Surf Fishing at Dauphin Island - Easy Saltwater Beach Fishing

  • Saltwater Surf fishing at Dauphin Island Beach can be fun and easy. I was able to catch whiting, a silver perch, a small shark, and catfish. I started fishing with shrimp in the morning at high tide and caught a few catfish, and the silver perch. Then in the evening, as the tide was going out, I used shrimp and cut whiting and ended up with a small shark. Included is the footage of a redfish I caught at the cabin! Surf fishing can be easy if you keep it simple and fish with local bait, and Dauphin Island Beach is a great saltwater beach!

    I remember as a kid catching tons of whiting on the beach with my cousins. My grandmother and I were cleaning fish till midnight. We used to go crabbing off the piers too. Awesome summer fun.

    Spent a lot of time down there in high school during the 90s drinking beer, gigging flounder, crabbing, and fishing both sides of the island..... caught ALL kinds of fish in the lagoon. It was a super laid back community back then, doesn't look like much has changed, accept for the hurricane damage.

    Antibiotic ointment will take the pain out of getting stuck by one of those catfish. Got hit by a hard head in the thumb as I went to grab it. Thumb was throbbing and just kept getting worse so stuck some ointment on it and 5 minutes later total relief

      Omg I always wanted to go saltwater fishing but I didn’t have any fancy gear to go so I just stuck with freshwater. You just introduced me to a whole new world of fishing! How do you use freshwater gear for saltwater? Doesn’t it get ruined? Isn’t it too light? Don’t you have to use heavy heavy line?

    • @RealisticFishing
      @RealisticFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use the same line I would for bass fishing. 12lb test mono. So far my reel is holding up but I have only used it maybe 10 times in saltwater. Its a $15 reel anyway 👍

    • @jettercool
      @jettercool 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As long as you rinse your gear with fresh water after the fishing section your gear is gonna be fine. You don`t need fancy equipment for salt water fishing or heavy line. 20lb test braid is good for anything inshore or 15lb mono if you don`t want to spend extra money. The good thing about braid is that is gonna cast farther and that is always good when you are surf fishing

    @dahutful 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Whiting: This fish is sometimes called a ‘ground mullet,’ channel mullet or black mullet, and its actual name is the ‘Southern Kingfish.’
    Since it rarely exceeds 2 pounds, that name is misleading. Still, all along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts, it is more often called a whiting. The whiting is virtually always caught on the bottom....”
    Good times.

      Yeah i just want to make sure that ur a better fisherman at the beach becuase those fish late in the day out to the deeper water and ur gonna need to cast out further with a longer rod ranging from 8 to 13 ft or longer im just saying i was ounce like you when surf fishing . plus another problem is that ur reels dont have as much line capacity like u would at least 200 yards of line while surf fishing so u dont get as spooled when making a cast and leaving it in the rod holder . im sorry man i mean i like ur videos though . i just wanted to give u some tips because u said before that u were looming for surf fishing tips on youtube

    • @SIrAtlex

      When I go saltwater fishing you should use really heavy rods two small rods one medium action and one heavy action bring rod holders if you can and wear boots to go in the water to at least 2 feet so you can get more distance on your cast buy squid trust me

    Very nice video man! My grandparents on my mothers side are all from that area. Beautiful down there. Can you use those silver perch for bait I wonder?? I didn’t realize catfish were saltwater fish as well. Lol

    hardhead catfish are good for chum when offshore but when at the beach I just let them free. Great shark and redfish. It's fun watching you explore the salt water fishing.

    Fished off that pier in March of 2000 and sheepshead was biting so hard it scared me. Think it was Ivan that moved all that sand

    You might know this but in case you don`t, you can get from a local Wal Mart a Gulf Rig for about 1.49 each. is like a dropped shot rig with one or two hook option. You add the hooks and the weight. I love baitcasters but personally prefer the spinning set up for surf fishing. Great video sir. Welcome to the Gulf of Mexico

    The ocean waves are pretty calming and catching tons of fish tops it off!! That area looks very nice and the cabin by the water is awesome!! Great job!!

      Realistic Fishing i try early afternoon and night but for some reason the fish wont bite or when they do hit it they dont eat it good enough to set the hook

      apexpredator topwater is really off this year it seems. Another thing with the hits not being hard enough. Wait. Don't set that hook immediately. Sometimes the fish is trying to kill or stun your lure. So don't move it if they hit it weird. They will hopefully come back for it again.

    Very cool, I need to get in some surf fishing. I have been deep sea and off shore fishing on charter boats. Would love to catch some salt water fish on my own so to speak. Nice redfish at the end.

    Great Video Alex. Looks like a good time. That redfish from the dock was cool too. Never tried the surf fish thing. If I thought I would have that much success... I would try it. Enjoyed it as usual. Fish on and Keepin it Realistic.
