They not used to black people LIKING their blackness. They want her to water it down with some straight extensions, skin bleach, and possibly blue eye contacts.
And look at YaYa now.. famous tv star..I love her, and why would anyone try and proof their african-ness gurl she is AFRICAN! She black! W..the fuck does a black person need to prove how African she is as a South African I'm offended by this
I am glad. I saw this video of Yaya on Jessica’s channel and I loved her right then. She was incredibly brave for standing up for her culture. And as far as I care, Tyra could just disappear.
Yasssss legit Tyra justified the beauty industry being a toxic place just because this "famous" person is a publicist like that doesnt give her a reason yo Tyra would hate me lol the minute someone disrespects me I'm like nooooo sir(wags finger)😂
literally. Like is there smth wrong w defending yourself when someone insults you? or? is she not allowed to be upset? absolutely ridiculous shit and none of those ppl act like professionals. If you can't stand to be corrected then you shouldnt be judging ppl.
At least they didn't go a step further and make a black girl white in the same episode. It's racist either way, though. I don't understand why they thought that was ok. -_- Especially since Tyra is black herself.
So they are mad she dressed even slightly like her culture, but also mad she didnt choose the hat, and also mad she explained her reasoning...like wow yall just racist.
That’s all facts and they didn’t even let her explain herself and she said that’s not kente because it was cheep and I can see it because I’ve worn African clothes before and I love them and her not letting her express her culture and being mean because she didn’t wear the hat that she wanted her to wear that is messed up even for me and rude but not racist because I’m black/Dominican and if I hear someone say something about my culture that is nice then I’m fine with it but when they say something mean then I’m going off and I will cuss them out and I would do the same that I did with someone else who said something about Dominican republic
Right? They really sat there and wanted her to choose a stereotyped, fake African garment, but then got mad that she chose to be her own authentic self, opting not to wear their cheap knock off, and told her that her African-ness was forced......What???
I could listen to you saying "Tyra shut up" all day. Thank youuuuu for calling this shit out. This woman has been so problematic over decades of time, her talk show included.
Never looked at it this way but this could be true. I think it all stems from back in the day when she and Naomi where the only black models on the scene. They were low key put up against one another in horrible ways and sometimes the industry pushed them to be "whiter" in some instances. It's no surprise she acts like this. Underlying colorist too. She once told a chocolate girl she had to put on more makeup because of the color of her skin. Yet she claims to be this advocate for diversity and black women empowerment. It's a shame
The girl who didn't like Muslims and gay people was a breath away from saying I don't like black people considering the fact that she kept talking about how many black people were on the show and how many of them auditioned
She probably has lots of black friends lulz but she just personally thinks race mixing is an abomination. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if she thought that way.
As a person who faces stereotypes daily, that one scene where they were questioning her literally picking a hat because they associate it with “Africaness” broke my heart…
@@curvybeauty879 dont be, I used to, but realized she was a bully/self hate, she treat black people like crap, who's not rich, she just needs to bleach already and get it over with, she was never for the black culture! Just was a still is a horrible person.
It's almost sad, imagining what she had to go through to get to where she is while believing the racists were right. Still mad at her, tho, but it's sad
The fact that there are so many wrongs within this TV show is disgusting. Like, I think Tyra was putting these very beautiful women through hell because that was her experience through modeling. And this was her revenge to clap back at those who wronged her but in a very wrong way. Like projecting it on to others that were not her bullies. It's just really wrong.
OOOOOW THE “nononono YOU were rude to me.” “I don’t do well with rude people.” I LOVE THIS MODEL ATTITUDE. Tyra, Your title/profession is not an excuse to actually belittle another person!
Funniest was when Tyra tried to belittle her for wanting an equal amount of respect. Tyra ( along with hand actions) said there's a rank and the publicist is superior so the model should just sit back and take her condescending attitude.
i watched that season awhile ago and even tho the girl she called out was being a little rude at the beginning, the girl that decided to open up her mouth was by far the most annoying one in that season i couldn’t stand her
Lol, that "African cowgirl" thing...the first American cowboys were African American and Latino...so...it's actually a historically grounded thing, with its own proud history, for her to dress as a cowgirl.
Holy sh*t! I never actually watched this show, but from seeing just these clips, I can now say that I'm truly disgusted by it. You're sooo correct in all of the opinions that you expressed also.
If you watched the show then you know that some of them actually needed someone to remember them that they are not the center of the world tho (not talking about all of them obviously)
✨It’s the switching ethnicities and telling an African American girl to dress less African and *THEN* making a white woman dress “African” and *CHANGE* her skin color (technically blackface) for me✨
Thank you!!As an African person myself,we kinda get offended and NO we DONT keep lions as pets and yes we have houses no not huts and white people as well ,yes we have cars and proper schools

Dang, I forgot about Tyra’s reaction when they were talking to Yaya. The caption you put was so accurate and I feel bad that instead of standing up for these girls like she could have and actually making it a safe place to get into modeling and in that maybe create some positive change in the industry, she decided to punch down and make girls feel bad and try and “toughen them up” with bad experiences and an instinct to not stand up for themselves. I feel bad for her bc she caused so many people damage. She definitely wasn’t unaffected by her past.
Omg I was thinking the same thing! I've been watching her videos for quite a while now and literally her facial features are so pretty. Not to mention she seems vivacious too so that adds to it.
"We thought you'd pick the African hat" "I figured it would be cliche, plus that kente fabric is cheap and fake" "You're being defensive right now and that is NOT attractive. You need to be less African and more glam." ?????????

