Joy! The superbly immodest Brigadier rides again! Absolutely brilliant! So many superbly described scenes! I love the way you enunciate the words "monstrous hypocrite!" when the angry Gerard is berating the treacherous faux priest! Very powerful! Thank you once again Greg, mon Colonel de Hussars! ❤
“…..and as I lay, awaiting my fate, I thought of the scores of lovely women who would mourn me -and of the deplorable loss my death would mean to my regiment….and to France” Gotta love this man.
Trawled up from depths of my memory - I had heard the name "Brigadier Gerard" but pronounced in an English accent. It was the name of an early 1970s racehorse.
Really enjoying this new series of stories by ACD! I see in his bibliography that there are 17 Brigadier Gerard stories - I hope that you will narrate them all. Although fictional, they are clearly well-researched and offer a fascinating look at this time in history. I also have noticed the proliferation of AI audio book and story narration, and I find them annoying. Even though some of the voices seem "human" at first, the odd pronunciations, pauses and breaks where no comma or period makes sense, and other clues soon reveal the truth. I will not listen to them, and it's unfortunate that there's no requirement to label them as AI. Greg, you are one of the finest narrators I have ever heard. Your skill and artistry in voicing distinctive characters is second to none. I particularly appreciate your ability to narrate female characters - too many male narrators wind up sounding like Dan Aykroyd playing Julia Child in an old SNL sketch. Please never stop.

Ah, good name for a horse! ‘And coming into the final furlong Brigadier Gerard leads by a head… etc’
