It takes countless hours of preparation & hard work to paint a jet aircraft.
In conjunction with our 40th Anniversary, we go behind the scenes at the MAS Hangar in KLIA as our tireless staff worked day & night to take our first 737-800 back in time to 1972, adorning the livery of our first 737-200.
Malaysia Airlines today revealed one of its aircraft with the original livery it featured on 1 October 1972, to commemorate its 40 years of Malaysian Hospitality delivery to air travellers. The Malaysia Airlines' Boeing 737-800 was re-painted in full colours of the first ever aircraft that took to the skies four decades ago.
This video was entirely shot by the Malaysia Airlines official Social Media 'Plane Spotter' team.

Sangat menyentuh perasaan. Kerja berpasukan yang mantap. Video ini mengimbau kembali suka duka, pahit getir perjuangan dan tragedi hitam yang menjadi igauan setiap rakyat Malaysia, MH370 dan MH17 yang akan tersemat di sanubari selamanya. Al-Fatihah buat yang telah pergi dan cekalkan semangat buat yang ditinggalkan.
Personally, this original livery of MAS is still my favourite. As a 16year Singapore boy in 1976, my first flight ever was on a MAS Boeing 737, from Singapore's Paya Lebar Airport to KL's Subang Airport. It was December 4th. My mum and I were heading to Sydney Australia, via KL and Melbourne.
From KL, we flew on the Boeing 707. MAS did provide its Golden Service on board. Seeing this 'retro' livery brings back many nostalgic memories. Thank you.

Wow, i really miss this old livery. I remember it when i first flew MAS from Korea to Subang International Airport in 1982. It was A300 in this awesome color and design.

Muhammad Arshad Muhammad I have fond memories of Malaya and the the founding of Malaysia, since I had the privilege to serve in the RAF in Singapore from 1959 - 1962 and again from 1964 - 1965. A few years ago my wife and I also flew Malaysian Airlines to Ha Noi from LHR via the new International Airport Shah Alam International (fantastic). We also stayed a few days with our friends in KL on the way home. I have loved Malaysia since the days in the early sixties when I drove several times to KL from Singapore (before the Motorway!), and one time going by road as far as Fraser's Hill for a break from the heat of Singapore. To see the skill of the men doing the retro paint job was fantastic. Even the masking pre-paint has changed as new materials have become available to the technicians. Recent sad events at Malaysian Airlines would not deter me from flying Malaysian and I commiserate and sympathise with all who have suffered loss of loved ones. I have gone on a bit here perhaps, so sorry about that.

My Father Used To Work With Malaysia Airlines As MAS Catering (Later LSG Sky Chefs Brahim & Brahim Airline Catering) From May 1980 To December 2014.

originally on 9M-MXA, in August 2023 9M-MXA got repainted to negaraku, but 9M-MLV was repainted to the retro livery
