I were there in DaNang 4 weeks ago, I think DaNang is the best coastal city in Vn according to climate less humid than other coastal cities, to me DaNang is also the most beautiful city in Vn , they have a little bit of everything very much. Thanks for sharing
I did like Da Nang and I really like Hoi A too. Everyone keeps saying the beach is better in Hoi An, I don’t think so. I prefer the beach in Da Nang and Old Town in Hoi An as far as city to city. Thanks for watching!
Thank you sir for sharing. One add, what if you had an emergency medical situation, what is the medical setup there for immediate care. I am coming there in January for a five day trip. Would love your feedback as someone who is actually living the local life. Love seafood, beaches, and cultural events. Can you please share three or four things that I must do in that short time and three or four to AVOID. Stay healthy and safe.
Thanks for watching! I too am only passing through, only here for a short time. As far as medical or any other type of emergency contacts I suggest a Google search for “emergency numbers for English speakers in (city) Vietnam”. This will return a list of all types of phone numbers. I highly recommend UHCSafetrip.com for travel/medical coverage. As far as things to see, I can recommend that you look on booking sites and review excursions that you may like and enjoy for the areas that you are in because we all enjoy different types of things. My channel doesn’t focus on travel activities, I’m more into the way of life and costs associated with living in different parts of the world with current concentration of SE Asia. I can recommend one of my favorite fellow TH-camrs who channel is all about traveling and great places to see and he has a complete series dedicated to Vietnam, Paddy Doyle! The one place I recommend if you get up toward Hanoi is the Ha Giang Loop. Paddy has an awesome video on it! Hope this helps!
Mate can I ask why you left florida for Asia? I've always wanted to visit florida if not settle there from the UK, I'm currently in Thailand. Do you rent your florida home on airbnb?
Hi, and first, thanks for watching! Why I left Florida?!! Well, several reasons, starting with the cost of living. In the recent years since COVID prices have escalated drastically! The home I was renting for $875 p/mo. went up to $1,650. Once I retired it was just not affordable to me anymore, and I wasn't going to keep working just to live in Florida. Secondly, Have been planning for 10 years to leave the US when I retired and I've gotten so tired of the political landscape in the entire US that I got to the point that I just didn't want to live anywhere in the country. Hate, has consumed America. If I were you, I would stay in Thailand.
Since currently there is no retirement visa for vn. Do you just get the 90 day visa and keep doing border runs. What the expense for that. I heard there are companies that actually take you over just so can get your passport stamped and then repeat every 90 days. Is this true
@@stephanmartin5030 true there are many companies that offer the service and the bus, comfy bus, that you pay and they take you over the border and they handle all the visa stuff for you and it’s less than a couple hundred bucks. I’ve never done that, because I don’t live in Vietnam full-time, because I travel full-time. The trip is less than one full day. And most cases at starts out late at night day and you return back to Vietnam midday the next day. Thanks for watching!
@ExpatGlobetrotter very interesting. I plan on getting my my residence in Mexico and traveling to vn a few months a year. Thank you for responding so quickly
@@stephanmartin5030 you’re welcome. Wow! Mexico requires huge savings or income for residency! Good for you! Whereabouts? I traveled there for 6 months. My favorite place was Progreso, on the coast of the Yucatán north of Merida. Best wishes!
@ExpatGlobetrotter yeah not cheap for sure. Oaxaca. The requirements have definitely increased. But once you get it, you never have to renew. Permanent residence, need to show like 300k in savings or temporary residence needs 77k. I'm in the process, it's not hard but I would get an attorney, much easier
I completely hear you about Airbnb, trust me. I had a pathological liar host add a bunch of lies about me and it has been hard to rent ever since. I don't have time to bid on 3-4 places before someone accepts me, nevermind the disgusting hosts in places like the US or France who expect you to clean the place with a toothbrush down to the last speck while still charging a fortune for cleaning. But booking sadly isn't a solution either. It really depends on the city & country. In some places, Booking has just as good or even better places at the same or less cost. In other places, booking has absolutely nothing. Literally, nothing. Or only hotels that are $3000-5000 per month. So unfortunately, I have to be pragmatic and realize Airbnb is a company I have to stay on good terms with.
First of all, thanks for watching. I’m trying something new right now that if it works I will do, or include in a video. The problem is the place I have just booked using this system is in Thailand and I won’t be there until end of July. Stay tuned!
Thank you very much for this informative video, especially about the travel insurance company. First, I will research them for my upcoming 90- day extended vacation. Second, could you share with me, step by step, your e-visa process? I am based in southern California.

Just curious. What was the problem with Airbnb? I'm heading to Da Nang in July and will visit Hoi An while there as well. Would like to know the name of the hotel you stayed at for $10. Appreciate it. Thanks for the video! Keep it up.
If you’re in Hoi An isn’t it better to checkout the accommodation before booking somewhere? I buy sandels of the shelf here in Thailand, they are only around $5, very comfortable, which is great as I’am size 48/12 and last me at least 3 years 😊
More complete than most internet budgets, but what about visa costs ? Medications ? Health insurance ? (Travel insurance only covers accidents) I think the more comfortable budget is $2700-$3000 a month for a single individual over age 55.
Many travel insurance policies cover medical coverage as well. The policy I mentioned in the video will United Healthcare covers medical 100%. Most typical medication are $8 for a month supply. The expenses I showed are including all these expenses and still less than $1,200 p/mo. My first Vietnam video shows a medication purchase. It would be real hard to spend $3,000 p/mo in Vietnam unless you were renting a 3 bedroom condo right on the beach and eating all western foods at restaurants every day. Thanks for watching!
We are hosts and use airbnb, booking, vrbo and trip advistors. Booking is by far the WORST of them all. None of them are perfect but as time passes you'll discover how bad booking is, if you continue to use them.
Thanks for watching. So far although I’m happier with Booking my goal is to work around them all. This raises a few questions I would like to ask you. 1. As a Host would you prefer guests try to contact you directly without using the platforms, and if so would/do you offer a better rate? 2. Where is your STR? 3. You may not recall the platform models prior to the “booking” platforms but they used to be a website that owners posted their properties (an ad) on and managed all the inquiries and bookings in their own. We had booking calendars so people could look at dates that were available. The only cost to the owner was a reasonable annual cost of the ad, maybe $130 or so, I don’t really remember. Would you prefer it to return to a model like this?

I’m finding more that I use Booking . Com it offers some really nice discounts the more you book through them. The other benefit that Booking offers that I REALLY like is a large portion of their listing do not require payment until arrival and also offer cancellation without a fee in many cases up to like 24 to 48 hours before arrival. That’s a huge benefit to me as I find my world has become more ever changing in my travels. I still often do my best to work around any and all of the booking platforms because that’s when I find that the savings is the best.

I booked from Booking dot com. If you've watched many of my videos I think that you know by now that I HIGHLY recommend before settling down in any location to travel to many places, cities, and countries. I still, have not found any one place that I would say, "THIS IS THE PLACE"! I don't know, maybe I never will, and if not, that's okay too, I'll keep traveling looking for the perfect place for me! You will find good information throughout my videos. I try to create them just for the purpose of spending enough time in each location to get a real feel for the area so I can pass the information on to my viewers. I'm looking forward though to Malaysia after Sri Lanka. I have a strong feeling about both Kuala Lumpur and Penang. I'm also interested to see what Hua Hin is like here in Thailand, I'm almost as excited about there as well. I'm thinking of flipping back and forth between them every 90 days and no need for visas.

More complete than most internet budgets, but what about visa costs ? Medications ? Health
insurance ?
