This temple complex is significant in Balinese Hinduism and is often referred to as one of the island's "sad kahyangan jagad," the six sanctuaries of the world.
The main temple is famous for its iconic "Gates of Heaven," a pair of stone gates that perfectly frame the majestic Mount Agung in the background, creating a breathtaking and highly photogenic view. Pilgrims and tourists alike visit Pura Lempuyang for its spiritual significance, the challenging climb, and the stunning panoramic vistas. The journey to the top involves climbing over 1,700 steps, passing several smaller temples along the way, and experiencing the lush natural beauty of the surrounding forest.
