Awesome riding and scenery. Great to see you riding some lanes I’m familiar with. Nice gesture to donate proceeds from the vid to the trf as well. Good effort 👍🏼
Looks great - on the list to come to this part of the world and spend a few days playing! ....... although I have to admit, as a mere mortal there was a little sense of enjoyment seeing Chris finding the terrain tough in a few places (admittedly, his "few" would be my "lots" ...... but that's not the point!!)
i am glad you did not clean the section were you let air out of your back tyre. we done it in the dry and my clutch went on the rock where you got stuck on. but i did make it to the top dont no how the bike got up there. hope you are having fun in wales.
hey up chris, good to see you at ABR, glad you got to come and experience the gates of wales, hope wales didnt kick you bike around to much:-) looks like you had some good weather for your trip.
Beautiful area! It's an amazing world where we get to go along for the ride with the best riders in world. So cool. Edit: "I was not emotionally prepared for this..." occurs to me, on most rides too, but not under the same conditions. 😅
Off-road biking can be an exciting and adrenaline-filled activity one day i will ride bike like you ohh no i forget i do not have super bike like you just kidding, you guys rocking
Cant get enough of those epic stone wall fencing in Wales . Your dancing across those stones on your KTM 890 is cool. Check out Jonny Walker in Erzberg Rodeo full race for some stone hoppin 😮
Great riding skills. Just can't see much fun in those huge rock sections. Likely to do more damage to the bikes than it's worth. New 890 ADV r 14k😢 Did enjoy it though 😄
Slippery rock gardens + bike gynecology through the gate + awesome scenery 😅 it's the first time I see someone deflating a motorcycle tyre for grip, but it makes sense in that scenario.
Must be nice. If I just went riding here is Georgia and opened up a gate and rove on some dudes property I would probably get shot at. Here we only have place like Highland park to ride at and OHV trails. Sucks.
Very nice video Chris! I love that they keep popping up! :) I know suspension is personal, but how do you set yours up when you ride like this? Just the standard/sport from the manual or something else? 🤩
This bike was a stock bike, normally I run the pro component WP suspension which is fantastic. I run the clickers pretty much stock, I slid the forks down to the first line and backed off the preload on the shock a bit. No measuring just by feel. I like a bit more weight on the back wheel and bit more stability l.
@@ChrisBirchNZ yeah, I know you run the premium stuff from your other videos, I just wondered now when you've done so much stuff on other bikes 😊 Thank you!
Opening scene looks like happy Valley north wales not to far from barmouth 😊 where did you start as we ride south to North Wales regular as its in our area, you missed out the tetty trail in mid Wales, you missed out the bomb hole at strata !
Nice Video and awesome skills Chris! Why do only Ride the 890R and Not the 690R? I Ride the same Bike like you and think about the 690 because of the weight, what do you think about this Trade? Greetings from Germany!
What's the deal with all the gates? Are you getting permission to ride through other peoples properties, or is it public use trails sort of thing? It looks killer.
A great tour around some of my favourite crash sites 😅
Gr8 vid. Thanks for supporting the TRF 🤙🫡
Hopefully you felt at home Chris, when we visited NZ it reminded me very much of mid-Wales, except that Wales has a few thousand more gates!
Yes it definitely similar at times but different enough to be interesting. It’s a beautiful part of the world. Great people too.
It’s great to see you tackle lanes on our doorstep. Some fantastic lanes in wales
Awesome video! Great riding in one of my favorite country! Greetings from Germany.

As a TRF member thanks very much for your support Chris😁
Hopefully this video gets shared around a bit and we can make TH-cam cough up some real money!
So glad you enjoyed the loop mate! Hopefully see you and Andy again soon. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I hope so! If your ever in NZ…
Thank you for raising money for the TRF.
Hopefully this video gets shared around a bit and we get them some decent cash!
That's gotta be worth a nomination for "Best Wheelie of the Year!"
Awesome riding with you matey! Top tier adventures!

