Azanor we all know life has been crazy busy for you, so thank you for taking the time to update Thaumcraft! Hands down my favorite mod for Minecraft of all time.
That's going to make mass item scanning go so much faster. no more dropping stuff on the ground where it's more easily stolen or lost and no more slow ass 3 hour scanning adventures (sorry but i sucked at remembering what i scanned before)
in the last version of thaumcraft you could open the chest or you inventory, pick up the thaumometer and then scan the items in the inventory. dropping them on the floor was not neccessary
observation, hypothesis, prediction, experiment, conclusion. this is why i love thaumcraft, its treating magic like a science. its constructing a world with different natural laws, and youre using the same methods to explore them as we do in real life. though sad that the wands are gone. i liked the more magic themed wands and staves a lot more than the gauntlets. the focus crafting system is great though.
thaumaturgy (aura/energy) and alchemy (matter) were alwas two aspects of the mod. trading wands for gauntlets in the thaumaturgy field didnt really change that. wands were pretty much just raw energy storage, and foci were machines that channeled the energy stored in wands to create their effects. the wands were always fitting for the mod. and i liked the idea that they were also the omni wrenches for thaumcrafts machines. its just personal taste. wands and staves have more flavour to me.
Thaumcraft is one of my favorite nods, and I don't even play Minecraft anymore. Treating magic like a science is always one of my favorite tropes, and Thaumcraft really exemplifies it. As for the gauntlet, everyone gets caught up in the Infinity War hype, but I do think wands and staves were a bit stereotypical.
Stereotypical or not, I also prefer wands over gauntlets. Gauntlets seem a bit too sci-fi for me, where thaumcraft is a science-magic mod. I just hope someone will make a mod that turns gauntlets back into wands.
I appreciate your conciseness in explaining the mod. Theres many spotlights from other people where they just faf around for 13 minutes on a single sliver of the mod.

I've always loved how everything is presented in a first person perspective in the thaumanomicon. It makes the entire mod feel super unique and it also gives a feeling that you're experimenting with the mod rather than following instructions like in others. The only thing I don't like about the mod is the flux mechanic. It feels like you're getting punished for everything you do, and it goes against experimenting, until you need the corruption to progress. I wish there was a way to eliminate corruption as a mechanic but it isn't too important to me. Overall, this is one of the best magic mods out there because of how unique it feels.
These mechanics are fantastic! I love the additions and the amount of thought that the Thaumcraft developer(s) has put into this mod throughout the years.
The new simple way to get aspect crystals will make quantifying and storing Vis in ME systems so much easier, we will no longer have to waste vis that doesnt get shoved into jars, instead, just set up drop-recipes for each of the vis types, for instance, 2 soul sand is dropped with 7 quartz slivers to make 3 spiritus, 1 trap, and 3 of that other one, so you request gems and you'll get the other parts as a byproduct, but you'll get the materials you need without having to deal with complicated fluiduct rules, then you can also set up a crucible with recipes to drop in vis crystals and the object to avoid over-doing recipes like with the excess dropped by the blaze powder
Endertrot I hated the aspect games, I would usually turn taint and the bad stuff off in my configs before I started playing, then I would grind everything out in the thaumonomicon. It would usually take me about 5 hours if I sped through it.
Azanor probably woke up in the middle of the night to the realization that questing mod packs had become the norm, and that he should make his mod 1 big questing line. I personally like it
One of the three best (extra) mods in my opinion, with Botania, and Tinker's Construct. May not be for everyone, but you gotta play with ONE of them for some really fun playthroughs
I have a txt file in which I rank all the games Ive played and Thaumcraft (the last Ive played was the 4 version I think) is the only thing to have ever recieved a 10 out of 10 reiting. My second all time favorite minecraft mod is Twilight forrest, tho it only gets a reiting for 9 cos Ive never played a version that feels completed.

Suggestion for Azanor: Crystal repository. When this special chest is placed next to the focal manipulator, the area to the left in the GUI would show the contents of the chest instead of the players inventory. Basically, it would give players a way to stock pile crystals for use in thaumic operations and not clog up the player's inventory. It could possible have interactions with theory crafting and several other areas of TC.
Your goal with this mod is to collect all of the infinity stones so you can use the infinity gauntlet to bend reality to your will. At the snap of my fingers, creepers will cease to exist.
I'm stunned that Direwolf20 has been making mod reviews for this long in a similar, very helpful style, changing almost nothing and staying great for as long as he has, maybe with just a little more energy.
It was for 1.8 but it was never "finished" since the modded community jumped to 1.9 pretty freakin quick. Something got in the way and it never got upgraded to 1.9, then we went to 1.10 and...yeah kinda got abandoned. So hyped to see it come back
Can't wait for the load of addons to come out like Thaumic Energistics, Forbidden Magic, Thaumic Exploration, Thaumic Tinkerer, Witchling Gadgets, and maybe some new ones like Refined Thaumic Storage...? :O
Just some further informations : When you scan a chest or any container with the thaumometer, you scan also what is contained into it. Also, scanning a growing crystal (eg. aqua crystal) do not give the same as scanning an aqua crystal already harvested (the item). To know which item contains which aspects, ThaumicJEI can tell you if you install and configure it. PS: I'm French, so if there are mistakes, please feel free to correct me ^^

WOW! Very cool. I got kind of fed up with Thaumcraft after I completed Agrarian Skies 2 and was kind of happy it didn't make it to 1.10. But that remake of the mod is very thrilling, I hope to play with it on some modpack eventually!

