    I am a Cameroonian living in south africa presently. This video doesn't only portray the simplicity of life in cameroon but also how discipline and good muslims are unlike what the media potrays. I really feet proud of myself because I cultivate vegetable and sell in order to fund my university studies. This video makes me more proud of myself. Thanks @the school of life.

      +tamufor stephen My Mom is from nothern part of Nigeria ! and i can confirm this Fulanis dont even live in any villages, they live in the deep jungles because their cattles cant have pasture to graze in the village or cities

    • @tamuforfon3447
      @tamuforfon3447 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      that is not entirely true. some live in the village and have to migrate for long distances for their cattle to feed and then they come back. others live close to the source. it all depends on the season. by the way, you can't really seperate village and a jungle here. they are all one.

    "Then I will greet my wife."
    It may be just a little sentence, but this is what I loved the most in this film!
    Talking about marriage, Shakespeare says :
    " Upon familiarity will grow more contempt".
    If you have four children with a woman, I guess you can't be any more "familiar" with her than that! But this man sounds so courteous and respectful when he says: then he will " greet" his wife...One must be a very noble and grateful person in a relationship, not to end up the way Shakespeare describes.
    Watching these wonderful videos feels like reading literature! You learn about the lives of people you could otherwise never meet, you imagine yourself there, living that life. It is such an enrichment. You also feel happy that, for example, if you ever happen to meet a farmer from Cameroon, may be you can begin a chat just talking a little bit about Mbroro cows, now that you know what kind of grass they like to eat ..Any beautiful detail we can share with them can connect us with people.
    Well, imagining myself there, I realised that I would be a real bad cattle herder... While counting the sheep I would always be distracted, I would get lost on the way to the water ( no sense of orientation whatsoever... ) and I would definitely not let those cows go nowhere, after seeing what happened to that one poor cow...
    Indeed I would just play with those lovely children all day!

    Cameroon has a very nice countryside and a very interesting language.

    • @nidangeaboa1623
      @nidangeaboa1623 9 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      there is not only one language for the whole country. Actually there are more than 300 dialects spoken in Cameroon

    • @GREENSP0RE
      @GREENSP0RE 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      +Nidange Aboa Wow, I had no idea. Sorry for being culturally illiterate. How much do the dialects differ from each other?

    • @nidangeaboa1623
      @nidangeaboa1623 9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +GREENSP0RE don't worry the fact that you appreciate it is already great.
      The dialects are more or less different depending on the tribe group (I don't know if it is the right way to say that: english is not my first language). tribes that belong to the same group have different languages but can understand each other a little bit. Fror exemple in the Bamileke group, there are many different tribes (such a Bamoon or Bamenda) they do not have the same dialect but have less difficulty understanding each other than understanding someone from another group.

    • @GREENSP0RE
      @GREENSP0RE 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Nidange Aboa Cool, sounds like a lot of linguistic diversity. Does it ever make communication difficult between groups, or do most people stay inside the tribe they were born in?

    • @nidangeaboa1623
      @nidangeaboa1623 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +GREENSP0RE We have two common languages: french and english, but dialects are still very present in cities among people from the same tribe and even more in villages where there are people who only speak their dialect.
      I really like this diversity, when you go in cities such as Douala or Yaounde, you can hear so many different languages and I think it is one of the things that make this country so beautiful.
      But I might be a little biased 😁

    I like how Mboro Fulani was honest enough to not place all the fault on the neighboring farmers.
    If I were wealthy enough, I'd open a kickstarter (or other funding campaign) to provide him and his family with modern farming tools (fencing, large buckets, slickers, etc.) and a whole slew of clothes and educational materials.
    but the pessimist in me fears that his neighbors might grow jealous and sabotage his operations.

    and I don't think it always needs to be (what some might consider) exotic jobs.
    sanitation engineers, school chefs, circus folk, sea food collectors, etc.
    any job that's traditionally under appreciated. because those workers deserve more screen time.

What more could one want? The rest is vanity...

    just an addendum to a comment below about the spoken languages in cameroon. the official languages is french and english. and yes... cameroon has between 250 to 300 dialects which makes the country one of the most diverse. i really dont understand why there is so much hatred between christians and muslims around the world for in my country (cameroon), that hatred doesnt exist. i think trump needs to come to cameroon and take some lessons about love amongs different groups of people. just saying...

    Simple living is where humanity started. Nowadays, most of us enjoy the urban life with all its luxury and vices, at the same time feeding ourselves with wastes that people living a simple life in farms have very little access to. They don't have what most people enjoy today, but they certainly have what we can' barely have today.

    Some would see this type of work as hard and saddening. I see it as simple and luxurious. He may not live in a plantation house with lovely lights and decor, but he seems satisfied with his life and how he lives it. The farms in many countries aren't this healthily raised and cared for. They're typically just machines now. A lot of modern countries modify their animals to make them appear better, but are so much more unhealthy. Cameroon is a simple country. It's saddening to know the nomadic terrorist groups that are there, but for the most part, I like the looks of Cameroon. It doesn't seem wartorn or barbaric like people portray a lot of African countries to be. It's relatively peaceful and simple. And I like it.

    What The School of Life does best, in my humble opinion, is help people visualize ideas. I have this idea of challenging all of humanity to begin working on a project, The Big Project. As an analogy, think of a hammer, a tool: before using it for it's intended purposes, a child would smash stuff and play with it like a toy. Eventually with enough experience they would learn how to use it to create or recreate other things into better ones. Much like a hammer the Internet is a tool, but right now we use it mainly to just play around, and in some ways utilize it's potential for monetary gain but mostly it's divided us. We need goals with any tool to focus our efforts towards a humanity excelling end game. How can we visualize a project, consisting of many smaller projects, that helps unite people towards a common goal? Imagine being able to stand in front of a camera that the entire population of Earth was watching, and, with translators of course, ask the human race to share their big ideas in some kind of arena that allows everyone to input their own skills, expertise, opinions to build on these ideas. A massive spiderweb of small projects, feeding the Big Idea, The Big Project. Let's start this discussion, let's utilize this newest and greatest tool of communication the world has ever seen.

    1st generation: works hard. make ends meet for the future of the next gen.
    2nd generation: knows the importance of intelligent hard work and paves the way next gen to be successful.
    3rd generation: this actually succeeds in acquiring wealth and fame. but neglects the next generation.
    4th generation: gets spoiled by the wealth and negligence and screws it all over.
    5th generation: feels good to back in the cattle herder business.....
    the vicious cycle repeats.
    ps: your ancestors were cattle herders, your future generations will be cattle herders and you are somewhere in the middle.

    Settlement is best option for the Fulani. Their cows get bigger and their families are healthier. Nomadism is outdated and causes problems.
