald Day’). There is zero evidence that it was a religious observance, that it entailed any ritual, that it was a celebration of the dead, or that it opened the Celtic year.
Anything else asserted to be associated with Samhain is either pure wishful thinking or absolute nonsense.
There is zero evidence the Celts ever donned costumes of animal pelts to ward off evil spirits. Costuming for trick-or-treat comes from about 1930's America. The concept of trick-or-treat dates to about then as well. It has no ties to mumming, guising or souling. Historical similarity does not equate to historical sameness. When it comes to Halloween, there is no continued ancient tradition.
As a sort of aside - given it was the end of harvest and it was a time for people to gather for various assemblies, it stands to reason, they would have celebrated the harvest with feasting (especially since one historically attested activity was drinking in excess). The idea of a Thanksgiving-like holiday combined with celebrating the changing of the seasons is a great analogy!
You're spot on with the origin of the bonfire. The bones of animals culled for the winter would be burned. An interesting question that unfortunately may never have an answer is were the bones burned as a way of honouring the animal who had given its life so that people could eat and survive the winter, or was it just a convenient way to dispose of the remains of the animal. I'd like to think it was the former, but we'll never know.
As you may know, Samhain is the name for the entire month of November in the Gaelic languages (Irish, Scottish and Manx) An interesting tidbit is that in Welsh, the name for November is Tachwedd, an old word meaning 'slaughter' - the month when livestock were culled for the upcoming winter.
Most of what is celebrated today as modern Samhain comes solely from the myths, legends and lore that have surrounded Samhain for well over 1.000 years. horseracing and (presumably) feasting sound great, I'm not sure I'd survive a long judicial assembly, or people standing in long queues to pay their tithes to the local chief :)
Thank you so much for all this information and exactly as you said there are few connections that are written regarding Samhain and Halloween - but there are some ties to the Celts and especially the Irish that did bring some of the traditions with them in the 1800' migration to the US - but that was more to do with the traditions with Catholicism. As I mentioned the celebration did resemble more like Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve. I didn't mention that they dressed in animal pelts but it is mentioned the use of soot to disguise themselves or just to give the others a good fright now and then. I did say however that he Christians took over the feasting holiday and tacked it on to their feast for the saints and All Souls Day. They did include a ritual of dressing like the saints but that was more of taken from the Roman rites of Parentalia and Lumeria as I understand. Also, I included the story of Mrs. Krebs because she is the one who brought about the way we celebrate Halloween in America today.
Halloween is now more American than any other culture though other countries are joining in on the fun. My main objective with this was to dispel the rumors of witchcraft or evil associated with Halloween except for those we have instilled into the Holiday ourselves here in the US, thanks in a big way to Hollywood.
