Brent...... thank you so much for remodeling our deck! You did a fabulous job and we felt very lucky to have you complete this project for us! We love what you did and love the railing system as well! Thank you for being so knowledgeable, communicative and responsible! A+++
Well done!!
Great to see the client make a comment!
Many thanks and enjoy your new wonderful deck!
Mike from Barcelona.
One of the all time best clients I've ever had. Not just sawing that because you left me a good review either haha :) Thanks so much for the kind words and hope you enjoy this amazing deck for years and years to come.
Brent - I watch a ton of TH-cam vids and I almost never comment. I wanted to tell you that I am very impressed with this cable railing system. But more importantly I am super impressed with your video. No muss no fuss no bs side conversations and no re do's of explanations. Additionally, you have a great voice for videos. Well done Brent. jwb
Love hearing that Jerry and thanks so much for all the support along the way. My passion is to help others learn how to build so its always extremely nice to hear from individuals like yourself who appreciate the time and energy spent to creating fun, educational and straight forward tutorial videos.
Wow! What a great system. Thanks for sharing that. Makes me wish I had a need for a raised deck! I'll need to check to see if they make it in white and just as a step rail.
sweet I love the ease of these post and guide rail cables
Wow, that looks so good! Love that system too! Good job!
Thanks Brother! Love how this system finished off everything and made the installation process so much easier.
Brent, you did an exceptionally amazing job with this unique and cool railing system!
I like your commentary and style of this video which made it easy to follow!
I want this railing system on my deck that I am about to redo.
Well done, Brent!
Great rail system...already clicked the link and saved it. Thank you
Wow, now I know what railings I want to use when I build my deck.. thanks!
Another informative video, great content👍
That is an excellently efficient railing system! Will have a look for it and see if it is available in Europe.
Thanks for sharing matey!
Once again another professional quality job!
All the best to you and your family.
Mike from Barcelona
Thanks so much for the kind words Mike. Truly appreciate all the support and glad to know I have fans from across the pond :)
Just the truth, you do a great job and was very happy to see your client's comment. Well deserved! All the best matey!@@BYOTools
Needs to be available in white my deck and railing all Barrett great products
Pro TH-camr! Thanks so much!
Market demand meets free enterprise - beautiful thing. 😊
This is a really cool system. I saw Perkins Brothers Builders install the same system last week.
It would be nice if they made a 45° corner post since my future deck will be a square with a clipped corner. A drink rail would also be cool.
Gotta say I was gobsmacked by this system.
Thanks for the info! What are the make and part number of the lag bolts that were used?
What does the structure look like below these posts? Need to see the joists and blocking it's screwing into.
You might want to consider….
Reading for audio books.
Your enunciation is crisp, your cadence is soothing & draws one into the convo because you seem genuinely interested in the subject matter.
Great work, Brent. The entire deck with railing looks awesome. What is the cost of such railing?
That is definitely a very sexy deck system. I just built a large deck with stainless steel cabling so I totally appreciate the modularity of this system. I'm curious though how you can get something like that to pass code. With a deck over 30 in high those posts need to be 42 in tall and with all that leverage and only four bolts holding it from the top I don't think it would be stiff enough to withstand the 200 lb test load at the very top which can't deflect more than about an inch and a half. I could see when you were trying to "plumb" the post that there was quite a bit of flex on your base deck. I did watch your video building the deck but I didn't really see enough blocking underneath where the post mount to secure them even with that lovely structural screw which I often use from Simpson SDWS Timber screw. The span between your posts was over 4 ft which normally wouldn't pass code here without an intermediate support for the wires. Maximum gap allowed is 4 in and even with the fancy tensioning system I doubt you could prevent it from opening up in the middle to 4 in.
this railing works if you're building a basic rectangular deck. I have angle cuts in the corners, which looks better, but the railing connections had to swivel to work. Trex makes swivel connectors, which were very expensive.
Nice videos. Very helpful. (Just a respectful FYI - The term is "Plumb" for vertical lines.) It looked as though you may not have hit a joist on all fasteners for that 6-bolt corner post. I was hoping that you'd cover placement of fastening blocks withing the joist system for the railing system during the deck install. Did I somehow miss your tutoring on that ?
Great system! Would have been good to address the structural framing requirement under the decking needed for the post fasteners to hit solid wood for stability and post security.
How do you change the swing of the gate? Any help is appreciated.
Nice. But I would have used some construction adhesive with the screws. Screws always loosen over the long haul.
My dad recently installed one of these aluminum rail/steel cable systems for a relative. The original quote was over $26,000 for the materials alone.
How well will this hold up on beach front property?
Amazing job (as usual)! Can you please provide a link to the deck lights on the floor you put in (round ones that seem solar powered)? They seem really nice!
Thanks so much for the kind words and I just put the light links in the description of the video. Thanks so much for asking and the client LOVES them.
I love your videos.
Is there any chance we can meet this coming IBS to talk about aluminum products that we produce, interested in sponsoring you.
