I met Paz in the Tropicana casino after he lost to Roy Jones Jr. and Paz was great , I didn't even have to say anything...he was just a gracious dude. He has a great heart.

I never cared for this guy. Have zero reason for that. This interview makes me regret that and puts in perspective how great if a man he is. If you can't love this guy you can't love boxing. He sums it's up well . He won 50 fights, in an era where you fought everyone if you wanted to be great . He did just that. Tough human being right there man. Thanks for the memories V P. Your a champ in life !

@@888mafo thank you brother. It comes from deep within my heart. Wish I could have met him in person. But who knows right. Still time. You tell him this.... Steubenville, Ohio loves him. The whole town. We come from a tough old steel town. Vinny, Ray Mancini, Kelley Pavlik. That's our people. Real fucking people. Cheered for him like he was one of our own. Take care and thanks again

Vinnie was the ultimate showman and brought smoke into every one of his fights. I worked for my friend's family, who are Sicilian, and we watched all of Vinny's fights on ESPN and HBO while working in their Pizzeria in NJ. All of us jumped up and down every time Vinnie was fighting. I tried modeling myself after Vinnie and his boxing style. He had great head movement; he never got the credit he deserved. I was boxing in an unfortunate situation, and I would tell the guy I was sparring "Yeah, this how Vinnie does it" Lol!!!

No one could block punches with their face like Vinny. He would routinely get cut putting a T-shirt on.

Vinny Paz was a product of the time & what a wild time it was. As entertaining and brave as Vinny was, his value to me is as a warning regarding the dangers of head trauma. Vinny's supernatural ability to endure punishment should be a warning about why boxing as a sport has to implement precautions to protect participants. Regimes that allow and require people to endure sustained head trauma are fundamentally dangerous and we must strive to make the sport safer. Regardless of what you may, or may not read between the lines of these words, people who use illegitimate means not only endanger others, but they likely also endanger themselves. Love the sport enough to fight clean & responsibly. There should be an obligation on us fans to not unduly worship those there are those lingering rumours regarding their conduct, nor for platforms to provide uncritical coverage. We need to understand reality and not treat boxing as though it is professional wrestling.

    • @888mafo

You are absolutely right, punches can't be taken away from the sport, obviously, but outside of the ring there are things that can be done to make the sport safer, as part of the WBC, I can say that many steps have been taken to reduce and prevent as much as possible neurological and physical damage to the boxers. We are still striving to implement more safety rules, including protecting boxers from themselves because as Vinny has said, back in his days, he would sparr frequently even without headgear. We are doing our best, even with the resistance of many that don't like change in the sport. Thank you very much for your opinion.

@@888mafo I wonder if there a flip of the moral horizon approaching regarding the legacy of so-called "Greats" (including great gatekeepers) who were juicing? Though we may be able to train harder, develop greater aerobic fitness and strength, the fundamental limitation of the thickness of skulls and the ability of our brain to endure punishment is likely almost entirely unaffected by the advances of modern science. If the boxers aren't doing it naturally, they're not really doing it themselves (this includes therapeutic Use Exemptions "TUE"). The tendency to look for an edge is a very human one, as seemingly is our appreciation of the application of skilled violence. Likely to discard the legacy of all those who were unable to resist the temptation of using a forbidden edge means that the history of the sport will look very bare for several decades historically. Professional sport sadly seems to be merely a tool for the powerful to distract the masses from their less than moral political and business dealings, though perhaps for any working slob, we are forever likely to be a cog in a larger game run by others. Contact sports of various kinds seems to faced with a similar set of challenges regarding keeping participants healthy and maintaining the appreciation of fans. For boxing effective headgear is likely a buzzkiller, but the discussions & reforms need to take place. Not one of us holds all the answers and there is much learning to occur. I urge the WBC to lead the dance, rather than follow if greater times for sport are to exist in the future. The best defence is not to be hit.

If you talk to Vinnie, please tell him i'm his biggest fan and will buy him a couple beers if he's ever in the Netherlands. Unfortunately i'm sick and can't fight anymore, due to non boxing related sickness, so all i can do is try to meet my fellow warriors/heroes. Please forward this to Vinnie. You changed my life Vinnie, i'm a fighter like you, no matter how bad the times, i will keep fighting for everything i love, maybe not in the ring, but fighting is fighting, whether it's mental, or physical. I have a disease that makes me extremely tired at times... But i'm fighting.

He looks great and speaks as if he has never been in the ring. I wonder why some boxers don't get any brain damage. The same for most of the Mexican boxers. They have no speech issues later in life. Maybe it is the weight class. This guy is like 60 years old.
