- Illini Inquirer's Derek Piper and Jeremy Werner discuss four-star 2025 guard Jeremiah Fears' decommitment, why it makes sense for Fears and why it makes sense for Illinois and what's next in the Illini's 2025 pursuits. The guys then overanalyze practice video released by Illinois basketball, what excites them the most, what they're skeptical of most and what they next want to see. The guys then discuss the five Illini who will play in the NBA Summer League.

It's apparent that Illinois was not a good fit for Jeremiah Fears. Under the circumstances, it may be a win-win for both sides that Fears decommitted. It's great that Illinois is in the mix of consideration by top level prospects.
Maybe not this year, but Illinois had plans for him next year.
Good luck down the road, Jeremiah and Dad. Last thing we needed was another Mark Smith situation with a hefty NIL package added on top. I think his arrow is pointed down overall. He's no more ready physically than Nicco was.
Is anyone concerned about replacing 1 recruit to the roster when they just replaced 9? I'm not.
I feel bad for Geoff Alexander. At one point or another, he had both Fears brothers lined up only for outside circumstances causing them to look elsewhere.
If this was a decision months ago he would be on the team, now with after all the roster building this decision comes ? Well, maybe he saw that Illinois/Brad are not old Illinois ,no guarantees ,get or get lost . NIL, Portal & Liuka era is here
Brad and staff are good enough to get another elite prospect
There’s so much fluff about preseason rosters being spoken about. This is a team that has 2 returning players, and is bringing in a bunch of random guys and euros.
My daughter had a weighted stuffy that got us stopped every.single.time. When we almost missed a flight because of it the stuffy mysteriously disappeared.😂
If he don't want to play for the Illini, go your own way and do not let the door hit you in the a$$ !
Ty has to finish at the rim more consistently hopefully
Not sure why Ty Rogers is a guard when he didn't even attempt one three pointer last year. Somebody for some reason has Ty Rogers always starting in every scenario. Personally with his lack of outside shooting Rogers may turn out to be a 10th man

He can always get a year of NIL somewhere else and transfer in to Illinois…
Gotta agree with the guys on this one; after all the back and forth and drama here with not one, but two recruits from the same family, it might be best to have a long distance relationship, lol.
First
Your asking for potential trouble when the players parent has more basketball influence than the coach. That's why I like mid major or foreign Transfers. They understand all aspects much more than 18 year old kids.
no big woop
No reason to offer a lot of NIL to a guy who may get little playing time.
I was never thrill with his commitment. He doesn't fit the body type that underwood likes in his guards.
I think he'll potentially become that still; you can tell he's still very much growing into his body. Those shoulders look like the promise of a bigger build down the road, so that at 6'3", with a hopefully improved 3 ball, he'll be fine.
@@Gee2deDubya wow. You clearly don't understand body types. He's never going yo fill out and he's nowhere near 6'3 .
@@bbking7800 I very much understand body types, but if you need to cling to silliness you have yet to prove, have at it.
He is listed at 6'3", so until I hear a reputable source say differently, that's what I'm going with. If you have something to add that goes beyond backseat driving, I'm all eyes.
No biggie
This will be a mistake that will come back to bite us just like Podz
Podz did not even truly hurt us, look at the trajectory of the program since. This will turn out to be a positive, especially if we land Jasper!
They need to get together with Sky Clark and his momma. They know best, while eating a cheeseburger in their recliner
