Guys, this video has saved my life twice now! Managed to get my tripod functioning again with a swiss army knife and leatherman pliers! Must take more tools with me on the road in future. Thanks very much.

Brilliant! My spring had broken off on the bottom. Bent it with pliers and like Dennis said, Bob's your uncle. Thank you so much for posting this.

Fair Dinkum.. you guys are the best.. I've always used manfrotto tripods and occasionally something will go wrong like the above or a broken clasp.. and you guys are always there to lend a hand.. fantastic!

Thanks so much - I just received a brand new one of these out of the box and it was stuffed, pretty disappointing. Must have been assembled on a Friday, when knock off beers were soon.
After collecting all the pieces in the box that had fallen apart, and watching your video I was able to get the base plate section working again.
All 3 geared knobs are still loose as a goose for what ever reason, hopefully I can find a video like this for them.
Thanks again mate, your a legend - appreciate your time!

Thanks very much, I've had this happen to THREE tripod heads now, and I just ended up paying so much to get the previous two fixed with constantly having this happen again. This tripod head is great to use, but absolutely rubbish with lasting.
Now that I can fix it appropriately I won't need to be coughing up so much money all the time.

This was exactly what I needed. Can't tell you how many times I'd break my thumbnail trying to take off the release plate. Now that I know how the mechanism works, it was just a matter of the tiniest adjustment to the tension, and bob's your uncle. Many thanks.

Incredibly helpful! My Manfrotto 410 was so loose that my camera actually fell off a number of times- terrifying! I though I had a faulty head, but it just needed to be tightened- thank you so much for the great info!

  • @twbrkfd1733

Had that problem too, but fixed it before I saw this video. Good to see i did it correctly. Probably would not have been an issue if Manfrotto has used threadlock!

  • @weisguyimages2387

Thank you!!! I just purchased my 3rd one this morning, as my 2nd was "broken" (which was purchased after my 1st one had this same problem). I'm not very mechanical and I didn't understand it could be a relatively simple fix. I'm really happy to have them working again.

    • @twbrkfd1733
      @twbrkfd1733 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Quite wrong that Manfrotto does not secure the screw with threadlock! Probably dozens of these have come loose and been scrapped! SUPPOSED to be a FAILSAFE mechanism.

Yep, very helpful video. Thanks for doing this. Such a simple fix, but not necessarily intutive and a little intimdating if you don't know where to dig in. This video is specific and well done.

To help prevent screw from eventually backing out and looseness use Loctite 222 Purple low strength on the threads after cleaning the threads with acetone. Use sparingly. It will cure once tightened anaerobically (in the absence of Oxygen). Use only this 222 as you will be able to service this again and again if needed.

Great video, but it’s strange that in the metric ball hex key set that I have, the key that works says 3, not 1.5. And, by the way, I highly recommend a ball hex key if you can get one. I find that it’s much easier.

Did as you said, but the plate does not snap anymore when you put the camera on, have to lock it manually. Spring wasn't broken. Not sure what else is not in the right place.

I love their stuff, but the springs they use are their Achilles heel. That and plastic parts that hold all the tension from a spring and can unexpectedly fail. I finally replaced my XPRO that doesn't hold the camera steady because the plate wobbles because the spring holding the quick release lever is not robust enough and weakens with use with a 410. Sucks that I have to get a whole set of plates again and that plate is ridiculous on a small camera the XPRO plate is fine with compact cameras.

The part I seem to be missing is that little center cylinder that locks the arm in place when its at the other end of the spring tension. Not sure what that is or how to get it.

Sir that is a very welcome and interesting video. No dis intended but the allen key quoted as 1.5mm is actually a 3mm and may be substituted by a 1/8 inch if you are a Yank. Thanks for great vid.

The reason the leg on the torsion spring broke in the first place is it was probably NOT properly heat treated. Bending the leg will NOT last. The spring has been heat treated and bending will overstress the metal and cause a breakage. Get a new one!

I just got the 410 today. I’ve noticed that the locking arm when the plate is on the head only closes half way. But without the plate on there it goes all the way to the end. Is that normal ?
