Emily, something that I feel isn't that well known but was a bingo for me is SIBO, and the test is mild and you basically drink something and then breath into a machine. Glad that things are moving forward for you. Usually they give you "twilight" drug (used during some dentistry procedures) during these procedures. Im glad your procedures went well! I had precancerous polyps removed at 27 so now i get a colonoscopy every 5 years. Its not pleasant but colon cancer runs in my family so hopefully I never have to deal with that! Hoping you get some answers with the biopsies.
I had one colonoscopy/endoscopy out and one awake. Had a panic attack when they started the scope while I was awake. The prep sucks, and I have to go every 4-5 years (polyps)! Sucks when you have to start younger. Glad your procedure is done and nothing was found. I understand the frustration with an IBS diagnosis.
Thank you! To be fair, I do have a celiac diagnosis and it looks like I'm healing so the current issues might be due to that. Hopefully it will go away soon and I won't get the IBS label lol
Well, concidering some people have been saying online that they only read dialogue or skip long paragraphs... maybe they have a point. Then they see how many books you read and assume bc they can't you surely can't either or sth On another note, i'm glad you are happy with your week, even if it was kinda sucky bc of the procedures❤
@@BookswithEmilyFox right? That barely reading at that point, but they seem to think its common ?? I've heard people theorize that its bc of booktok, the need to read an impressive amount & reading as a trend but who knows...
When I first read Riane Eisler's The Chalice and the Blade years ago, I loved it because it focused on how the dominator, patriarchal culture overcame the more egalitarian culture during the Neolithic period. It was more of a culture of the Mother Goddess--who was probably the primary deity. She came first before the male god(s).
I had the same procedure this past week. They do put you out here in the states so I don’t remember it. The drink they gave me was cherry medicine flavor which I loath cherry so that was fun. After I’ve been super crampy, I’m not sure if that’s normal.
Girl I understand. I have had a couple of colonoscopies and I know I’m due for another one. And I’m only mid 30s. 😢 can’t have a video without her paw under the door. 😂 I woke up during my colonoscopy once and freaked out.
Apparently, there are many booktubers/booktokers who only skim, or only read the dialogue. Like they just skip any "long paragraphs." I saw some clips of a frustrated girl holding up a book, asking, "Why are there so many words?!" Ummmm.... I just had no answer. 😮 I was stunned into insensibility.
People who ask stupid questions are very likely to actually do whatever they’re asking. I’m convinced. Or at least they’ve considered it. Cuz why would it even cross your mind and actually have the confidence of asking? It for sure never crossed MY mind. like wtf bro 😭
I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy procedure this year too! I was out for it, but the papers I signed before said I shouldn't make any important decisions for the next 24 hours and included using social media in that caution. 😂 I don't have any specific answers yet either, but I hope we both get answers soon!
Both my parents had colonoscopies. Mom had two everything is fine. Dad had one . Doc said he didn't have to come back for 10 years. He had about 5 yrs to go. He passed away last year.
sorry about your health problems, i'm glad you're okay but i hear you on just slapping a label on something and calling it a day... i feel that way with PCOS the doctors just say 'it's normal go on birth control' and that's the only answer ever.. i have the paper menagerie on my shelves i want to pick it up now, and starting the spellshop this week- part of a 'popular IG books' vlog
Booktok does have a problem with people not actually reading books. Rachel 0ates just posted a video about it where they literally say "I only read dialogue" or "I skip paragraphs if they're too long". Obviously you read everything you say you do, but it's sad that that is a real problem elsewhere.
The second book of The Ex Hex was way better in my opinion. The first one was dreadful! The third one just came out and I have it on the waitlist at my library
Funny that people ask if you actually read the books. I won a book on Goodreads. I don’t look up a synopsis of all the books I read before I enter. So the book I won I totally didn’t want to read. Goodreads likes you to leave a review. I thought about not reading it and trying to cobble together a review from reading other reviews but I knew I’d never be able to write something that made sense by doing that. Read it and yep, wasn’t a fan. Going forward, I will always look up the books before I enter. Glad your colonoscopy went pretty well.
Oh Emily, I have had two colonoscopies, and my heart goes out to you. You are about to have a literal shitty week. Virtual hugs in your general direction.
