GadgetsNGear This has been on Drive+ for months. Honestly, it's worth the 3 or 4 dollars a month for the extra content with no commercials easy. But, it seems like everything of quality over there, trickles down to here. You guys will probably be seeing a video about an insane 930 turbo, and a 1000 hp honda odyssey soon.
Damn, Matt. 6.29 is a good deal for a Santa's Little Helper. I hope you stocked up. Gotta make a trip to BevMo after work now... Awesome video as always.
I remember the first time I read about ICON how impressed I was, so much so that I went to their website to spec and price one out. Wholly smokes - the price of almost 2 Range Rovers! That's too bad, as while I'm sure they're extremely capable off road, how many folks are going to take a six figure rig like this out and possibly get it scuffed up?
Mr Farah . Nice . The calm quality of the vehicle / company , seamed to rub off on you in the reporting . So , if the steering of this Toyota was that which is required / needed in this type of vehicle , is there anything in the current crop of offering , that comes to a similar or better level ? Range Rover ?
aww yeah. i just listened to the podcast featuring this by happenstance at work. come home to this. thank you @Thesmokingtire. and now that I posted a youtube comment matt farah hates me.
I much prefer Matt in these vids as opposed to the One Take vids; and hey... what ever happened to the fox body stang? I would love to see some updates on that bad boy. Love your work all in all though Matt, keep it up!
Out of all the ICON trucks I've see on the Internet, I've never seen a clip of someone really putting one of these rigs through it's paces. I must say I was quite disappointed to see that this was no different.
OGBrut ICON does not have any demo vehicles, such as a manufacturer like Ford or GM would. And that's because they don't need them; their waiting list is 14 months long, with or without our press coverage. Every car is sold at least 24 months before it's actually delivered. So this was a customer car, and the customer specified certain rules if we were going to borrow it for the day. If we want the privilege of driving the best, sometimes we have to play by their rules. Way it goes.
Good vid Matt. Awesome to the point where only tiny adjustments could hope to improve it and in fact only one I can think of. Which is, you know, if it's not too much to ask, could you ring me up and explain just WTF you're on about? Esp your opening monologue. Email? Mmmmm, well, see, thing is....I thought of that so I transcribed those opening words onto a whiteboard so I could take them to the people and ask random strangers to explain for me. The excercie became a round of 'telephone' straight away - although the exercise profited unexpectedly when we realized its potential as a drinking game. OK, srry, having a laugh - gr8 vids all 'round.
That is not a 5.7 LS motor. Matt is lying or was lied to about the motor. The Vortec engine cover this truck displays only came on 5.3 and 6.0 truck motors. Its's easy to just swap out covers but it wouldnt make any sense for someone to prefer the truck cover over a more stylish car cover.
D&B Speed Team they actually use the the 5.7 and now the 6.2 with the 6.0 vortec truck intake because it gives a more useful torque curve for these vehicles.
Love ICONs builds. Every. Single. One. Some prefer to do their own work and can still admire someone who is able to dream aloud and make a profit while doing so. Hey Jonathan, any work on a supposed all-electric futuristic model in the works utilizing Tesla's sedan drivetrain? I'd love to see someone stuff the P85Ds twin motors and batteries into an early model roadster..
I believe icon represents everything that is wrong with the hobby. They buy up all the vehicles pricing out the average guy who would put blood sweat and tears into a build and actually use the truck off roading like it was designed for. The Incon trucks are a status symbols for the wanna be. it'll get parkedin a garage for months at a time until he hires a mechanic to fix the dead battery so he can go to a car show and rev the LS motor!
Mekhanic1 What a cynical way to look at this. To think those trucks were all built to be backyard projects for average weekend warriors is extremely self-centered and naive. If anything, you should be thanking Ward and his company for making your average Joe's back burner project worth something. Also, who are you to declare how people should spend their money, let alone how they should use the things they do buy? By the way, if you don't think blood, sweat and tears go into Icon builds, you're missing the point entirely. The biggest difference between Icon's trucks and your abstract, weekend warrior project is one of them works and drives the part. Not to mention the fact that a lot of Icon trucks started out as clapped out throwaways, which your backyard pals would probably part out or scrap. Need I mention the jobs, business and general interest Ward has brought to the very hobby you're describing? Next time you want to tell the world what's up, try putting an ounce of thought into it. If you have already, quit while you're behind.
You mad? I've never seen an Icon truck off road or on a camping trip. You contradict yourself and are being a hypocritical in your own rebuttal. Self built trucks don't work? Ridiculous. I started my comment with "I believe;" don't be so offended. No hard working, average guy is going to scrap a $10,000 Toyota. Again, the point I am making is that when these companies and other various flippers buy up all the cars, it just artificially drives the price up. When Mustangs, Chevys, Land Cruisers etc., all cost over $120k for these "designer" builds, nobody drives them anymore. The truck can be built cheaper and better and not have to be a status symbol.
Mekhanic1 What an unoriginal, troll remark. No I'm not, as it happens. I'm not offended either. Nothing you write or express in any way could offend me. I never said self-built trucks don't work. I'm willing to bet they don't work as well, especially when it comes to refinement and longevity. Funny you should mention status symbols. Your entire complaint is hinged on the status of building your own truck and the romance involved in doing that. Also, what about the people whose trucks are now worth more? You're gonna sit there and tell me that's a bad thing? That's before I ask how you know vintage car appreciation is made artificial by companies like Icon 4x4. This is a case where small-volume manufacturing has drum up interest in vehicles people really didn't care about before. It means people will work harder to preserve them and restore them to a higher degree. The only valid-ish point you could make here is that your abstract, "hard-working", average Joe now has to pay a higher cost of entry to start his backyard project--which is extremely self-centered as I know I already mentioned. Get this idea that these trucks should only exist for weekend warriors with thin wallets to tinker with out of your head.
I felt some disappointment when he said it had an LS. And i don't think i will ever get these high-priced one off's either. Im waiting for the day i see one and go "wow i don't care its that much i want it!" instead of "yeh pretty cool i don't really see the point for that money though"
Land cruisers are decent old trucks but the Nissan Patrol came first. Outside of North America Nissan Patrols are the 4x4ing standard especially in Asia and Australia. I wish Nissan brought them to North America so we could see comparisons of these two icons.
I've always thought it was the US that asked Japan to build a military vehicle comparable the Jeep because they needed to make money after we dropped the bombs on them?
I think his cars are awesome.. I love his cars.. But honestly... Even if I had the money, I don't think I'd actually buy one. Just on the premise... That I still don't think they should be that expensive.. I mean starting at $125 grand? Come on.... I could go out and buy an Audi R8 or BMW M6 with that. AND they just START at $125 grand... If you wanted to get one of his real good ICONS.. Then you're paying $160 grand plus... I mean, this truck is awesome... But it's between $175-200 K..... ARE you kidding me.... Yea, if I was Jay Leno rich I'd fucking get one... But that ain't happening. Crazy...

