Props to Michele Mouton and her team for creating this wonderful event. Without this event, we would never have seen drivers from multiple racing disciplines (including F1, NASCAR, and of course WRC drivers) competing in one event in later years. Also at Ari Vatanen's "Oh dear, what I have done to deserve this?" 😂
The Canary Islands are by far the region in Spain with the highest death rate when it comes to car accidents... which is entirely understandable considering almost every road is some WRC-worthy stage and the local kid's #1 sport is driving fast
@@DanArnets1492 Didn't know that. I was aware of the dangers to tourists in hiring cars and (particularly) scooters and getting carried away. Too easily done on those sort of roads.
@@creepingjesus5106 - The roads are fine, the weather doesn't hurt them at all, but the people there LOVE to go fast on them. If you look at rallying and hillclimb events, the Canary Islands have one every other weekend almost all year long.
9:22 Francois' cheeky little grin when he sees Colin up beside him. How was Delecour selected for this considering he was never WRC champion, and off the back of an awful '95 season?
Covid has intervened, I believe, but in any case the event has long since left the Gran Canaria track and moved to stadiums. Wherever local government is willing to support it, I'd say...
@@VHSRallies i have seen a few indoor events they did look good but drivers are in buggy type cars not my favourite. But everybodys different and Michelle Mouton is still somewhat in charge👌 so with F1 drivers doing it now as wella even car/cars need to be used..
You can find lots of footage if you search the Spanish name of the event (Carrera de Campeones) and it's all gonna be from the good years (before the God-awful stadium events)

The smile on Delacour at the start of the second lap , excellent.
no problem Tony 👍👍👍👍👌👌
Thank you for the best real driving videos and nostalgia
You're welcome.
Great race's... all top drivers 👌
awesome
Clearly Ms Mouton was inspired by what everyone does with a hire car on Gran Canaria...

Who's here because of Rallye Fusion Race of Champions ?
Race of Champions 2000, 2001 please
Think these are available to buy or were at least issued on DVD, so unlikely here, I'm afraid.
@@VHSRallies aa, I see, well that's okay..keep it up the good work on those wonderful videos
