EPIC Buttercream Space, Planets & Moon Birthday Cake! | How to Cake It

- This week's cake had to be both gorgeous and delicious (oreo buttercream anyone?), as it was for a very special someone - Connie's nephew Cristian who is turned 1 years old! To celebrate Cristian's "1st trip around the sun", the birthday party was space themed, so I decided to make a space cake that revolves ; ) around planets. Cristian's mom provided me with the party's color palettes (lots of blues) and a request for a buttercream exterior and then left the rest of the vision and creative to me. yay! I chose to make 2 tiers of double barrelled sky-blue buttercream covered cake, topped with a 1/2 tier fondant moon, adorned with hand painted planets, sprinkle stars and topped with handmade rocket and astronaut candles from the small and talented team at Southlake gifts. Epic!

If this feels too advanced or like too much cake for you (maybe it's a smaller party?) I strongly recommend making the moon cake on it's own! Imagine how adorable it would be? and it is quite simple to make!

My grandson is now 29. When he was little-around6-8 he was playing a video game of playing a guitar. He thought he was going to be a rock-n-roll star 😊 SO I made him a 3 foot red guitar. I had no idea what I was doing so I bought a plastic blow up guitar balloon to use as a model.
lol 😂 it took me 3 days to complete but the joy learning from nothing was wonderful & everyone loved it! So fun 🤩 love your Creative genius!!!❤

It was so much fun watching you research the appearances of each planet, so that you could replicate them. For lots and lots of years in science classes, I helped students remember the order of the planets with the mnemonic “My very eager mother just served us nine pizzas.” Last year, I returned to substitute for a science teacher who was on maternity leave and discovered that since Pluto has been relegated to dwarf planet status, the mnemonic has been switched to “My very eager mother just served us nachos.”

I made my daughters first birthday cake! It was winne the pooh themed, 2 tiers, top tier was a bee hive liked you'd see hanging from a tree. It had all the characters, Rabbit had a garden with some vegetables and Eeyore even had his house. It took me so long but everyone loved it 🥰

I made both my son's first birthday cakes. The most complicated one I've ever made was replicating your Pokeball cake for my oldest son's 15th birthday. It took both me and my husband to accomplish it!

The moon tier is a good beginner cake!! You can start with that. If you can find a sphere pan
I’m born on Halloween and every year for my birthday my mom uses a 3D pumpkin mold to make me a cake. It never turns out perfect but it’s made with love ❤

Such a stunning cake. I love space. 🌌🚀I need to make myself a simple version of the cake for my 40th birthday in July. The first cake I made my kiddo was Candy Land themed. She loved all things colorful. Nowadays its Stitch or Roblox. She definitely gets set on a specific thing as she ages.

I've made all 3 of my son's birthday cakes.... 1st he had a fresh prince themed cake, 2nd was a rotating car rim for his " 2 fast 2 curious" themed party, and his 3rd was construction themed cake.

This isn't an old video at all! This is brand new. I made it earlier this month but with interview and editing it just took a few weeks before launching it!

Some of the hardest cakes I made were a Frozen castle cake and a Canada goose cake (for my daughters) but the best one was inspired by your fault line galaxy cake for my son. It also featured the paw patrol pups because he was 4 🤷🏻♀️😂
I made all my son’s birthday cakes. I’m not very talented at cake decorating, but he loved them. Hardest one I did was a Barny cake. His face is weirdly asymmetrical. I thought Barny would be easy, but boy was I wrong. 😂 Edit: Barny is a purple dinosaur if you aren’t familiar. He was really popular with pre-school kids in the 90’s. Not sure if he’s popular anymore honestly.
I made my child's first birthday cake. It was a white sheet cake with cake baby blocks in pastel colors. Also, pastel decorations and writing. The hardest cake I ever made for my child was a Dr. Who was Tardis.

The hardest cake I ever made was a 3 ft tall Lego red ninjago character.. I don’t even know what the name is to this day 😂. It was 8 years ago.

I always make a birthday cake for my daughter 😊 She turns 5 this year and she wants a cake in the shape of a yellow Super Mario cube with a question mark 😄 I hope it will turn out as good as the previous cakes. I made a cake in the shape of a pineapple (not as nice as yours, but I tried), Baby Shark cake, My Little Pony cake and a doll cake) 🥰

hardest bday cake I made for my kids: my oldest - I made a strawberry cake from Sugar Geek's recipe. It turned out great but it was A LOT of work! For our youngest's first birthday she got my trusty chocolate cake and it was much easier

I made your chocolate chips cookie cake for the youngest, that came out so well. Probably amongst my most ambitious efforts. That and having to slam together a cake for a wedding reception with both buttercream and fondant (because it was travelling). Not at all fancy, luckily, hippies were involved. Fondant, huh.

I made my sons first birthday cake, Thomas the Tank engine. It was his obsession at the time. I got a Thomas pan and made it chocolate, and followed the icing guide to make it look like Thomas.

Hmm good question... I think it depends what city you are in. But I would think $500 is bare minimum. Between $500 and $1200 most likely depending on the cake artist you hire and where they are based.

I know!! She did have her mom sitting with it in the backseat but it was not properly secured and the car was not cold enough so the cake slid. I do NOT miss delivering cakes! Definitely one of the most stressful parts of caking
