    Bravo Maestro!
I believe no one has ever shown so much understanding of Beethoven's legacy.
I have a deep respect for Maestro Baremboim as a conductor, soloist, and human being.
He has become imortal in the hall of fame of the great musicians of our time.

Not True! More colorful beautiful piano sound for Beethoven than Barenboim=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Vladimir Ashkenazy Grigory Sokolov! More genius for Beethoven than Barenboim=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov Maurizio Pollini! The Hard truth is Barenboim is a second-rated pianist! Barenboim is the most over-rated ever!!

      @@RaineriHakkarainen Dear Raineri,
Taken by the emotion of the Music I had just heard, I was stating my belief, my opinion if you want. And as such, it is true, just like all opinions and beliefs.
In regards to beauty and colorfulness of execution, for Italian Romantic period music it can sometimes be measured as the more, the better executed.
I was talking about Beethoven, a German Composer who never really abandoned Classicism, although he is rightly credited to the Romantic era.
Again it is my opinion that to my ears great Maestro Daniel Barenboim always understood Beethoven more than anyone else in his time. The evidence of that is his remarkable legacy of so many anthological renditions that have been immortalized. It is not everyone that has accomplished so much in a life time.
Of course that his talent was followed by his fame. It is true that I have not heard all the other players that you have mentioned.
I was just saying that I have deep respect for his work and that Maestro Barenboim is my favorite Maestro, particularly when it comes to Beethoven's work.
And that as a great human being he would probably never say to someone, as ignorant as that person might sound, that his/her beliefs were not true, either.
      Enjoy the Music!

@@PetriAdelheid-nt6md due to the advanced age and the responsibility to conduct the orchestra while being the soloist that execution may have been what one who has never been in such situation would laugh at.
To my ears it was perfect.
It is unbelievable that this discussion going on. Music is supposed to unite people, not make them jealous.

I agree: it's astonishing to think that great conductors like Barenboim (and Zubin Mehta!) has SO many scores committed to memory. And it's like a double whammy that Barenboim plays AND conducts from the piano. Sometimes it almost seems like the highest human achievement to me.

+David Topchiev 'Generic' sounds pejorative. Why not say it goes beyond description? Beethoven wrote something so great that it can't be put in words!

    • @bgarri57
      @bgarri57 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

+David Topchiev David, I see what you're saying, but melodies can become tiresome and cloying upon repeated hearings whereas Beethoven's 5th Piano Concerto rises above all that like a giant. He has written something that goes to another realm entirely. It's unparalleled and it's GOOD that it can't be boiled down into clichéd melodies. Your point is actually why this piece does not tire easily. It's one of the most enduring concertos in the repertoire.

+David Topchiev David, I first heard this work on cassette tape when I was 16. I was transfixed and I played it over and over again. This piece is what got me hooked on classical music. Try listening to it five times in a row. It does have melodies and an ineffable flow and complex emotions, but they are all very well-woven and connected. Also, if you like Tchaikovsky (naturally I do as well), try listening to Shostakovich, too...especially his symphonies. You'll hear how Shostakovich has taken that Russian romanticism to a completely new and fresh level. His 4th is a good place to start. That got him in trouble with Stalin and the performance was delayed for nearly 30 years in the Soviet Union. Perhaps his 7th and 10th are the most accessible, but anything Shostakovich wrote was genius. Also, all real 'romantic' music of the 19th century stemmed from Beethoven. He was a revolutionary and his 3rd Symphony is a testimony to that. Happy listening!

Just saw Barenboim live yesterday playing this same concerto in Berlin, and now watching this to attempt to re-live it. Outstanding, mindblown... brilliant technique, articulation and interpretation. TH-cam sound does no justice to how Maestro Barenboim sounds in the concert hall. Nonetheless, glad to play this as I work

I'm so jealous!! WOW, to see Barenboim live would be so wonderful. Although nothing can compare to a live performance, I'm thankful that there's so much classical music, interviews etc. on TH-cam.

An inspired world class orchestra along with one of the best, maybe the best, piano soloists of our time staged before a likewise inspired audience to perform one of the maybe 5-10 best pieces of music ever written. So, that sets the level of expectations. Yet, I am stunned, over and over again by this performance.

People criticizing and acting like experts. And I am just sitting here admiring the way this pinaist genius plays chamber music with the distinguished artists of this orchestra in one of the most difficult piano concertos in the history of music. So much excellent musicianship in one recording.

I'm a late comer but, to me, one of the beauties of TH-cam is switching from one kind of music to another and reading the (normally) ecstatic comments. Yesterday I was reading astonishingly similar comments about Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond including references to the presence of God! I love them both and all the lovely comments. Thank you all.

In his youth he wasn't such a great pianist. He lacked real feeling, the true sign of a good musician.
      He was rather a technician.
In the latter years, now, as he finally grew relatively old, he plays and now also conducts very well.
His genius deceased wife - the incredibly gifted cellist Jeacqueline De Pre - he proved a rather bad husband
to her, I think her life could be prolonged if she was married to a really loving man.His faithlessness is a black stain forever on him.

Saagenhaft.