The last thaumcraft, you could hold the thaumometer over things in your inventory and it would scan so you wouldn't have to boot them onto the ground to scan them.
In thaumcraft you need to research thaumcraft stuff to make other thaumcraft stuff. At the end of the day the things that you make with thaumcraft rarely do anything outside. The day the rewards are worth the huge amount of work to do, then I'll try it again
I’ve never played this mod before 1.12. With all the hype I was hoping there was some really useful stuff in here and it wasn’t going to be like Embers where you do a bunch of stuff and get nothing worthwhile at the end. So I hope this isn’t true.

KarMagick I’m glad the original comment was wrong and I agree the journey is very important in a magic mod, but just don’t want to get into another “journey sans destination” thing. Sounds like that’s not going to happen.
dont forget the fact that the furnace doesnt require fuel and works forever, since you summon a blaze and trap it inside, you can pipe liquid fire magic into the bottom though to make it run faster
Something to note. Don't use the Salis Mundus on a bookcase somewhere that a ranged collector might pick the book up. It won't let you access "First Steps."
Fun fact for the future: I've found that Coal and Charcoal contain exactly 10 Ignis and Potentia, and torches contain 5 Lux and 1 Bestia. It's just a bit more efficient, IMO
But how do you actually get the Auram essentia for the focus without cheating? It seems harder than it used to be. Literally the one thing that I'm stuck at is the bit that you cheated to get around, dangit :P
Got me thinking, with that whole, Infinity war an everything going on, just made me realise that the Thai monster really looks like it should be an infinity Monocle or something as it has the six stones/gems in what seems to be a golden colored casing... PROOF!
Has anyone else had an issue with making Alumentum? I’ve tried the recipe so many different ways and every time, the crucible breaks the coal into essentia instead of using it as a catalyst. Does anyone have a fix to this?
So excited for this now. The foci ideas reminds me of Ars Magica with Self, Touch & Projectile in the Occulus only with Thaumcraft norms and differences this time instead of elemental magic or other fancy stuff that Ars Magica was known for. Not saying its a bad thing, its just the vibe I get, I could be wrong, I just have a feeling its like it similar to Ars Magica only with a gauntlet instead of your fist to cast spells and obviously not a wand or staff. I'm curious about this version though. I have to say though, its looking good for salis mundus use which usually bothered me thinking about getting it at times as a thaumcraft noob, gauntlets and 'questing elements' and whatever else Azanor has added to 6 that will make me just as surprised as knowing I can scan the moon being a great thing that makes it stand out from most interactions I've ever seen in anything mod or game related ever like it was with water and other non-solid blocks/items. It still surprises me. :)

Stone7C1 it feels alot more like alchemy which is what thaumcraft has definitely done in the past and is continuing to do.

The new research system is interesting, but i miss the aspect puzzles
Especially once thaumcraft addons were thrown in. Some like Gadomancy need dozen upon dozens of research points, which took hours of boring grinding !

It’s been in ATM3 for a while now, also Modern Skyblock 3, Enigmatica and I’m sure there’s more.
Came across it in the 1.12.2 pack and now I'm here! Good stuff, dunno if I'll ever be able to play without it again!

This looks amazing! Best part: NO BS ASPECT PUZZLES. No fun-sucking time wasters to taint the experience (so far).
if anything, i found the aspect puzzles to be really fun
thar foci crafting looks a lot like Ars magicka 2
but thats a good thing. the foci went from pre determined effects with level up perks to really heavily customizable.

Note: You should NEVER make the mistake of burning your gauntlet up in your crucible by simply right clicking it. Always use an empty hand.

Good that the hare leather was changed to normal leather. Was a nightmare to find in the Beta builds :x .
Can't you scan a bunch of items at once, by putting them in a chest, and scanning the chest? I thought that was in one of the beta releases.

Has anyone else had an issue with making Alumentum? I’ve tried the recipe so many different ways and every time, the crucible breaks the coal into essentia instead of using it as a catalyst. Does anyone have a fix to this?

It's been so long that I've forgot almost everything about this mod
On the Twilight Forest server, we have Thaumcraft and I had 2 people track me down to gain research points
Been holding off on minecraft until this mod, Azanor makes me wanna play again
you can go into our inventory, click on the 'scanner' and hover it around over items in your inventory to scan them.
So we now have Thaumcraft and AE2 for the later versions of MC but do we have Thaumic Energistic?

So excited for this now. The foci ideas reminds me of Ars Magica with Self, Touch & Projectile in the Occulus only with Thaumcraft norms and differences this time instead of elemental magic or other fancy stuff that Ars Magica was known for. Not saying its a bad thing, its just the vibe I get, I could be wrong, I just have a feeling its like it similar to Ars Magica only with a gauntlet instead of your fist to cast spells and obviously not a wand or staff. I'm curious about this version though. I have to say though, its looking good for salis mundus use which usually bothered me thinking about getting it at times as a thaumcraft noob, gauntlets and 'questing elements' and whatever else Azanor has added to 6 that will make me just as surprised as knowing I can scan the moon being a great thing that makes it stand out from most interactions I've ever seen in anything mod or game related ever like it was with water and other non-solid blocks/items. It still surprises me. :)