Thank you and looking forward.
I went on a deck inspection yesterday. I'm an engineer and honestly never though about permitted decks needing a special letter for handrails outside of the realm of pickets. Odd stuff.
Been looking at this for some time but cannot find anyone local for it. I have contacted the company directly but they were not responsive
Wow, that seems like a great solution and it looks great as well! BTW, "plumb" not "level" 😁
Not sure if the links are all correct. Looked at the link for the Cable Rail Kit (5' Wide) and it come up with Deck Stair Cable Rail Kit 36 inch, and if you look up the stair link it shows, Deck Stair Cable Rail Kit but 42 inch tall... Is the 6ft rail kit the only one available? Don't see it on the Barrette web site.. Thanks...
Does RDI have an integrated graspable handrail system?
Where to you get prices on this railing? Very interested in this.
Great project!
Looks like the screws securing the posts to the deck are not perpendicular to the deck. Is this just the shoot angle or is this deliberate? If deliberate, why? Holding power? Minimize structure members splitting? Also, the end post screws (4:26) are different-why?
he needs to use an extension on the Dewalt Drill so that the angle of drilling will be more perpendicular.
wow
Well done was that a 36 or 42 in height? Also looks like home depot sells this kit?
definitely takes some planning....or luck......to make sure you hit a joist with every screw.
I would only buy this if they offer a sleeve post over 4x4 lumber. I do not trust a post only held over top by 4 screws.
Those rails were moving all over as you were touching them.
Fast like this usually means expensive!
If I used that rail system, it would cost more than my house.
Level or Plumb?
Plumb.....
In construction or carpentry, the term plumb refers to a line or feature that is perfectly vertical.
I started to price this out and quickly realized it was going to end up costing 1 Bazillion. *sigh* oh well. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nice! But I think having that much space on my steps being consumed by the railing system might bother me.
I am going to say this looks a bit expensive, especially the corner posts. I'm not sure I would this, would recommend some cost analytics at the end of the video.
Um is called plumb. Not level. The deck should be level. The post plumb.
you take the effort to write that comment and nothing else.
can't wait to see you make some videos of your work, share them and be a nobody! as in nobody is perfect.
seriously some people!?!?!
why even bother writing that stuff, how pathetic and insignificant your life must be to take the time to do that.
what value do you add??
give you a hint... = 0
be polite and respectful or keep your trap shut!
people like you are what make social media so toxic.
hope you have a great day, even though you obviously never wish that for anyone!!
Unloosen ?
That's great except a deck railing cannot create a ladder effect by code
Very nice Job ! Remember ??Post are plumbed ! Not Level .retired custom home builder , trade school and former Boss ?? What do you mean its level ??? Ha . Gene Inman
Horizontal cable rails are not to code in my area as they pose a climbing hazard for small kids. Post should never be connected top down, should be a side connection to the beam with through bolts, way stronger.
So you break the cable and the whole system has to be replaced
Great video, but it’s plumb when it’s vertical not level (horizontal).
Way over priced for working class Americans. A quick price check on that little deck there is over $6,000. Corporate greed is out of control here.
Holy crap! That's about $500 a section. 12mm tempered glass railings cost half as much, look better, and easier to install than this (auto tilt, and leveled with shims). But they are a little harder to clean. On the other hand, these will provide a perfect base for spider webs, and the glass railings wouldn't... So these might need cleaning more often.
I'm rebuilding my deck in the spring and this railing system looks great for a novice like myself. Then I priced it out. $7500-8000 for the entire deck. I think I'll be going in a different direction.
Then don’t buy it… how’s this corporate greed? Any idea the cost to being a product like this to market and the cost to manufacture it? It ain’t cheap my friend.
Wow, at that price point that’s a big pass for me. My total composite flooring is only costing me $2K, so 3x for the railing system is a showstopper
Not sure about corporate greed , but more like the engineering is what you pay for.
Unnecessarily expensive due to its complexity. I'm not sure who this is marketed to, but I have a difficult time seeing a do-it-yourselfer using something like this and certainly don't see a pro using it.
This railing system is an excellent example of taking something that is very simple and making it is complicated as possible.
Cost???
Beautiful but that railing is like 3x the price of my deck
A 6’ straight chunk of this is $320. I really like the look of this rail but it’s way overpriced.
Also very unsafe for children as you basically installed a ladder.
Nice product but too expensive. Extruded aluminum, plastic molded parts… do not justify price in the stratosphere. If money is no object then go for it.
Nice railing but why do youtubers speak like this
Once you look into the exorbitant cost of this extremely over engineered rail system you will realize that it's not for you! Also if you have children you may want to reconsider providing what is basically a ladder for them to climb over and fall off the deck.
You can build a wood railing much faster than this cheap chinese crap
Not as clean look as others!🤦♂🤦♂
Outrageously expensive. No thanks
These are amazing! We just used these on an amazing pool side open concept deck. @prestige_renovation_
All railing products are linked in the video description if interested. Thanks so much for watching.