Ugh, I went through a colonoscopy as a teen, but it was for nothing because they wouldn't let me pick up my own results as I was technically a minor and my parents didn't want to do it. My mom said if it was cancer or something important, they would call us. I hated the thing they made me drink all week and not being able to eat barely anything made me so cranky those last two days. They completely put me out during the procedure so I didn't feel or notice anything. One minute I was counting down, the next I was practically naked on a cot, in a hall full of other people in cots with their guardians. I felt vulnerable and exposed, my clothes folded on the end of the cot. The whole experience 0/10
I never read a short story collection cover to cover without reading other books at the same time. Doesn't work with my brain. 🤷♀️ Hope you're feeling better soon.
It was the right thing to do, I know its been a while, but I hope Mamma Cat, the Queen be ok, just like her babies, btw, in that video you talk about having a new baby cat, and now you do!!!!!
For books about how humanity is not doomed to be rules in a hierarchical/patriarcal/capitalist way, look into The Dawn of Everything by Graeber and Wengrow. It’s been translated into French if you want (Au Commencement était…). It’s excellent but quite dense so my advice is to not read the chapters you’re not interested in. I’m almost finished with it and I love it
I agree about reviewing books, but some people write full reviews for books they've not finished. Oh man, I feel you. I did not have a colonoscopy, but a more lowkey version but it was done without any painkillers and it hurt like motherfucker. In my case it did find the source of my issues and after waiting months for a procedure, they fixed it.
I soft DNFed The Spellshop because it was putting me in a reading slump. Too many inconsistencies with the world building and I found the characters to be annoying and unfunny. (A soft DNF because I’m too stubborn to the DNF it ahaha)
If you woke up during twilight sleep, I have concerns about your anesthesiologist. They need you awake so you can follow directions. That’s normal. But waking up from twilight sleep means your anesthesiologist wasn’t on their game. I’m so sorry you had that experience. I’ve had a spin too & it shouldn’t have been like that. I am so sorry. And I dunno if this would help you get through short story/anthology books, but I try to tackle them by reading one story a day/per week. It makes them feel less overwhelming for me.
I found a nonfiction I think you'd be interested in. It's called "The Gospel of Wellness: Gyms, Gurus, Goop, and the false promise of self-care" by Rina Raphael.
Don't feel bad about Ken Liu. I gave Grace of Kings 2 stars. He also translated Cixin Liu's Three Body Problem series which I liked, but I find Chinese sci-fi while quite ambitious and detailed, is generally a slog to read. Is it the translation or the writing style? Who knows. Another issue is that women rarely factor into the story and when they do the scenes are cringe worthy.
The Spellshop is for sure on the spectrum, I read it for a book club and 5 of us are autistic and we all instantly thought she gave undiagnosed autistic woman who’s rude when she doesn’t understand why she’s uncomfortable 😅
Honestly most adult romance read like YA because it’s written for people who didn’t read YA when they were younger or don’t have an adult reading level and so they pick them up and complain that there is no smut it in (critical thinking skills are obviously aren’t there) and so authors are now writing basically YA books with aged up characters so they can put smut in.
@@BookswithEmilyFox Honestly, so it makes sense that the ex hex read like YA and the main characters didn’t feel/act like adults (it’s bc they really weren’t meant to be adults)
i love cozy fantasy but the spellshop was sooo mediocre, nothing against it but, meh, i will forget everything about it in a month, i don't get why so many people love it

Great vlog, per use! ❤
Im glad your procedures went well! I had precancerous polyps removed at 27 so now i get a colonoscopy every 5 years. Its not pleasant but colon cancer runs in my family so hopefully I never have to deal with that! Hoping you get some answers with the biopsies.
I’m sorry they found anything but I’m really happy they caught them early! The prep is definitely worth it to avoid cancer!
Loved The Spellshop!
@@BookswithEmilyFox I hope so! I think mine is probably connected to my POTS or autoimmune condition, but my docs don't coordinate at all lol.
