what a great video.nice detail and tips.ive been struggling for a while now.those shimming tips and fastening tips before shimming i think is gonna do the job.thankyou✌
Quite an insightful video on the KTM starter. When you say the system could “bind up,” do you mean that the idler and the bendix just wont move in spite of the starter receiving power?
Hi, The gears will bind but still turn. This will absorb a lot of starter motor power just to turn them and so reduce the power left to turn the engine over. In summary the Engine will spin slower when using the starter motor.
Hi, I use a standard Alu zinc spray used on exhausts. It works a treat to make the old bolts look new. My currant spray can is brand Baufix from Lidl. You can do it 👍
Those crown wheel gaskets are total crap! luckily my crown wheel has a bit less than 1/2 a tooth of play when no gasket is fitted, (no shims), I just clean up the gasket faces with a bit of brake cleaner then use some silicon sealant. Its interesting that the starter motor bolts effect the backlash, I'll check that out!
@@YoucandoitwithJules No gaskets worked out just fine, having said that I have had other issues! I replaced my bendix and crown wheel with the later ones (laser welded), I had already replaced the starter motor with a 410w version and I upgraded the battery to an ion one with a load more cold Cranking Amps (CCA). The result was that when I hit the starter motor when the engine was stone cold it snapped the bendix shaft snapped in half!. I replaced it with anther one (Both KTM ones, not ebay jobbies). It was fine with a warm engine being an idiot (and lazy) I hit the button again when the engine was cold, it snapped the second bendix in half! Because I can't trust myself I've built a 'box of tricks' that will not allow the starter system to work if the engine is stone cold. So far so good!
@@tabraham1992 If everything is assembled correctly it sounds strange. You can always try two gaskets on the outer cover. Let’s us know how you get on . You can do it 👍
Beautiful! I changed the bendix, crown wheel and starter . But I guess when I buy in the bendix I didn’t secured the bendix on the bushing and so when I tried to start it the ignition cover blew a hole right were the bendix goes
@@YoucandoitwithJules That's good to hear . I've just picked up 2010 300xc from buddy of mine. It's got starter issue which hopefully with your video I will be able to solve . He did put stronger 410 starter , stronger battery but it still won't start using button . Hopefully Bendix and Crown wheel will solve it .
Use lots of grease on all gears and replace your bushings every year or so - which can be tough to get out. Also, use kick starter for cold starts.
This video set is extremely helpful. Thank you for posting and happy trail riding.
Great you found it helpful 👍

Super! But we cannot find part 3
Let me check part 3 might not of been made 🙃
Which aluminum zinc spray did you paint the bolts with?

So any problems with the upgrades ?
None at all. Works perfectly. You can do it 👍

@@sidecarbod1441 sounds like a brutal starter system. From my experience it's not the battery power or cable, just a shit design. You can do it 👍
@@YoucandoitwithJules Yeah, it is a shit design!
Do you have a part 3
I must edit it and upload it. However it works a treat spins up every time.
@@YoucandoitwithJules I've got all the parts, issue is with no shims i still have 0 free play, tried all sorts of tightening procedures with no luck

I don’t see part 3
Adrian Serna Hi, it’s yet to be uploaded. However I can say that finally the 300 starts on the button.

Adrian Serna : wow certainly some power there then. Hope you get if fixed soon. Keep us posted
