    last time I came up Mt Ousley was in a R model mack with a huge 237HP Maxidyne motor. Ate my lunch, did my paperwork. felt like 2 hours to the top of the mountain. PMSL

      @@JazzyJasTruckingzz . At one time , in the DISTANT past , Mack 237 Maxidyne was the Biggest Baddest Truck in the World .
      Bit later Volvo G88 happened and made EVERYONE sit up and pay attention .
      Now-a-days Local Delivery Trucks are using 400 - 450 hp .

      I think our Cummins engines are uncorked compared to US versions.
      My (company) 520 Sig absolutely eats all our 550 Cats (er have 8) as do all our other Cummins engines.
      Boss prefers Cummins prime movers. He buys 2nd hand and puts them to work immediately, then after a few trips sorts them. Vary rarely do the engines give trouble on these engines but he may just've got lucky.

  • @basiltaylor8910
    @basiltaylor8910 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice engine but horribly underpowered no wonder your brother is working the gearbox hard, all the extra wear and tear. For good hill climbing performance without flogging the engine,s guts out, there are two options, a snorting 19 Litre Cummins QRSK, 750, 900hp,or better a huge KittyCat V-12 purring 960 ponies. A four trailer road train averages 185 to200 tons fully loaded,it needs best part of 1,000hp to do 45- 50kph on the flat without flogging the guts out of the engine.

    • @andrewking4885
      @andrewking4885 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How the hell are you going fit those engines in a road going truck and plus those road trains have an engine in the trailer they're that heavy.

    • @johncunningham4820
      @johncunningham4820 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      QRSK Cummins are Not permitted on the Seaboard due to Emissions and the V-12 Cat isn't going to FIT in a USABLE vehicle for interurban work .
      Which is where this particular Grade is . Between Wollongong and Sydney .

    • @basiltaylor8910
      @basiltaylor8910 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@andrewking4885 Well ,it has been done, The owner of a 1977 Kenworth W-900 has fitted yes cats&kittens ,a 'K' Series Cummins. Another owner fitted a K, in a Peterbilt 300 Series configured for heavy haulage. Okay the K has a weight, and emissions issue, but in this world there is no such thing as a free lunch ,just 10 percent off the price. It is not rocket science to re work the K,s cylinder head and fit AD Blue, an exhaust scrubbing system popular in UK, in essence concentrated animal piss injected into the exhaust stream trapping particulates and reducing NoX. Like Luke Hobbs, Boss Engineer for Aero Giant Pratt&Whittney said in the late 1940,s ' there is no replacement for displacement' Luke is right for he designed the R-4360 the most powerful production air cooled radial aero engine on the planet. Would you use your daughter,s pony to pull a fully loaded hay wagon?, no the biggest Shire Horse on the farm.
