- Eric Idle is an English comedian actor, author, and singer-songwriter who found immediate fame with Monty Python's Flying Circus. Following their TV success, the group began making films, which include Holy Grail (1975), Life of Brian (1979) and The Meaning of Life (1983). Idle, who also founded The Rutles, authored the smash Broadway musical Spamalot, which won three Tonys.
While in town for promoting his new sortabiography "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", Idle sat down to talk about his illustrious career. Not a dull moment when Eric discusses music, comedy, TV, cinema and the #1 funeral song in the UK.

Moderator: “Now we move to comedy?” Love it. Eric Idle carried this interview with such generosity, intelligence and wit.
How can this talk have only 28K views after 5 years? I always enjoy Eric Idle's talks even if the interviewer always wants to cover the same ground. While Eric says a lot of the exact same things in the exact same way, (who wouldn't after 50 years of covering the same limited topic, right?) he always manages to throw in something new, interesting and funny.
I wonder if that George Harrison shirt is going to come up, since he and Idle were good friends.

omfg GOOGLE. The best guest EVER. You can stop the series now. You can't top Eric Idle. (I do feel bad for the poor interviewer who was obviously starstruck to the point of panic. Thank goodness Mr Idle is so gracious. John Cleese or Terry Gilliam would've walked out in less than 10 minutes. Terry Jones would have just gotten incomprehensibly drunk.)

Great interview, I think the interviewer did a good job as well. The flow and direction of the interview was expertly guided.

He is from Tupelo Mississippi....he lived and died in Memphis...I know this because I'm from Memphis. ..
I am only watching this because of Eric Idle, and I am still desperately hanging in there. I don't know who this interlocutor is, and I have never seen this Talks at Google. But I really find the approach really annoying, with the questioner intensely irritating.

Making The Life of Brian about Muslims would be a challenge, especially the permanent hiding after. If you're a Muslim, you'd be in even graver danger.

Yea he needs to study how to interview and let the subject speak.
You are a little too harsh. You are right, that he is not very good. But Eric Idle saved the interview anyway.

Moderator's only mistake was setting up the audience to expect a rapid fire questions. packed a lot of great questions in a fun interview.
Can you imagine how would you feel interviewing your hero? He needs more time yet he squeezed 50 years into half an hour. Props

Geezus Google, you couldn't find a better moderator than this? Was he just the closest to the stage? Awful. Truly awful.
'TH-cam comments are more interesting than the videos'... Who hired this guy? Seriously. That was genuinely insulting to the guest who's videos you were referencing. Sadly, it was Eric Idle in this instance.
Eric Idle isn't quite accurate about his generation of comedians "moving into a blank field", as The Goons (whose LPs were produced by George Martin) had set the precedent for Monty Python's Flying Circus (& John Cleese had worked on The Goon Show). What we nowadays recognize as "Python humor" wouldn't have been possible without Spike Milligan's work in the 1950s and '60s.
