I got the CD as a gift last week and it's been playing nonstop. What a strong album. Every song is different but at the same time captures the style BTS is famous for. Thank God for for this band. We need many more to join the mix instead of trying everything possible to appear on MTV. Built to Spill managed to find a formula that involves music with heart..... very rare these days. Rock On, Grinderman
i shook hands with mr. martsch after a show in NYC and he was very gracious with me. i said the show made me a fan whereas before i didnt know the group too well.
So many other bands like Metallica, Pink Floyd, or AFI try to create interesting 8-9 min+ songs that you can stand to listen to all the way through, but for some reason they all fall short and simply beg your finger to hit the skip button. Built to Spill doesn't have this problem. They never get boring no matter how long the song. Every note they play is essential, unlike other bands who just throw in notes to fill an album. A band has to earn the right to play 8-9 minute songs, BTS demands it.
In September, I sat on the stage at Toads in New Haven, CT, 5 feet from Brett Netson. They played this as their encore and Doug said it was no alien, "just our God." I think this is about how our intellect clogs our heart -- no dog, antelope, or anteater dreams up shit like "aliens" (or sub-prime mortgages.) Go against your mind-full-ness, and FEEL the life force; call it God or something else, but let your heart direct traffic. Yes, BTS is the best band in America. (I am 57 years young.)
ahhhh, i wish they would have played this, when i saw them in Minnesota on June 6th....they still played a massive amount of amazing songs...well shit, i guess all their songs are amazing...i've got the whole set from Minneapolis, on my page, just click my name....
@30Doradus well first, he isn't afraid. he has to deal with three guitar players that want the attention. I know the bass player. he just happy to be in the band.
no joke! I saw them twice last tour and both times the rail and like 4 security guards were between BTS and I. If I went to a show where I was leaning on stage Id just say "Fuck it" and kiss Doug in a totally straight way
"Maybe the best band now with Arcade Fire"... non bestemmiamo per favore, i Built To Spill sono 15.000 volte meglio (better than) Arcade Fire.. o "Cacate Fire" (as we say in Italy).

Me too. Makes having to take a bus not so bad.
fuggin beautiful
going to seem em tommorow again god damn i hope they will play this and hopefully carry the zero again...
it's an echo effect. i'm not sure the exact type, but it's one of the older large tape-style models.
"Things fall Apart" from "There is no enemy"
@30Doradus It's the camera angle. If you were down in the crowd he wouldn't appear to be behind it.
Mike Scheer does the illustrations; same guy who did stuff for Doug back in the Treepeople days.

Haha I love how the guy's hiding behind the screen. I think it's the bassist?
You Rock
@geridg it's an echoplex
Man, he makes that guitar his bitch!
Looks like his echoplex was giving him some trouble at the beginning there. those things are cool, but such pains in the ass.
hasnt anyone uploaded the flipping album version by now?
Not many songs stays interesting for 8 min. This does :)

new album is great too.
probably not as good as you in reverse.
but you in reverse is stupid good.
crowd looks so dead...for how awesome that song was
you know... it may sound crazy, but the impossibility of the idea aside I would love to marry this song and make babies with it.

Love this song but they have got to be the most boring band i've seen live. shame.