Wales never disappoints for Offroad riding, spectacular views, great trails and always some good wet weather 😁
And good bakery’s!
Btw… I really enjoy your vids..for the riding and especially your enthusiasm and attitude. Thank you!
Strata Florida can be challenging, but is one of my faves !!
It must be a challenge when it’s raining, that’s some deep water.
hey up chris, good to see you at ABR, glad you got to come and experience the gates of wales, hope wales didnt kick you bike around to much:-) looks like you had some good weather for your trip.
The 890 took it like a champ! Thanks KTM UK for the lend
Awesome and horrendous at the same time some crazy rocky climb yikes
Take you boys over that lot sometime 👍
Wales never fails cant beat a bit of barmuff... amazing what they can do on these big bikes I struggle up there on my two stroke
Wow, spectacular. I'm thinking the guy that has the rim and tire business in that area is doing just fine. :) Thanks for the great stuff as always!
Hi Chris, we met for a few minutes at the festival. I rode in Wales the following week and it's really a great place as we can see on your video ;)
“Gates of Wales “ 😂 cracking welsh accent too Chris !
I’m working on it boyo
I'm in North Wales...100s of miles of fantastic trails!!!
Wow, what a great ride!! I never knew that Wales had so much to offer!
it is littered with trail dreams - north to south, some more brutal than this video can show
Great to see you back in the UK Chris. Seems a long time ago when you were at West Pennine Trucks in Oswestry.
awesome riding, spectacular!
Very cool, great footage (the narrow gate was my fav).
An inch narrower and that would have been a problem!
Even the best can find this terrain tough..I’m happy now 👊

Looks like a video game😮😮🔥🔥
Great riding skills. Just can't see much fun in those huge rock sections. Likely to do more damage to the bikes than it's worth. New 890 ADV r 14k😢
Did enjoy it though 😄
It’s what they are designed for. Obviously depends on the rider but the only damage was scratch’s on the hand guards, we can live with that.
Come to peak district next week :-)
Amazing 👏 ❤
Excellent video as always Chris!!
How much tyre pressure you maintained on those hard rocks, and did you only reduce rear?
Great video. What’s the rule of thumb for lowering tyre pressures?
Slippery rock gardens + bike gynecology through the gate + awesome scenery 😅 it's the first time I see someone deflating a motorcycle tyre for grip, but it makes sense in that scenario.
It makes a big difference, give it a try some time just watch your rims on the rocks.
@@ChrisBirchNZ thank you, I will give it a try when needed, I know from 4x4ing to mind the rims 👍
Now those are proper fences! they don't build them like they used to.
Wow! Thats some of the rockiest sh!t I've ever seen.
That's awesome
I don't get how you stay on the bike. Going over those rock trails looks so chaotic.
Brilliant! What tyres you running guys? Thank you :D
@Motoeuro mitas E12 and E13
@@ChrisBirchNZ Thanks for replying :D Cheers!
Come to Wales
And ride difficult trails
Missed out bastard lane
gotta do bastard lane if doing mid wales
And chance of the GPX you followed?
Must be nice. If I just went riding here is Georgia and opened up a gate and rove on some dudes property I would probably get shot at. Here we only have place like Highland park to ride at and OHV trails. Sucks.
amazing and fun!, here in the US if you open someone's gate to ride, they probably shoot you.
Very nice video Chris! I love that they keep popping up! :)

Its a coming home chris isnt the Oldman welsh ? Great video btw
Yep Mum and Dad, it was great to get back there.
What tire pressure would you run on a heavy adventure bike like that and on this kind of terrain Chris? Thanks
Opening scene looks like happy Valley north wales not to far from barmouth 😊 where did you start as we ride south to North Wales regular as its in our area, you missed out the tetty trail in mid Wales, you missed out the bomb hole at strata !
He was at the bomb hole at 20:30
@@ROCKETRALPH the other guy rode in it didn't he 😂
@@Rust_valley_adventures Ahh I get it now haha I thought you meant he missed it as a trail.
@@Rust_valley_adventures I am the other guy, we swapped the camera over 😉
@@ChrisBirchNZ how come you didn't take him on the tetty trail or down south wales around tintern Abbey/Newport and Caerphilly?
Nice Video and awesome skills Chris!
Why do only Ride the 890R and Not the 690R?
I Ride the same Bike like you and think about the 690 because of the weight, what do you think about this Trade?
Greetings from Germany!
What air pressure do you typically run off-road ..?
Buddy !!!!!
Who are the guides, do they do they have a TH-cam channel?
Ah yes the land of the gates! 😂
Lovely lovely gates
How many rims and front tubes were harmed in the making of this film? 😅
Honestly zero, good tyres those Mitas E13
What's the deal with all the gates? Are you getting permission to ride through other peoples properties, or is it public use trails sort of thing? It looks killer.
They are public right of ways through private property, public access ways going back hundreds of years. It’s quite incredible access.
Is that a standard ktm 890r or has it had upgrades
Only the tyres changed, mitas E12 and E13
No thanks 😂