Well, concidering some people have been saying online that they only read dialogue or skip long paragraphs... maybe they have a point. Then they see how many books you read and assume bc they can't you surely can't either or sth
On another note, i'm glad you are happy with your week, even if it was kinda sucky bc of the procedures❤
I could see if you’re about the DNF but… always?? Thats crazy 😂
She came first before the male god(s).
chalice and blade is a tough read, I sent ti back to the library after switching to skimming
I had the same procedure this past week. They do put you out here in the states so I don’t remember it. The drink they gave me was cherry medicine flavor which I loath cherry so that was fun. After I’ve been super crampy, I’m not sure if that’s normal.
I’ve had two and was crampy for maybe five days afterward. If it’s really bad, I’d call the doc to check.
@@kristenr563 today is day six and doesn’t feel like it’s ending anytime soon
It definitely sounds like you should call your doctor to check!
Personally I felt a bit bubbly the next day but I'm back to feeling pretty normal!
@@BookswithEmilyFox oh no 😭
Girl I understand.
I wasn't super into the ex hex but i physically have the second book so now im torn with continue or unhaul (its such a pretty cover)😅😂
I had a colonoscopy/endoscopy procedure this year too! I was out for it, but the papers I signed before said I shouldn't make any important decisions for the next 24 hours and included using social media in that caution. 😂 I don't have any specific answers yet either, but I hope we both get answers soon!
LOL “don’t vlog for 24h after this” luckily it wasn't live!
yeah, it's conscious sedation, I didn't wake up during, but some people can. I'm sorry to hear you did, but it's done 🎉
14:58 je pensais aussi que c’était mon chat, mais mon chat miaule pas… On est deux à avoir été pognée par le chat 😂
Booktok does have a problem with people not actually reading books. Rachel 0ates just posted a video about it where they literally say "I only read dialogue" or "I skip paragraphs if they're too long".
Obviously you read everything you say you do, but it's sad that that is a real problem elsewhere.
I'm with you for Grace of Kings... I've only made it to 26%...
As someone who loves Ken Liu's short stories collection but DNF the grace of kings I hope you'll like it two (I'm at half of the video)
I didn't make it to the end in the vlog (almost done now!) and so far I really am enjoying it!
Not true! 😂 I commented that the Spellshop is not all that great. 3-4 stars. I do hope you like in more to have some joy though ❤
Hope you're feeling better soon.
I been loving the regular appearance of the cats in the videos, but I totally missed what happens with their mother?
I address it here at ~17mins th-cam.com/video/CGUBOJLeyxE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=drwEvN3oKn-crQX3
@@BookswithEmilyFox thank you!
It was the right thing to do, I know its been a while, but I hope Mamma Cat, the Queen be ok, just like her babies, btw, in that video you talk about having a new baby cat, and now you do!!!!!
Me realizing as of mid August this year I helped you grow your 35-44 group 😅
I have my upper endoscopy and colonoscopy tomorrow lol wish me luck🤞🏾
You can do it ❤️
I soft DNFed The Spellshop because it was putting me in a reading slump. Too many inconsistencies with the world building and I found the characters to be annoying and unfunny. (A soft DNF because I’m too stubborn to the DNF it ahaha)
My mom questioned if I read all the books I read too. WTH!
How about doing short story books you have loved?
Courage ❤
You're early! So am I. 😊
❤❤❤
Even if they cut their hand can't they use their magic to heal it? I always imagined then immediately healing it after
I found a nonfiction I think you'd be interested in.
I woke up twice during knee replacement surgery. Oy!
☕️💅
@@BookswithEmilyFox Honestly, so it makes sense that the ex hex read like YA and the main characters didn’t feel/act like adults (it’s bc they really weren’t meant to be adults)
For sure! The world building has potential so I’m bit curious about the second book since a few people mentioned it’s better… we’ll see!
i love cozy fantasy but the spellshop was sooo mediocre, nothing against it but, meh, i will forget everything about it in a month, i don't get why so many people love it
Glad the procedure went well! Hope you're doing better now 🤞
Est ce que tu lis des livres québécois des fois?:) (ton anglais est tlm bon🥲)
Merci! Pas vraiment, mais je lis parfois des classiques en français
please, please say Teeth Thief Thursday 🧛♀it is Gruneule I went and had YT terminate my account cause I was a silly goose
DNFed the Spellshop, she is so, so immature and the story is just too unrealistic for me.
