Not really. The abbey has been “rebuilt” many times (meaning drastic reforms to the new styles) but the builder was King St. Edward the Confessor, who’s also an ancestor of Edward III.
I do family tree research as part of my job and I wish more folks were as down to earth and engaged with the history as Danny Dyer. Most folks who use our services are incredibly posh and entitled . You would not believe the number of people who yelled at me when I told them they aren't descended from aristocracy :(

Well, if u are, then u too are related to Edward III. It was proven several years ago, that every single person with just 1 drop of British blood is in some way or another descended from Edward III. Its been proven impossible for any person of British blood to NOT be descended from Edward III. The only revelation here is them constructing the family tree.

My father has been doing my family tree and we are descendants of William the conqueror, Edward the 1st ect. there was also a king of Spain, a king of France and loads or knights in there. Was fascinating to see it all
I found out that I was directly related to Charlemagne by way of my English ancestors who came to Virginia in the 1620s. From there, I traced my family through several English nobility, then French nobility, and eventually Charlemagne. He would be my (a large number of greats) great grandfather.

I’ve been researching our family for over 20 years. George Washington our first president is a distant cousin. My grandfather died when I was just 8 years old. He always said his own dad was a only child and was brought over from Hungary in 1908. Thank god for the internet as I found my great grandfathers ship manifest…… he was not a only child. He had nine brothers and sisters all listed on the ships passenger list. I also hired a Hungarian genealogist who went to The Hungarian document center in Arad. He got birth certificates/marriage certificates and tons of family information for BOTH my great grandad and grandmother! I would of never been able to do any of this as I can’t read Hungarian or even knew where to look. I am so thankful to have met a honest professional genealogist! ❤ Looking forward to visiting Budapest someday soon! ❤

But of course films & other media take huge "poetic licence" to make their narrative, so reading & research will reveal more of the facts. I enjoy reading about the "War of the Roses", (the Plantangenent dynasty fighting & feuding, etc ) & I read somewhere that George R Martin (?) used this as the inspiration for his "Game of Thrones" books & tv series, etc. Being English, we did learn about some of this at school, but later generations may have had a totally different curriculum. But yes, I enjoy it a lot.
My husband and I both descend from King Edward III to. It is really a common thing. Many of the noble descendants in America descend from him. Lots of Americans have noble roots. I found common ancestors to link me to Princess Diana. There is so many Royals we connect to. Don't feel so special. Tons of Americans have these roots. You are not alone.
If you think about it, everyone who has European ancestry has some ties with royal blood. For my ancestry, my paternal great grandmother was a direct descendant (through her father’s line) of Charlemagne and our ancestors where cousins of William the Conqueror. Also, my grandmother is a descendant of the Stewards, then the Tudors along with the Yorks (which is also a branch of the Plantagenets). So I guess you can say Danny Dyer and I are distant cousins 😂
I am descended from Edward III and like I have told family and friends there is no throne or castle waiting for us nor a vast treasure or a title. I saw a story that said there are around 270,000 people descended from just Edward III in the UK alone. Which makes sense. I am descended from three of Edwards sons (John, Lionel, and Thomas), and it does amaze me but again they were just the people that "did it" and made some babies before either dying from illness or palace intrigue. Danny's life is NOT going to change in anyway much like mine didn't. But it is nice to see another distant cousin!
This means danny also descends from two Anglo-Saxon royal houses as well. Edward III mother (Isabella of france) was a descendant of Harold Godwinson through his daughter Gytha, and the plantagenets descended from the house of Wessex through the marriage of Henry I and Edith of Scotland.
I am also a direct descendant. It brought me to tears because I had the same reaction. I experienced that same moment of disbelief and awe. It, too, gave me more confidence. I am also descended of slaves, Jews, and Native American Royalty. It's a beautiful thing. We are ALL somebody in this tapestry of life. Thanks for adding this.

My father has been doing my family tree and we are descendants of William the conqueror, Edward the 1st ect. there was also a king of Spain, a king of France and loads or knights in there. Was fascinating to see it all
I found out that I was directly related to Charlemagne by way of my English ancestors who came to Virginia in the 1620s. From there, I traced my family through several English nobility, then French nobility, and eventually Charlemagne. He would be my (a large number of greats) great grandfather.
My Fleets/Fleet family are defended from Plantagenets too. My Fleets are a Virginia family based in King & Queen County.

I’ve been researching our family for over 20 years. George Washington our first president is a distant cousin. My grandfather died when I was just 8 years old. He always said his own dad was a only child and was brought over from Hungary in 1908. Thank god for the internet as I found my great grandfathers ship manifest…… he was not a only child. He had nine brothers and sisters all listed on the ships passenger list. I also hired a Hungarian genealogist who went to The Hungarian document center in Arad. He got birth certificates/marriage certificates and tons of family information for BOTH my great grandad and grandmother! I would of never been able to do any of this as I can’t read Hungarian or even knew where to look. I am so thankful to have met a honest professional genealogist! ❤ Looking forward to visiting Budapest someday soon! ❤

@Tony Montes. .I know I wondered that. Perhaps, he didn't do a lot of conventional schooling, because when I was at school this type of subject was seriously studied. But maybe he hated history and didn't bother paying attention to it? Where as I love it (I admit the agricultural & industrial revolutions were a bit hard going & could put someone off for life !)

But of course films & other media take huge "poetic licence" to make their narrative, so reading & research will reveal more of the facts. I enjoy reading about the "War of the Roses", (the Plantangenent dynasty fighting & feuding, etc ) & I read somewhere that George R Martin (?) used this as the inspiration for his "Game of Thrones" books & tv series, etc. Being English, we did learn about some of this at school, but later generations may have had a totally different curriculum. But yes, I enjoy it a lot.

My husband and I both descend from King Edward III to. It is really a common thing. Many of the noble descendants in America descend from him. Lots of Americans have noble roots. I found common ancestors to link me to Princess Diana. There is so many Royals we connect to. Don't feel so special. Tons of Americans have these roots. You are not alone.
If you think about it, everyone who has European ancestry has some ties with royal blood. For my ancestry, my paternal great grandmother was a direct descendant (through her father’s line) of Charlemagne and our ancestors where cousins of William the Conqueror. Also, my grandmother is a descendant of the Stewards, then the Tudors along with the Yorks (which is also a branch of the Plantagenets). So I guess you can say Danny Dyer and I are distant cousins 😂

I am descended from Edward III and like I have told family and friends there is no throne or castle waiting for us nor a vast treasure or a title. I saw a story that said there are around 270,000 people descended from just Edward III in the UK alone. Which makes sense. I am descended from three of Edwards sons (John, Lionel, and Thomas), and it does amaze me but again they were just the people that "did it" and made some babies before either dying from illness or palace intrigue. Danny's life is NOT going to change in anyway much like mine didn't. But it is nice to see another distant cousin!

I am also a direct descendant. It brought me to tears because I had the same reaction. I experienced that same moment of disbelief and awe. It, too, gave me more confidence. I am also descended of slaves, Jews, and Native American Royalty. It's a beautiful thing. We are ALL somebody in this tapestry of life. Thanks for adding this.