You’re gonna have to prove that you will allow people to treat you like absolute dirt, humiliate you, actively go against your values, and put you in actual physical danger, all with a smile on your face 😊” Edit: maybe we’re all wrong about Tyra and really this whole show was like her low key exposé about how terrible and abusive the modeling industry is. Maybe she was trying to break these contestants so they would dodge a bullet by giving up the whole model thing.
That’s a really good theory but that should be established in the beginning instead of just doing it without the contestants knowing and possibly emotionally scarring them
Tyra is basically saying that if you’re a model or work at any type of job you have to respect your co workers and bosses even tho they’re rude to you and never speak up about it, uhm, yeah I wouldn’t let co workers be rude to me or any type of bosses think they can talk to me like they want like that Corture lady does 💀 if a co worker isn’t nice and just rude I would tell on them lol

@@randomperson529 Blackface was historically used in the US to demonize and ridicule black people (look up minstrel shows). But in the context of the show, it's disrespectful to have white women in blackface elevated while black women are being dragged through the mud all the time. Maybe Tyra has some kind of internalized racism? I’m not sure but she doesn’t seem to respect her own culture.
It kinda feels like she wanted to be the only successful black woman of the industry or something... Inferiority complex maybe
Oo that’s an interesting insight
Never looked at it this way but this could be true. I think it all stems from back in the day when she and Naomi where the only black models on the scene. They were low key put up against one another in horrible ways and sometimes the industry pushed them to be "whiter" in some instances. It's no surprise she acts like this. Underlying colorist too. She once told a chocolate girl she had to put on more makeup because of the color of her skin. Yet she claims to be this advocate for diversity and black women empowerment. It's a shame
I hate accusing people of racism when I don't really know them, but from what I've seen that sounds pretty accurate
@@lamiascrimes7132 i agree. I also think she may lowkey hate herself.

[Girl with african heritage wearing her traditional clothes]
Tyra: No. No way.
[White girl wearing blackface]
Tyra: OMG YES YOU ARE AMERICAS NExT tOp MoDeL!!!1!!
Actually the winner of cycle 4, was in white face. The winner of cycle 13 was in Malagasy face. The winner of cycle 17 was in Michael Jackson face.
Tyra ep 3: Yaya i love that you rock dreads and want to represent as a proud african american woman.
Tyra ep 8: Yaya I hate that you changed your hair (pinned it down), take the pins out being west meets east, your afro, yes gorgeous!
Tyra ep 12: Yaya I want some white guy out in the middle of nowhere Idaho who's never seen anyone like you before, your dark skin, your big afro, wearing a dashiki and go woah, that's beautiful too."
Are you confusing and conflating Tyra, a black woman, with Rebecca Weinburg, the white "fashion" stylist GUEST judge that week? Yes ofc.
@@RecoveringChristian Just cause she praised her in different episodes, doesn’t mean it was right for her to sit back and observe racism from her colleague.
@@sorryimwrong433 not her collegue, a guest judge with a fake emmy (who's made her Twitter private suddenly). If you bothered to watch the entire exchange at panel (plus Yaya's critiques at panel on previous episodes) and the entire exchange between Yaya and Rebecca during closet walkthroughs and THEN the entire exchange between Yaya and Tocarra, you'd realize the conversation is way more nuanced than eww racism. But no one here is going to do that ;) why do work and be informed when you can let other people tell you what to be outraged by. At best, she's ignorant and tone deaf, at worst a bigot.
Also that was a sample of SOME things said, not counting the main cast of judges who repeatedly gush about how much they adore Yaya and her physical beauty.
@@RecoveringChristian lol Tyra still stood by while yaya was receiving racist comments
this show wouldn’t survive now.....as it should cause this is horrible
Would’ve been canceled after the 1 season
I half wish they had it on now so Tyra could get the MAJOR backlash that she deserves. Sis has been called out on her behavior, but I don't see her facing any repercussions...
@@Nova_3579 Fr. It’s insane how she still has influence in the modeling industry after things she did
I binge this even though it’s horrible I don’t know why I am because I hate yet love it I hate the bad parts but I love the fact that it’s helping someone achieve their dreams
You Stan BTS so your opinion is superior. 💜
They be like "lets make white girls black and black girls not so "african" " bruh what-
@Mara L fact
Why people get offended about everything rn? This is just a makeup.
@Mara L let me guess you're white. WOW white people Like that is blackface. And telling a African girl she is not African enough is offensive like if a White or black person was to tell me that l'm not African enough I will get offended .
Marie Doux no it’s not lol how are white people gonna hate on people just for being black n then paint themselves black 🤣
@@despradead it's called blackface.
@@despradead If you are nor offended, you don't hold the right to invalidate others.
let’s not forget when tyra tried to have that poor girl close her gap, and then a few season later.. had a girl with a gap as ANTM… dh🤦🏽♂️ 8:50 they just loved to gas lighting and manipulate ppl on this show that sh!t is wild. she’s not “being defensive” she explained herself and pretty well for someone who just got attacked by a bunch of white ppl for THEIR culture and everyone’s just standing around not saying sh!t.