sorry to say this but im REALLY disappointed at this episode... so so much detail left out it felt like a half assed sponsored episode that you guys weren't really in to doing..
***** Insightful. Today I am picking on you for posting...who knows? The sentence has a working structure, but it's unclear if there are missing words or grammar. Where's your context? Without context it means very little, though I'm sure it was absolute gold when you posted it. I'm choosing to hear it as spoken by a petulant teenager 'meh meh meh meh Chevy engine meh meh meh meh'. Without adequate grammar I can do that; but also because I'm drunk and feeling hostile towards the lazy and those who choose to express themselves in grunts rather than making their meaning clear. I hope that my meaning is clear...get it together and stop wasting everyone else's time by posting crap! Yes, I realise that I'm posting crap. But I know that I do and I'm willing to back it up with infinite yards of verbiage that might actually make sense, though I might withdraw it when I sober up.
Meh. Johnathan's attention to detail with many of his builds is all about the OCD, but they are still pretty simple, pretty formulaic builds. Oh, and Farah sucks at offroad.
Disappointing review. Can't believe you didn't mention the suspension design that icon does - probably the only reason you'd bother getting one. So boring off road, you were just driving down a gravel road that any 2WD could have gone done. "It just rolls over stuff". Such a bland and boring review...
x111 x111 as far as origin goes there aren’t many Japanese parts left on these. The hood and the vin plate are about it. U.S. engine, trans, axels, brakes, bumpers, interior, lights. Canada built bodies. Jeep and Icon are chasing different market segments. No one who buys this is seriously cross shopping it against a Jeep.
Been waiting for this ever since the ICON podcast.

I'd like to see what would Jonathan Ward do with a J70 Landie. These are the best!
I accidentally watched this video because the thumbnail looked like a Defender haha didn't realise until 2 minutes in :')
Brian, one is the brakes the other is the emergency brakes
Damn, Matt. 6.29 is a good deal for a Santa's Little Helper. I hope you stocked up. Gotta make a trip to BevMo after work now...
Awesome video as always.
It's my dream to one day own a tlc fj40.
Anyone else got a 3 minute ad that's not skippable?
Thanks for exposing me to Kramer knives. Going to order a few.
Made in America or rebuilt in America, especially when they use the corvette motor, kinda cool.

Nice but not $100,000+ nice.
Icon is a close second to the Navistar SOTV-B.
aww yeah. i just listened to the podcast featuring this by happenstance at work. come home to this. thank you @Thesmokingtire. and now that I posted a youtube comment matt farah hates me.
2:24 - when the camera gets closer on the side guard - look up into the sky !!
SERIOUSLY - WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?
jezwah a plane?
jezwah They sped up the video there so yea looks like something unusual.
Matt, they still sell this boxy Land Cruizer in the middle east.
That was fantastic.
I much prefer Matt in these vids as opposed to the One Take vids; and hey... what ever happened to the fox body stang? I would love to see some updates on that bad boy. Love your work all in all though Matt, keep it up!
8:16 it looks like there is 2 rear brake calipers? the red lower one and the black upper.
TheSmokingTire is that Allagash Curieux? It's my favorite beer.
can you do a review on the fj60 or fj62 model!?
I could just go ahead and get one of these and a CJ-5 done the same way only with a 4.0L that would be awesome.
Looks like front door is loose and doesn't shut completely ? Is it soposed to be like that ?
Out of all the ICON trucks I've see on the Internet, I've never seen a clip of someone really putting one of these rigs through it's paces. I must say I was quite disappointed to see that this was no different.

Im sure its been said a hundred times. but great job making a jk unlimited
Matt, please compare the ride and handling to the Raptor that you sold.
John Carder The ride is better than the Raptor in most instances. The steering is much better too.
Nice unions.

is it possible to watch drive the shows that aired on tv?
