Before the likes of Winter Events and Summer Events Udo Gertz created this amazing and beautiful game that still to this day should not be running with only 12k of memory! Took me 2 hours to be it the first time, but of course many hours learning the game to see the end. One of the best and most loved games on the C16 & Plus4. A close friend to Udo Gertz said he made this game so all C16 owners could be proud, a game with the quality only seen on C64. Udo Gertz created a C16/Plus4 masterpiece!!
If you know a little bit how graphics on the TED machines work, you realize how impossible this game seems. What Udo Gertz has pulled off here is nothing short of magic. Bidirectional (kind of) smooth scrolling is difficult enough (count the C16/116/Plus4 games which actually have this!), but the character also being able to blend in with the background when there's no sprites on these machines... I still can't wrap my head around how he did this.
This game has a very creepy atmosphere. You really feel like you're in the depths of some spooky tomb that you shouldn't be in. The dark gloomy colours and animations really help it.
Me and my brother used to love this game. We only got through it because we realised you didn't have to start way back at the beginning when out of lives. It probably still took us a whole day though.
I played this game long time ago ( > 30 years) ... now to see this amazing player in the game, makes me very happy ;-) thank you für professional playing the game (never seen that before)
Translated to english: That was my favorite game on the C16, an absolute dream, but only later did I realize how incredible it is to get something like 16KB
Das war damals mein Lieblingsspiel auf dem C16, ein absoluter Traum, aber erst später wurde mir klar, wie unfassbar es ist, sowas in 16KB hinzukriegen...
Damn that musics stuck in my head again after all these years! God forgot how annoying the jump sound was as well. Great to see it again though :o) Think after watching the video I could only get to around 7 minutes into the game back in the day.
@@Dave4000 It's written in Assembler, so the code is available by just disassembling it. Still takes a lot of analyzing because you don't have any labels, variable names and comments, but it shouldn't be impossible. Has been done with much more complex software.
Oh wow!!!! This was the first game I ever owned the nostalgia just punched me in the stomach!! Can someone tell me, how you used to "fire" using only a keyboard? My 10 year old self REALLY needs to know because I never got to complete the game. Me and my friend would Play over and over until a certain point then stop because we couldn't fire. We did it one day randomly pressing buttons but never did it again. It would really give me one closure!!!!!
Roughly translated into english: Quite wonderful this game. There was always a mystery how Kingsoft a game with so many screens was hooked on the C-16. ----------------------------------- I quite agree. How was this 178 screen adventure ever fitted within 12K of memory? :)
My first jump ´n ´run and probably the hardest I have ever played. Never mastered to play it as far as you did. lol So there is no chance to finish this game?
Not quite the same music but it's the same developer so it's similar. Actually on certain parts of the game you can hear the Ghost Town music in a little ditty style
WOW nice playing ,,i would need 20 Years to Come so far....I thing i got Till 15 Minutes of this Film ,...at the lightning Pyramides i mosttimes made a wrong jump and only had some 1 or 2 Lives left .REspect ,.. Of course this game was one of the Best on the Commodore 16 .And it was better then other games on the C64 .I Played the c64 version too ,,..it was that bad ,that i played the c64 only 2 or 3 Times.
Well spotted, glad you noticed it. There's a method to my madness here. I have found that you have to position his feet in a certain way using the red demon as the starting block before you start running to land on the spring ahead. At the top of the spring jump there is a little flying blue creature which will unavoidably hit your head, but if you position Tom correctly beforehand as I've shown, you will not die. Strange but true.
that was the 1st computer i had , but the last level a hole was block so u could not go on as i remember same as u at 1.11,02mins there was no where u could go i thought it was a bad end to the game think udo gertz could not be bothered to do any more of the game
Ohh, how I used to spend a whole weekend trying to progress in this game only to die and have to start over miles back. Now it looks almost as boring as minecraft, but with better graphics than minecraft!!
Seriously fuck this game. When I was 10 years old I was still playing this frustrating annoying bullshit when everyone else was playing Sonic the Hedgehog. Happy you enjoyed it though!
Brings back some real excellent memories ❤

The best sound, the best game, the best coding, the longest game of C16.
Absolutely perfect, great work.
Me and my brother used to love this game. We only got through it because we realised you didn't have to start way back at the beginning when out of lives. It probably still took us a whole day though.
As soon as the music started I had flashbacks of Mum yelling ..."Turn that down!"
I played this game long time ago ( > 30 years) ... now to see this amazing player in the game, makes me very happy ;-) thank you für professional playing the game (never seen that before)
One of best C16 games ever!
Wow 😮 I completely forgot I had this game. Can remember spending hours playing. Thank you for uploading ❤
Ganz wunderbar dieses Spiel. Es war mir immer ein Rätsel, wie Kingsoft ein Game mit so vielen Screens auf dem C-16 hinbekommen hat.

This game alone was worth buying a C16 for.
Damn that musics stuck in my head again after all these years! God forgot how annoying the jump sound was as well. Great to see it again though :o) Think after watching the video I could only get to around 7 minutes into the game back in the day.
and thus etched his rightful top place in C16 history forever. Great story :)
Never heard of this until now. Looks like a lost classic and I can see why it's revered in the TED scene.
Great longplay! I never had the endurance to get any further than key #6 or #7... as far as I remember. ;)
So why doesn't anyone hack the game to remove the obstacle from the death screen, so that we can at least see what's beyond it?
If it were possible to obtain all the code and remove the obstacle, then yeah.

Great game, one of the best on the C16

I quite agree. How was this 178 screen adventure ever fitted within 12K of memory? :)
Boy my dad bought me this when I ws 4 years old but it was damaged and never really loaded. Now, 34 years later, I can finally see it!
My first jump ´n ´run and probably the hardest I have ever played. Never mastered to play it as far as you did. lol So there is no chance to finish this game?
finally lol , so much memories
Geil, ich weiß noch genau die Stelle, an der ich nie vorbeigekommen bin, war knapp vor der Hälfte, ohne, das wäre noch ein langer Weg gewesen.
Udo gertz legend 👊
I've been disapointed by lack of some ending screen...
oooh yeah! The joystick killer!
this is the grandfather of mario
Just recognized that this is the same music as ghost town - only a bit faster. Someone knows who stole from whom (or ist it same developer)?
Not quite the same music but it's the same developer so it's similar. Actually on certain parts of the game you can hear the Ghost Town music in a little ditty style
