Absolutely love the videos Jay. Your videos and parts gave me the confidence and knowledge to build a bulletproof C6. I am an engineer, so these things are fascinating to me. 2 years ago, I would have never attempted to rebuild one. After TH-cam University and specifically Professor Jay's master classes, I built a C6 I am confident will handle anything I can throw at it with my 1979 lifted, BBF 460 (soon to be 557) Bronco. Valve body, wide ratio kit with 6 pinion front planetary, forward drum power piston, 4 pinion rear planetary, #9 roller bearing kit, and your experience and knowledge helping a guy out. I can't thank you enough.
Hi Jay, I think I remember the plastic lever mounted on the outside shift linkage was to set the lever in drive or neutral so when the tranny is put in the car at the factory, the floor shift rod, the steering column lock out rod and the safety switch (mounted inside the car) could be lined up and adjusted. I believe the plastic piece is then simply unscrewed or broke off and the car is sent down the line. Also, I had a 66 428/C6 cop car engine/trans I used in a Drag car in the 70's in which the big accumulator valve didn't have any springs. Old Ford papers at the time showed police valve body layout with the accumulator springs missing as well. Fords early version of a HiPo upgrade I would think.
My 1968 Torino Cobra Jet transmissions valve body has a little tag on it that has a "CA" stamped in it. I'm told that is unique. Also, I'm told before around 1972 or so, only the Cobra Jet main cases are machined to accept the R servos.
Great information. I am an engine guy through and through but I also enjoy transmission information. Especially C6. I have two C6's behind pretty stout 427 small block Windsors and both have had your valve bodies for over 15 years working flawlessly. One is in a '70 Mach I, the other in a '36 3-window Ford Coupe. Please show the modifications you do to these. Thanks
Not boring to me. At all. I do have a question or two. The '72-'73 Torino and Montego cars had optional 429 N-code Thunder Jets (not Cobra Jet) with C6's behind them. Do you know if those trannies would be the same specs and parts as the earlier CJ boxes? Related, I bought a bunch of old parts from a guy a few years back and in the pile was an NOS in the box iron C6 tailshaft housing with a 1972 casting number (D2). So, makes me wonder if that trans type carried on later, even beyond as there was the 460PI A-Code engine option for full size cars up until 1976 or so. Thoughts?
Fantastic vid Jay. Never Boring. Love a good C6 build :) Never seen the 2 groove high drum , knew about the single groove 4 clutch. Love to see the valvebody differences . Have seen mention in a Ford schematic the the accumulator and servo modulator valves were not used in the police transmissions , this one might be the same ? Notice though that one has the narrow spline rear hub
I have an original C6 from my old 76' police package custom 500. This tranny has the "H" servo, along w the cast iron tail shaft. I have a spare E servo lever...very short.
Jay, I don't remember if it was in the instructions I got with a kit you put together for me or if it was in the how to videos from Bad Shoe productions, but there was a comment about the low/reverse piston with the full set of springs from a Lincoln? (extra long tail shaft/housing) being more desireable then the one with fewer springs. Can you elaborate on this?
After the first 1000 engines, they aren't that cool. Hard to talk with someone who thinks a 500hp engine that the machine shop built is cool. Most people dont talk about transmissions because they know nothing about them. Figuring out how to make a transmission work behind a 1500hp 557 is fascinating. You ever think about an accumulator, similar to the engine set-up? On the monster truck when i am on the front tires trying to back up into a moonwalk, the transmission likes to flare up because the fluid isnt in the pan anymore.
Way cool! Definitely not boring, always enjoy your videos. Transmissions are exciting!!

I appreciate these videos Jay. Way cool to watch!!!
Also, thanks for the information. I knew about the r code servo, but didn't know about the forward drum.

I have one sitting behind a 300 I6. The more I learn about it, the more I appreciate it.

The red lever might be for the cars that had a floor shifter and linkage going to a column lock only used after 1970 .
my 1970 Cyclone GT had that .
I like to learn something new everyday. Thanks Jay, for every video you post.

Used to run a 428 CJ with a C6 1968 Mustang drag car. If you use the R servo and the F lever, there isn't enough clearance when adjusting the band.

Jay, what do you think one of those transmissions are worth?
